I use good stuff and it seems to have quite a bit more fine dust like tobacco. So much so I have to sift it through a colander to get rid of it. So quite a bit of a pound is lost. Yours doesn’t look to have that problem. Have you sifted it or is the criss cross just better quality?
Did you buy the HK 3 by any chance? I'm just curious because I'm looking at buying either the hawkmatic HK 3 or the PM 3. How is the machine working out?
Kent, A couple of things come to mind, with the hopper empty and looking into the bottom there will be three of the pushers associated with the compaction, when I clean my machine I use a screwdriver and flick those up and down to ensure that there's nothing underneath them, while holding the machine forward as I'm looking into the hopper. Make sure there's nothing underneath those. Next while looking inside the hopper you'll see a bar that runs left to right lift up on that bar and make sure there's no tobacco behind that angled black piece of plastic that comes up when you raise up on that black bar. Other than that the only other thing I can think of would be a faulty sensitivity device inside the machine that is causing this continuous Hopper trigger. That is about all I can think of that could be causing your problem.
I use OHM tobacco, and Hot Rod tubes. Them Zen tubes were a pita for me, and I ended up tossing quite a few out of the 250 count. They seemed to be flimsy, or thinner than the other tubes I tried. OHM tobacco is the cleanest I've found in my area. Might be two stems in a 1 pound bag. Figuring out what tube/tobacco combo I liked was a trial and error thing, but once I got er done, it been smooth sailing so far. My price point is right inline with yours.
I have not seen Hot Rod tubes but will give them a try. I have been compiling video footage for a range of tobacco brands....the amounts of stems and powder in each. The real hands on research is proving you to be right about Ohm!
Nice video I learned this was the machine for me. Question I have, I touch the screen and get lines around the screen I let up and it goes away, is the normal?
Okay now let's go back and what will be the fix for the way the tobacco is being cut now. It's hard to get a tight pack now. I picked up a bag last week opened it up and it is cut very fine I called the company and they said that the government made them change it the way it's being cut, now I started to wonder are they going to make it be a cigarette tax?
The gov has nothing to do with the width of their shredder blades, the widths are set by the are set by the mfg. The tobacco leafs are shredded at a range of moisture content, and this has an effect on how well the cigs will pack. I roll 100's, and then will put them, tobacco end up, and pound the container on the counter to pack 'em to my liking.
I called the manufacturer and that's what they told me, they said they faught it for a long time, plus said they have had a lot of calls, only solution we came up with was for me to find old stock until it's gone. It's OHM brand.
i juat bought the hawkmatic.. thing paid for itself in the first week. In ma a pack of newport 100s are 13$. If anyone is on the fence...do it..its worth the inital investment.

@russellm7530 it's killer got a couple hundred thousand rolls on it...I've learned longer tobacco you just need to chop it up a little ..mine is just the hk3.
What brand of tobacco do you have the most experience with? I'm looking for something, anything, that doesn't come with an outrageous amount of stems/trash. I notice the Criss Cross you're using is a bit leafy for my taste, as I prefer thin ribbon cut. However, if it's consistently good quality, I'll go for it.
Golden Harvest is the best I have found so far. I am of the belief that all of the tobacco brands have consistency issues. I think the shredder person throws some of the dry fines into the bags, or the conveyor, randomly to enhance product weight.
@@scrappypappymauldin5416 I bought a 1lb bag of GH Blue and the entire thing was all shake and stems, and I ended up throwing half of it away in disgust. I bought their Red once and was pretty satisfied, which is why I tried the Blue. Maybe my experience was a fluke.
I just bought the powermatic III off Amazon. All said and done it was $208 delivered.

The criss cross is a better quality from a stem and fine dust aspect. They are fluffing the tobacco somehow and that process eliminates the fines.

How is the machine working out?
I did not buy an HK. I did look at it, but it did not compare, in my opinion, to the PM3+. The PM3+ is a dynamo! Especially for 100mm RYO.
My Powermatic 3 constantly displays "HOPPER" even when it is full. and the cigs are almost never fully packed. Any idea why?

Never thought about a 2-blade chopper...but I am not making 18 cartons a month. That is a pretty ingenious idea!

It is normal. This is due to the cheapness of the led display.
I love this Machine!

Will do thanks for the reply.
