- Hey everyone!
This week we take our Next Gen Ford Ranger and Roadstar caravan to Bowen, QLD. This place is the mango capital of australia, we explore the area and we are a staying at the Horseshoe bay resort. Chelsea takes us out looking for some mangoes, and we visit the BIG mango. We try our luck with some fishing as always Chelsea ends up catching something! Right next to the caravan park is Grays bay a perfect spot for a swim and cool off. Next stop is Groper creek for a overnighter and some more fishing where Bryce actually catches something! As we continue north to townsville we stop in at Home Hill and check out a couple of points of interest.

Being Townsville local, we live just out of town on a large block, pool, out side bar etc.

I camped there 2016. A lady in a van with her husband was a little too friendly. Husband wore little loin cloth in leopard print (odd right?)

@@CaravanAdventureAus my husband and I were doing our first trip up north in our camper trailer. The caravan park was empty except for them. I found her odd she was too weirdly friendly, like she was out looking for people. Creepy!!

Yes I've swam at Horseshoe Bay may times before. Guessing there are no large rivers near Bowen, only the Don River which is more of a creek so less croc risk. Airlie Beach is near the Proserpine River which has the most crocs on the east coast. Merry Christmas 🎅

I've been swimming there for 54yrs. Too many crocs around now and big sharks too.

@@CaravanAdventureAus yes when I saw your clip of you at horseshoe Bay I recall my friend on a kayak waving madly at me on sand, a huge shark was trying to tip him off the kayak. He was terrified. That was 1983. I grew up loving the water. But sense to be very careful now esp QLD.

Cairns is good now, all but the three beachside suburbs that copped a beating. You won't be able to get up to Port Douglas via the coast road for another few weeks, but beyond Cairns you can go up the Kuranda Range. Hope to see you here in gorgeous Cairns (33C and sunny skies today).
Yes we love Cairns! We will be there for the whole of January + flying from there to Bali 👍🏽

Swam there many times. Never seen a croc. Locals swim there. The restaurant at the resort is pretty good. You should go down to the harbour and get some prawns and fish and chips. Really good.

those mats sound great - but try folding them up - with wet sand on them. overnight rain you've got to be on the road early and you've got 4 cubic metres of heavy wet mesh to pack...it wont dry out in time to get on the road. you cant broom wet sand off. they are great for long stay. but if you're packing up and down big no for packing up issues.

Tip, you fishing with single bait. But there could be no other food. So, barley up. Chicken pellets or cat food minced up dinner scraps. It drifts out further out saying food here

Salt water crocodiles very rarely venture out to sea as they prefer muddy water for hunting. Crocodiles are also territorial animals that will generally never venture more than a few kilometres from their home. I am no croc expert but it seems by doing some research the main breeding site for crocs is north at the Burdekin river, it doesn't mean they are not at Bowen, just very rare to see them there. There was a freshwater crocodile captured at Bowen showgrounds in May 2022, but they are not an aggressive species of crocodile.

I’ve seen a few in the ocean. Will always check for a while before I go for a swim in those croc possible areas
Come on you guy's, no self-respecting croc will swim there and didn't need to worry about Great Keppel we swim there all the time, seems the further south you originate from the more you worry. Now Grover Creek is a different story,we were there July and August, 1 Klm downstream past the corner a big croc suns himself on the mud, remember you don't need to be able to run fast away from a croc, just faster than the person with you. its great to see you found Groper Creek. Our little bit of paradise.... So good we bought a home here...The managers of the park, Wendy and Jeanette would of looked after you..... I have seen 1meter long barra caught from your camp site.... You never known your luck, if we were putting our tinny in, we would of taken you for a run... just ask the ladies they would of found a local to take you out...
