      @@RicMason well no. They are all headphone practice amps. So they all definitely fit into the same category. The Mooer differences are then a question of whether that is a pro/con for you. But they are basically all filling the exact same niche.

      @@zoeherriot Your correct, I personally prefer everything wireless. Love wireless Katana Air Headphones but their bulky and 300.00 more. Would like a unit with dual BT to send and receive so I can use my own wireless phones but not sure if Android or iOS can do that yet without conflict. So many options, a great time for gear. Have fun whichever you choose.

    Hi Leo, thank you for a very detailed and honest comparison, as always. The only aspect that i feel was left out, was the quality and power of the headphone amplifier itself. I've been using the Mustang Micro for more than a year now, purely for practicing. I like it very much, but I feel that the on board amplifier is a little bit weak for my favourite Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 Ohm headphones. Did you have a chance to test both devices with some decent quality headphones? If yes, does the NUX offer an improvement in the ability yo drive the headphones? I am tempted to give the Mighty Plug a try. Keep up the good work, cheers!

    I think these are both great devices but i have the mustang micro and it suits my purposes perfectly, I have a proper pc setup using neural dsp plugins and an audio interface for my recordings, but that isn't what the mustang is designed for. When i just want to play guitar with great sounds and go anywhere in the house to practice, the mustang does a great job, load a backing track from youtube and play it right into you're headphones with bluetooth and you have an awesome practice tool that sounds great. I have both. Both are really awesome! It's highly recommended than getting one expensive full amplifier if you are using it for practices anyway. You can do a lot with the NUX MPP since it really is a multi-fx (I got the separate chocolate for the footswitch) compared to mustang micro which is an amp due to its heritage. If you are into authentic fender amp sounds no question on what to get, but in saying this the NUX has its own sound that I would say is great in its own way. I love the Friedman (Fireman) sound in NUX. I love the 57 Twin and both 65s of the Mustang. I use these 2 for different guitars due to the tone. I use the MPP with my Silversky while the Mustang or MPP with my Fender Strat.

    I have the Mustang Micro currently and like it but I am wanting to do more stuff with recording and am thinking about switching to the Mighty Plug Pro for some of its improved recording features. I have a few questions for anyone who has a Mighty Plug Pro:
    -Would you consider it relatively plug and play once you get some presets you like set, so that you don't always need to connect the app? The way I see it, both have volume and amp/preset changes, and then the only extra on-unit controls the Mustang has is EQ (which I can get similar changes with my tone knobs) and some limited effects changes. So you pretty much lose changing some effects on the fly from the device (and I'm not a huge effects user anyway) for much deeper editing when you do have the app connected.
    -I also wonder how well it could replace a cheap multi-effects pedal for someone who isn't a huge effects user like myself. Obviously I'd lose expression pedal usage. Is the recording quality of the Mighty Plug Pro similar to a cheap multi-effects unit (like the MG300 or my current Digitech RP255)? Also if I turned off the amp and cab sim, could I run the headphone out into an amp input to use delays and reverbs like I would with a multi-effects pedal? And lastly, while I don't currently play anywhere, if I ever did would it be possible to run the USB-C or headphone out on the Mighty Plug Pro to a PA system in place of an XLR cable? If I wanted to connect it at the end of my main overdrive pedal for example and go direct like I might with a regular multi-effects pedal.

    The thing is, the beauty of those units is their intrinsic plug and play capability. Most of the time you just want to use them to practice without disturbing or on holidays, you don't really want to build a signal chain or got lost into an external app. But this doesn't mean that Fender should not upload its device, moreover the guitar lesson applicability and robustness of the Nux is beautiful!

    @michaelchester3439 Місяць тому +1

    I have used both for several months, and the summary here is very accurate. The one thing that I would say is that the Mustang can be better than the Mighty for those just starting out. The combinations are well thought out. This helps beginners minimise the time spent working out how to get a decent sound.
    Nux is way better if you know what you are doing or want dry sound and processing options. One annoying thing is that the Nux can sometimes create an annoying signal that affects surrounding electronics. However, that might be my setup, too. But for me, the Nux is my choice for playing around. I struggle to see a place for these devices with advanced musicians, as you normally have better equipment available. For this demographic, they fit more in the on-the-road use case where you don't have your full kit or want to work on something in private.
    All in all, these are great, cheap little devices everyone should have, especially if a teenager needs to shred endlessly while the mother is trying to concentrate. Great peacemaker.
    Thanks Leo.

    Hi Leo, thanks for the precise review! I've always wondered how the difference in bit depth (16 bit for Fender and 24 bit for Nux) affects the sound quality and in this case the two devices you reviewed have exactly this difference. What do you think about this since you tried the two "real" units? In the video the sounds of the Fender Mustang do not seem to have a lower quality, in fact in some cases it even seems better than the NUX. I know that the overall sound quality of a device does not just depend on a single parameter but this difference in bit resolution (16/24) has always intrigued me on how it can be reflected in the perception of real sound. Thanks in advance and congratulations for your always punctual and professional reviews!

    • @LeoGibsonGtr
      @LeoGibsonGtr  9 місяців тому +2

      Hi, thank you so much, I'm really happy that you appreciate the reviews!
      It's really a difficult topic to discuss and indeed interesting...I would not only take into consideration the resulting amp tone...that with all the processing done could mask 16 and 24 bit...I would take into consideration:
      1) I use this unit just to record the pure guitar, to reamp it later.
      2) the dynamic range management
      24 bit should provide with more levels / more "shades" of dynamic range and fidelity to your initial touch...therefore both affecting the point 1 and 2 aformentioned...
      I don't have numbers or precise fact to confirm that...but this is what in my opinion we should take into consideration

    One of the better sound comparison videos because you clearly took the time to tweek the NUX to emulate the micro patch sounds you were comparing them against rather than just compare stock sounds that sound nothing alike as ive seen other videos do. Although I thought the micro sounded slightly sweeter, it wasnt enough difference to pass up all the other features of the NUX, so its gonna be the NUX for me hands down. Thanks!

    I just bought a NUX after breaking my Mustang Micro (which I loved. I thought I was going to cry). I loved that the micro was dead simple and you could just plug it in and go. But having spent a few weeks with the NUX, I’m kinda blown away with it. I can set up my presets and use it the same way as the micro (just plug it in and go), but the difference is that the tones are just like I want them. IMO, the sound is a little better, too. Recording a dry signal is a huge plus, too.
    PS: The broken micro wasn’t fender’s fault. I am beyond clumsy in ways you could not imagine.

    At this point i don't see and reasons to get Mustang Micro, besides more accurate classical Fender amps representation. It would be interesting to see comparison between Mighty Plug Pro and BOSS Pocket GT, they seem to have kinda similar features and capabilities, but GT has less comfortable formfactor. The Mooer thing is also interesting, but the full-mono signal is a huge downsider for me.

    I am very, very delighted with the Fender mustang micro. It's simple, it's plugging in, touching 3 buttons and enjoying without using a phone and with more than correct sounds and latency.
    I see that Nux offers better features and possibilities, but that also means that you need a phone and perhaps that makes it a little less practical.
    Fender mustang micro sounds great when clean, although it is true that with gain the quality of the tones loses a bit. I bought the mustang because I wanted something simple and that would force me to play and work on my technique instead of thinking that maybe I have to adjust this parameter or that one to sound good. The truth is that they are great products, I do not rule out selling my Fender mustang to acquire the nux. Although the truth is that I am super happy with my fender mustang micro because of how practical it is since it has so few customizable elements.

Plus how less practical is it not to have a phone today. True?Lol. 😂 You sound old like me but I'd rather have a phone and a remote rather than a dial and a TV guide, or in this case little colored buttons and a business card guide. Ciao Leo, the Fender it's a glorified version of the Vox AmPlug 2. The real competitor of the Nux is the Mooer Prime 1. I think the Mooer could be the winner as for 50 Euro you can buy the blutooth pedalboard which allows to change presets and control the built in looper and tuner. return my fender musting micro and got a nux mighty pro - while a lot of fender sounds are strong - I found for me the high gain lead tones were treble-y and metallic. And I hated the no preset bunch of colors thing - where when I found something good I would have to tap 9 times to the right amp and 3 times to the right efx everytime!! just to get which is now just a first preset on the NUX so it is there on startup. Also that I could use my same headset that I use on my computer was great (TRRS with the NUX). and for me having actual gain to play with and general tweaking is great.

      Fender (as usual) has no idea about what a good gain tone should sound like. Of course this is all subjective and depends on your tastes, but for me it's the NU-X....both in term of bang for buck and sound quality/tone. Any modeller can do a really nice, sparkly, clean tone, but when it comes to hi-gain amp modelling, it separates the men from the boys so to speak. I like an app as it's physically easier to manipulate (for sausage-fingered me). We all have our preferences.

    It is clear that the NuX is more versatile, but I'd like to mention for whom the Mustang Micro might be better. 1. Folks who don't want to do a lot of tweaking (just pick it up and start playing). 2. People who are new to effects and maybe don't know how to dial something in that sounds good. (Unlike most devices, the presets are really good). 3. People who don't want to depend on another device or app. (To be fair, I hate trying to remember the colors of the lights). And 4. Fender people. (As you would expect). In particular, I find the clean sounds to be more "amp-like".

    I have both, out of the box the mustang micro sounds hands and feet above the nux.
    I got the nux a couple months before the mustang micro. I have gotten some decent tones out of the nux but some amp/ir combinations do not work, just buzzing noises. The current firmware has a high pitched noise that I find annoying, hope it is fixed some day. As well there is low end distortion when playing amps clean even at low volumes, I have dialed back the guitar volume as well with no change. It's fun when you get a decent sound but far from perfect.

    I've had a Mustang Micro for quite a while and I use it exclusively (rehearsal and gigs). Driving a QSC CP8 (on the floor, in monitor position, and monitor backside EQ) I was able to duplicate my Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb in a side by side set up (both set to flat EQ). I sold the Tonemaster. The Mustang's only defect is a greater than zero noise floor and a noise gate function you can hear if you listen carefully. Feature wise the Nux MPP blows it away, but in that A-B Deluxe Reverb portion of the video the Nux is not very good in comparison. So no Nux for me.
    BTW, well executed 16-bit audio is all us humans can really appreciate. 96 dB of SNR takes you from a quiet room to full on pain. Same for DVD vs CD sample rates. Some of this specsmanship is truly unimportant. But I do suspect the Mustang's intermediate digital signal processing is lower resolution (a bit noisy) to get away with less DSP horsepower and increase battery life.

      @martinopinto6323 Рік тому

      The SNR is the signal to noise ratio. I think you're talking about the dynamic range, wich is the amount of headroom that the device has, which is not specified by fender for the mustang

      @jonfields Рік тому

      @@martinopinto6323 My point is DVD Audio (48K @ 24b) and CD Audio (44.1K @ 16b) are both good enough if implemented well. The video implies that more (DVD) is better and that simply isn't true for human hearing. The Mustang still leaves something to be desired in its implementation because I can hear hiss that switches on as I play. That is not because it is 16b or 44.1K. It is because they traded off the DSP power needed to avoid it with quality of the modeling, product cost, and battery life. Specsmanship often tells you nothing about the total quality of the implementation. For me the Mustang is the winner, even with that hiss, because I don't need the extra features and like the tone.

      More is better for recording and digital mastering as it results in less quantisation noise. It’s not about the bit-depth of the finished audio masters, you’re confused.

    The Fender needs a gain control in my opinion

  • @SteveDiPaola
    @SteveDiPaola Рік тому

    One thing I was disappointed with just getting the Micro - as high gain lead solo guitarist - I thought the neck pu/ low tone knob kind of Clapton women tone ( or creamy Santana/Satriani) was unachievable - I felt all the high gains had a metallic/treble/compressed feel (and attack). Did you notice that - is it better on the mighty pro. Or is the setting on the Micro I can try to judge what might be the best of a creamy high gain for soloing.

      On paper the pro has been improved in terms of sound quality.

    I had a bad experience with a Nux before, but even so I'm impressed. If they put some kind of midi on it (midi via bluetooth e.g.), o it would be a gigantic bang for buck relation (it already is, but would be even better).

    Seen a couple of comparisons and the Fender falls short on so many levels it's not funny. Kind of like their amps, and a well known guitar that could have been improved decades ago.

    It's amazing you have such a great ear for music and are able to pick out such subtle nuances in guitar phrasing yet your English, is absolutely horrible. It makes your video unlistenable when you're talking. My advice is do less speaking until you're able to not sound like a 45 year old Russian man first visiting america who managed to fill his mouth full of marshmallows before hitting his head and swelling his mouth and face right after he went to the dentist. Stick with your beautiful playing and lose the commentary, bro. That said, you're a virtuoso on the strings.
