Humility is a blessing. Thank you for sharing the wisdom and glory within your hunts. Your "character" shines through. And as a new hunter, I value all the effort and detail you impart.
The charm of hunting is that you don’t always can take a shot and hunt a deer. We have all failed sometimes.Thank you for sharing your experience, always so fun to watch your movies. Greetings from Eva in Sweden.
Thank you Keith for your honesty what happened on that shot. Many people can learn from that experience you had. In order to feel the highs of hunting you have to experience the lows also. That's what makes the highs so great along the way. Great show and thanks again for keeping it real and honest.
@billcarter we watched frame by frame on high end editing machines with large high-res screens. You can see the bullet travel through the air. It was a clean miss
Even worse is hitting that glorious buck and not recovering him. I've done both, and all you can do is exactly what you said- keep hunting and moving forward. Just being in that setting is a blessing in itself-beautiful wilderness.
Gorgeous footage captured and the filming edition of the camera work looks spectacularly gorgeous .. appreciate your efforts and hard work for sharing another beautiful adventure .. thanks again from Montreal QC .
I feel your pain Brother, I once rested my hand over my scope and took a shot at a 150 plus inch 8 point and made the same mistake, I never seen him again, live and learn, Thanks so much for sharing your hunt , I enjoy the video .
I always use my scope to secure my rifle when shooting.... competitive shooting. Thats not the problem because its seated into the stock itself. Anything behind the barrel itself wont change your shooting accuracy .......other then the shooter ! Its only the " barrel " that changes things !
I noticed you did that with your gun before you explained it .But a clean miss is better than a wounded buck. What caliber of sako are you using ? Is it a 85 or 75 ? I have a 85 finlight
@@canadaintheroughtv very good . Nice caliber. Oh there beautiful. As soon as you pick them up it’s like wow this feels good. The soft touch coating and balance are perfect. Thanks for all you videos . Enjoying them here in New Brunswick.
Well Keith , the last year buck , I watched the video 17 times and pretty sure you hit it high and back . Watched the second one and you said here comes a cyote ... it was a fox ! Maybe you should go hunting on Sampson mountain in the fence !??
We thought he hit the buck as well but when we put the footage into the edit suite and went frame by frame it became clear that he missed up near his neck/ear. The sheds were found that winter and the buck was killed the next hunting season. The reason he missed so badly is due to resting the barrel, not the stock, on the window ledge. Barrels are designed to be free floating and resting on the barrel messes up the harmonics changing the point of impact of the bullet.
Seems more like shooting fish in a barrel than hunting, just my opinion, paying to sit in a box where all the work is done for you doesn’t seem like hunting
Please explain...if I were in the same situation, I would have done the same. Only thing different is that I would be wearing an orange safety vest and have my head lamp on for safety. The hunter was making every effort to help recover the deer. J-walking is also against the regulations. Most of us have done that! To me its a non-issue.
Are you sure the second big deer a year later wasn’t the same deer? Had the same frame but maybe he was declining. Man they sure looked similar. And yes as soon as I watched you put the barrel on the wood I was saying, “I hope you’re not going to shoot like that”!
I thought for sure it was gut shot after watching it several times but when deer turns ther is no exit wound or blood on exit side. Don't know your gun but I'm sure the bullet would have gone through the guts and have exit hole. I'll take your word it was a miss.
Come to Wabasca Desmarais Alberta. Way down north 3 hours from Edmonton Alberta. Straight bush bucks tons of huge bucks from 150 up to the 200 range not many people have the ability to walk n look for them. I know a few spots with some bucks that have great genetics from typical to non-typical. If this comment crosses ur eyes. Give me a shout n will have you come north for a huge bush buck
Thanks for the info. My wife and I were at the range here in Alberta and I couldn’t get my 30-30 to group. We just looked at each other when you said that realizing I had my barrel resting on the bags I was shooting from. Thanks again
He wasn’t honest. That deer was hit. It’s movement after the shot and running with it’s tail tucked show contact. It sucks, but the wolves and yotes need to eat too! The way it crunched after the shot looked like guts to me.

You said that deer was taken the next year, you should get a pic of the deer and hunter and a pic of the shed's you say they found. That would silence everybody that said you wounded that deer and it died.
That's too bad. It's good to show these things because there are so many videos out there with guys shooting these huge bucks at crazy ranges, high 5-ing each other, making it look effortless. Anyone who has hunted long enough has had this kind of thing happen to them. I've had misses like that up close and I've connected at 450 yards. I've also had solid, thoracic rifle shots on deer and lost them due to expansion failure or fragmentation with projectiles that are supposed to be "deadly". We do the best we can but sometimes in the field, all bets are off. Sorry you lost the buck. You'll get 'em next time!
Not to be "that" guy... but understand that the Alberta regulations are very clear. You cannot leave your static position unless you are with your guide. The fact that he is on his way and you are losing day light does not justify you leaving your blind with a rifle to go and see if you have blood. This is a direct violation of the regulations. The amount of this crap we see on social media is astounding.
What kind of communist country are you living in that you’d have some kind of BS law like that and you actually follow it? Oh wait that’s commie Canada we’re taking about.
Actually I haven`t that I can think of. And i`m also not on youtube in the public eye as an outdoor media personality for nearly 2 decades making this kind of mistake, not reading the regulations....@@Leapat
If you watch it again you can see the vapor trail of the bullet going just behind his head. The reason he missed is because he rested the barrel on the window ledge. He should have rested the stock. Hard lesson to learn on a buck like that.
😂 there is no way it should have been a miss. 165 yards? Guess lm not the only one who makes rookie mistakes! Seems this guy doesn’t spend that much time at the range

We thought the same thing until we put it on the computer and went frame by frame. Clean miss from resting the barrel, not the stock, on the window sill. His sheds were found and he was killed the following hunting season.
ph hunter if you are a hunter , how can you miss a clear shot like this. you should not be in a hunting field at all. shame on you , you probably injure a lot of animal and you making a hunting movi.
As soon as I saw that barrel resting on the wall I knew it right away! Good catch on that and lucky the deer wasn’t just wounded!

yup i spotted the same thing ,and as soon as he pulled the trigger ,i knew it was a miss
