I was in the crossing and they didn’t have the boots. Did you order them or they bringing them in now? I’ve had mine 40 years as well. Bought them when I was 18.

I’ve hunted whitetail deer for decades in Nova Scotia as well. I’m never discouraged from seeing does, and especially does with fawns feeding on my bait apples. I use them as a gauge to see how invisible I am to their keen senses. The fawns are usually oblivious (like most children are) however the moms are a different story. If she looks in my direction staring at me, I know that I’m too visible or detectable. I also look at it like why the bars have ladies’ night…it’s not to bring in the girls, but to bring in the boys. Lots of does, especially mature does is the best buck bait there is. My work schedule means that I can’t be in my stand every day so I have to strategically plan my time. If I know I’ll be away for a few days, I put out lots of apples to get them used to abundance, but that disappears quickly while I’m gone. When I return, I put out a few kilograms, climb my stand and wait. It usually doesn’t take them long to figure out that the grocery store is now open for business again.

Sounds like you and I are on the same page. That’s my situation and setup to a tee.

What would u recommend if u can only visit your spot once a week and the deer are mostly feeding at night?

Anyone with the answer would be a millionaire LOL. However, there are things you can do to help. It can be complex. Personally where I live we can bait with apples so its really a matter of being there as much as you can. Personally deer are more likely to pop out to bait during the day if its placed near cover like on the edge of a field rather then in the middle of a field. They will feel safer in good cover. There's a lot of factors like pressure from other hunters and coyotes etc along with how far away from bedding areas you are and so much more. Personally early in the season when we have more day light I see more deer during the daylight hours.

You ever seen a doe with 3 small calfs, 50-60 lbs, and a large doe calf with her? Roughly her size or touch smaller? I have seen them several times this summer where I hike. I know the larger calf wasnt with them by fluke. I never this before

    Hi Frank,
I look forward to watching your videos every year. Its great to see some local hunting videos. Maybe next year I will post up some of my own.
This year was my first year to get a big buck. I had several coming to my stand this year which is unusual. Normally I only see does. This year, not one doe. All bucks. I took a 9 point piebald buck I nicknamed Cow.
    Keep up the great work.
    Todd

Hey Todd, thats an awesome buck. I had a ton of does coming in this year and had a monster buck show twice at 3:00AM just to taunt me. I'm glad you are enjoying your videos. Thanks

Great video, no nonsense or BS.
I see you have Bean boots, I have had mine for about 4 years and love them. How far are you sitting from your apples.
    Keep up the great work.
    Regards

I’m 56 and I bought these boots when I was 18. I have sent them back two or three times to have new bottoms sewn on. I waterproof the leather and it’s extremely soft it’s so old. Lol. I need new bottoms again now but will likely buy new ones. They are the best boot in the world as far as I’m concerned.
This video the apples are only 30 yards... bow length. I will move them back to the end which is 70 yards now that the general gun season is open.

@@FrankZinck I purchased the gortex somewhat insulated boots, not much thinsulate but nothing a good pair of Sox can’t fix. I also waterproof mine before every season. Good luck

another great one, Frank. Just got back from CB and like your Dad said ,better to see deer you can not shot. I never seen one deer while hunting. Are those apples hanging in the tree in baskets, and are you using clays as distantant markers?

    • @FrankZinck
      @FrankZinck  4 роки тому

That’s a real drag traveling to CB and not even seeing a deer. Ya the baskets keep the scent of apples around after the apples have been eaten. Keeps the squirrels and porcupines from eating them. This is my dads invention. Lol. Yes I have a couple of salt licks out at certain distances. I am glad you enjoyed the video.
