    Yes, many women pay VERY CLOSE attention to how you dress. Especially when you first meet. I actually experimented many times with all sorts of clothing, and was very surprised how much difference that makes!

    I see the faux pas here in Montana anytime I got out socially! I work on making sure I have clothes that fit my body and use colors/styles/ patterns that stay classy over time. Doesn't mean I'm a "fashionista" but I work on updating within my means. And yet, some women here think even casual is "overdressed." I know I when I make the effort I look good because I am worth it.

    Just heard about a recent study of 100 women that were asked if they would go out on a date, sleep with, get involved with a guy does his style matter in their decision. ALL of them said they would be more inclined to get "busy" with guys that dressed well over those that don't. However, and the interesting part, when a similar group of men where asked the same question only 1% said that a girl's style matters. Just goes to tell you that basically women are dressing up to impress/ward-off other women and it has little to no impact on a guy's decision to get involved with them.

    Although I have been married for the past 41 years I did adhere to many of these rules when I was younger and still dating. The major problem I have had for most of my life is I am on the short side( under 5'-6") I have always had trouble getting pants and shorts to fit. Probably close to 30 years ago they pretty much stopped making shoes my size. Go to any shoe store in the men's section and the sizes start at 7 than walk over to the boys and they stop at 5 and if you get lucky 5 1/2. I am a size 6 same as my father was but when I ask I am always told they can't help me. I actually have to buy dress loafers in the women's department because a size 8 is a perfect fit. I recently went to 4 different stores looking for a new pair of jeans I cannot find any with the right waist size and they're all to long. The last pair of dress pants I bought had to be shorten 6".

    SHOES!!! I bought a pair of all-white sneakers at the beginning of the summer based on your recommendation and holy cow! I cannot tell you how many compliments I received. I've been divorced for five years and two of my children (ages 22 and 20) asked me if I was getting ready to date again. LOL. I just got a pair of brown leather sneaks based on the recommendation of the woman I'm dating (so, yes, I guess I was planning on dating again. LOL). She loved my white sneaks, saying it suggested to her I cared about my clothing and overall appearance. I enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work!

    Great advice - after 40 almost everything should be tailored (it’s our secret weapon guys). But good tailors are hard to find. I’d like to see a video with tips for screening tailors. Do they use pins instead of chalk? Can they communicate in your primary language? Do they give advice on what would be flattering on your body type? Help John. How do we separate the craftsmen from the hacks? There’s such a difference in skill level and price…

    *I MAKE BESPOKE* historical mens suits 1890 to 1930 - this is my TOP TIP and I can not stress this enough *GET YOUR CLOTHES ALTERED TO FIT YOU*
    Rich people don't look rich cos their clothes are expensive, they look rich cos their clothes FIT. Buy second-hand [seriously buy second-hand, if a garment is good enough to sell second-hand its high quality] and then spend the little bit of money to have ALL your trousers, jeans, shirts, jackets altered to fit. $20 for a 2nd hand jacket + $20 for it altering will look like a $1500 jacket.

    Great style advice as always. All sensible stuff. Here's what I don't get though... Most men ( including myself) accept advice like this as constructive criticism, and, if guilty, decide to do better. But when one lists what women have to change up in their style... Example... Lose weight...the women scream blue murder. Keep the videos coming. We're happy to look dapper for the discerning ladies out there.

The other feedback I've heard a lot is how good or bad our fingernails look. Chewed down nails, torn cuticles that look they were bleeding a half hour ago are a no-go for a lot of women.

    You might lose some guys with "dress to impress." I say present the best version of yourself. Less pressure. Easier to focus on what to do and what not to do. Feel relaxed. Look relaxed. Come across as genuine. Women sense if you're being genuine or trying too hard. Go to any occasion and you can sense the guys who are wearing something they "have to" wear. As you've said many times, fit is crucial.

    Solid advice most of which if not all you've said before. However, from what you have repeatedly aired appearantly still needs emphasis or clarification. Legend always. And as always a great video John. Well I flew back to Cleveland this week to have some work done at the Cleveland Clinic the best hospital system in my opinion in the world. Anyhow when you mentioned White socks I had to chuckle being here in Cleveland if you wear white socks from the part of Cleveland where I came from and this is not my opinion this is how it is you were immediately labeled blue collar and you worked in the Chevy or the Ford plant. You could only wear white socks going to the gym. This was as a kid as well as an adult. It is freezing cold here and there was actually snow last night.
    I do find it so ironic how people will make the comment oh you're so judgmental. The entire world is based on judgment and opinion. And it does matter

Some manufacturers don’t put in the effort to print both sides, especially on darker shirts like the one you are wearing. • @karlr750
      @karlr750 Рік тому

      Why not do both? I have limits to the amount of space in my closet (and my budget for clothing), so I'm *not* going to buy every shirt that I like. Since I'm only choosing a few shirts out of the ones I like, why would I want to pick the ones that will create a negative impression?

    • @Joey21071
      @Joey21071 Рік тому

      @@karlr750 Because opinions vary. One person might look at something you're wearing and hate it. Another person can look at what you're wearing and love it. You can't please everyone so just please yourself and buy what you like.

    • @karlr750
      @karlr750 Рік тому

      @@Joey21071 , you're right, you're right, you're wrong, and I can prove it.
      Tastes differ, and you can't please everyone. You're absolutely right on both of those accounts. But if you're just pleasing yourself, and not taking into account who *else* might be pleased or displeased, then you're shooting yourself in the foot.
      I wear clothes that I like, and I'm not recommending that anyone do differently. But I *also* keep in mind what other people will like.
      Most specifically, it's in my interest to wear clothes that *my wife* thinks I look sexy in … since she's the one person in this world whom I'm having sex with.
      Even for guys who are still single, it's still beneficial to consider what other people think.
      PROOF THAT IT MATTERS:
      Don't take my word for this. Test this on your own. Take a screenshot of John, then crop it down so you can just see the subtle polka dot shirt he's wearing. Then go online and search through photos from "That 70s Show," and pick *any patterned shirt* you find. Crop that photo down so just the shirt is visible.
      Take your two photos to every single woman you know. Ask each of them which shirt would work better if a guy was on a first date *with her* (dinner & a movie).
      Tastes differ. Some women will prefer John's shirt, while others will prefer the 70s style shirt. (And some will love both, while others hate both.) Do the two shirts get the same number of votes, or does one shirt get wildly more votes than the other? If one shirt does far better than the other, then paying attention to what other people think matters … even if they all have different opinions.
      If you want to be really strategic about it, then it's not as simple as picking the shirts (or outfits) that get the most votes. Sometimes it's better to choose the less popular option.
      As an example, I look like a nerd (due to genetics). I also *am* a nerd, so there's truth in advertising. The *only* women who will be attracted to me are the ones who like nerdy guys. Therefore, I want to cater to *those* women, not the majority. Today I'm wearing an olive turtleneck, charcoal slacks, burgundy boots, and a gray-brown tweed jacket. I look like a put-together college professor. My wife loves the look.

    • @Joey21071
      @Joey21071 Рік тому

      @@karlr750 See I can't do that. More importantly, I would never do that. I wear a bowler hat. Do you think a lot of people like bowler hats? Probably not. They probably view them as being outdated. Do I care what they think? No. I still wear my bowler hat because I like it. I don't need to see how many people like my bowler hat to see if I like it and should wear it. I wear it because I like it.

    What you wear should always matter and women are correct to judge it. If I met a woman and she dressed like a slob, then it tells me she has no respect for herself.

    When in doubt, ask yourself "would a gay man wear this?" If the answer is "no," put it down and walk away. - Me 2022

    If you're looking to Date/Mate find someone who wants to use you for biological and monetary resources in regards to their own future aspirations, then go on then, watch, buy all the stuff & be mindful of your consumer/appearance. If you just want to make an honest living, live a Holy life, keep to yourself & help people in your community while enjoying your own hobbies interests; what you wear doesn't matter.

    Clothiers are showing a lot of pleated pants lately...they really do look classy in a vintage sort of way...just make sure that your sweater/shirt/shoes have that same sort of vibe...

    Everyone who says choice of clothing doesn't matter is a liar or self-deluded. Because choice of clothing is the first evidence of the choices a person makes, everyone uses clothing as the first evidence of determining the character of people we meet. Everyone uses clothing choice as a factor in our initial evaluation of people we meet. (Well, people who truly don't get mugged a lot.)
    Smart people continue to "collect data" as they get to know the new person better, including just walking closer to them as they pass on the sidewalk, but clothing is always a factor in how we initially evaluate other people.

    People in general, but men specifically have gotten significantly lazy and lost their standard out in public; regardless of Covid as an excuse. Even basic grooming has gone out the door unfortunately.

    I think another mistake is having a “uniform” where there is no variety in your wardrobe. I see guys that wear those hike boot things everyday with baggy jeans, white socks, and a short sleeve plaid shirt everyday. They own the same shirt in 5 colors and wear a different color each day. The only change is if they wear a jacket or not depending on how cold it is.

    I am guilty of wearing tall White socks,
    with my shorts (for 20 years).
    No wonder the women have been running away from me.
    Now I am aware of how bad this looks.
    Time for me to buy colored socks.
    Now, I will become a chic magnet !

      Man, congratulations on changing that. I am curious on why you thought that wasn’t a crazy look. I myself I’m trying to lose weight I’ve gained about 35 pounds of last two years. Normally I’ve been very fit because I exercise five days a week but I got off track just haven’t been feeling well so I just went on semi glue tide and that’s really helping me over the hump..
