The Frey Life This move, that in no way includes me or has any effect on me, is stressing me out. What is going to happen to your beautiful garden? The bird family? All your stuff. It's such a huge change. I know you will handle it well. Maybe you can have pool again? You guys are amazing. Even though your scenery is changing you will still be you. Ollie will still be adorable. Bon voyage!

The Frey Life Good luck with it all you guys! I am in the same boat of moving and getting ready to switch CF centers and when you said that it’s overwhelming it brought the tears! Gosh it really is overwhelming and then there is insurance and all the fun stuff... Going from Washington to Idaho. But from everything you guys have experienced and learned so far, Duke sounds like the right choice for transplant. Don’t be surprised if I move there in the future too. 😆 but seriously God bless you guys in your journey and transitions.

I'm glad she's switching hospitals after the clowns are her current one wrecked her kidneys with their recklessness in administering IV Colistin for the first time at full dose and without supervision and ruining that very important antibiotic for her.

My best friend's husband went through CF lung transplant, and they were 7 hours away from their home base. Thinking about how lonely she was, how hard it was to process things and not have support physically there... I think yall are absolutely correct in your future move. Having a support system for the "if/when" is so important.
    I'm praying for you guys

Hi Karen, do you live in NC? I was telling Mary last month that I too needed to move further south due to my illnesses and was looking there and Florida....we have to laugh now becuase I was told to look in the Medical Triad area, which im guessing is around Raleigh/Durham near Duke? The difference is, I'm an older lady, alone, and probably cant afford the same area they can. Any suggestions for me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Duke is the reason I am alive, not because of healthcare but rather my dad moved from California to go to Duke Medical to earn a bachelors degree and while there he met my mom who was born and raised in Durham. Were it not for Duke having such an amazing School of medicine even back in the 70s I would have never been born. Over the years their medical program has only gotten better!!! You are in great hands and The Lord has you right were you need to be!

What an exciting and nerve racking decision! I lived in NC for almost 10 years and loved it. The forests, mountains, and beaches are to die for and the Raleigh area is gorgeous. I’ve been to appointments at Duke and they are very knowledgeable and realistic about patient care. Praying for you guys in the next months as you make this transition. I can’t wait to follow along on the journey.

You are doing the right thing being so proactive. I just can't imagine anything more challenging than what you're facing. I was A respiratory therapist for 20 yrs. I've treated CF'ers. Its been a couple of decades since I practiced and treatment has come a long way. I'm also a retired pastor and know the challenges of finding a pastoring a new church. I pray that God gives both of you all you need in this challenging life.

Mary, I've been following you guys since before Scotland,
God is leading you, where you need to be, now! Step by step, everything will fall into place! And who knows? The medication COULD help! But if not, you'll be the place where a transplant can take place, if needed. And they have your history down there now. You are always on my prayer list, and will continue to be so. God is good! My niece lives down there.....she loves it!

I have lived here near Duke, UNC for over 40 years. Best place to live is in Hillsborough, easy drive to Duke maybe 12-15 min, small town feel, very dog friendly, so many places to go on walks, lots of nice small town activities, restaurants, safe. Chapel Hill too expensive, Durham does not have a small town community feeling.

I've been watching you guys for a while now. I am so happy that you are on this journey. I am so grateful that you guys video tape it. I understand your excitement about the new drug. I don't have CF but I have kidney disease and have kidney stones every month. As my kidneys were going down hill there was a drug for me to try. It didn't help with the pain but it helped me stay off the transplant list.its funny cuz when I started watching you guys I got a service dog (golden doodle) name Ollie. Watching you guys have helped me not be scared of the process. It's just so amazing that you guys are spreading love and awareness. Thank you so much

I was born in NC and lived there until just after my 11th birthday. I was near Charlotte though, not Durham. But NC in general is an amazing place! And southern people are SO nice and friendly (or at least they were when I lived there). I've said it before and I'll say it a million times more. This whole process has happened the way it has FOR A REASON. I agree that God has been orchestrating this whole thing from the very beginning.

Moving now rather than later makes perfect sense to me. Doing the temporary living situation is not the best way because, as you said, you will need a support system. I’ll be one of the thousands praying for the right house, church, and everything else. My advice, after just making a major move to another state myself, is to start packing and purging stuff now. I procrastinated and paid the price with stress and exhaustion. I love you and, as always, will keep you in my prayers. 🥰

Mary, you hit the nail on the head. Surgery is 50% physical but 50% is mental preparation and acceptance. I had been wondering about whether you needed to move be nearer to Duke. After living and working around our country over the years, provided you are together, that is what matters the most. My doctors decided they don't need to do a Manomety and my surgery goes ahead on Monday. If was delayed from tomorrow. You guys are going to be fine. Hopefully you will still be able to pursue your boating pleasures. With the weather prediction of deterioration, the milder the climate you live in, the better off you will be. Especially with your lungs Mary. You guys have got this. At least there isn't a great urgency to your move.

My stepdad lived in Durham for 18 months for a job and it is a great area! I moved to SC a few months ago and it has been one of the best team of doctors I have had and also the sense of community. It is so smart to move now while you are well enough and not when it is urgent because regardless you will have to move especially post-transplant when you have to be close for 3 months or so.

A lot gets accomplished with these larger hospitals in finding new ways to deal with things just like the new med. Got you all in my prayer book to keep praying for. We are headed back to GA just as soon as we sell this house. The docs told me to get off these mountains out here in CO and my other son is back there so that will be good.

I am on the east coast of North Carolina. :) It is indeed hot here! You will get more snow than I get though, as the coast doesn’t see much. Prayers that your transition is smooth and you find the community you are seeking! God is good. Much love to you, Mary, Peter and Ollie-boy!

I think you are making a great choice moving before the transplant is immediately needed. Prayers for a easy transition both physically for you Mary, and professionally for you Peter. NC is a beautiful area, and Duke is a great facility.🙏❤️

NC is wonderful! Wilmington, NC has a very special place in my heart. If you get a chance I highly recommend taking a trip over there from Duke/wherever you end up when that time comes. Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers.

I’ve heard nothing but awesome things about Duke. And NC is pretty darn nice too (I live in East TN so we get there often). Let the journey to healing begin. Ollie better keep those water wings and tail in shape because there will be lots more boating months in NC!!

I’m excited you’re moving to NC Mary and Peter but not excited about the reason. I’m glad you’re taking precautions and planning ahead for the future with CF and your health. That shows God’s love and care and you both being responsible for your lives. I heart ❤️ you both and know that God will continue caring for you daily. 💕❤️

I think this is going to be a great change for both of you. Having such a big CF team at several different places in close proximity sounds like the best option for your continued health. :) Hopefully transplant is a long time away for you. I think this is perfect timing. Starting over with a new team will be overwhelming but as long as you communicate effectively with them I'm sure it will get more comfortable.

I'm one of your biggest fans, and I live in Greensboro. Things I love about North Carolina over living in the northeast (originally from Ohio) -- Winter is milder, but you still get a little snow once in a while. Things that I don't like so much -- I have seasonal allergies. Pretty much three seasons of the year, there is something that makes my sinuses go crazy. I do pretty well if I remember to take an allergra every night before bed (don't know how you can keep all those meds straight). Everything else is lovely.
