  • Gamer Ahmer: GAMING CONVENTION Wants To Hide My TRUTH…
    Retro gaming refers to playing and collecting video games, consoles, and accessories from previous generations, typically from the 1970s to the early 2000s. This nostalgic hobby encompasses a wide range of systems, such as the Atari 2600, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Sega Genesis, and original PlayStation. Enthusiasts appreciate the classic gameplay mechanics, pixelated graphics, and unique soundtracks that defined an era before modern advancements in gaming technology. Retro gaming not only celebrates the history and evolution of video games but also provides a means to preserve and experience the charm and challenge of older titles.

    Nintendo is a renowned Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company. Founded in 1889 as a playing card company, Nintendo has evolved into one of the most influential and iconic players in the gaming industry. They are best known for creating beloved franchises such as Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, and Donkey Kong, as well as innovative gaming consoles like the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Game Boy, Wii, and Switch. Nintendo's focus on family-friendly gaming experiences, innovation, and nostalgia has endeared them to millions of gamers worldwide.
    Sega is a renowned video game company that has produced a variety of consoles over the years. One of its most popular consoles is the Sega Genesis, known as the Mega Drive outside of North America. Released in the late 1980s, it was Sega's 16-bit console and competed with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The Genesis offered a strong lineup of games, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe. It also had add-ons like the Sega CD and the Sega 32X, although they weren't as successful.

    This is why some conventions and convention runners don’t want UA-cam content creators at their convention. Or talk bad on them. They are afraid of someone seeing what happened. Conventions need to realize, creators have a following and make an impact for conventions. Good on you for calling it out!

    The same convention your talking about is also an absolute jerk to me when asking about a media badge.
    Which is wild because every single year at that convention I get so many people that walk up to me saying my video series on that convention is what lead them to buy the tickets/flight to the event.
    Don’t change the thumbnail let them be mad it’s gonna do no harm to them.

      Woah! That is insane to hear! I have the same thing happen where so many people ask me if I’ll be going. I think conventions need to stop looking at sub counts and need to realize that views matter. Not everyone expects the world to come out to an event but sometimes a media pass or even a nice respectful reply is enough.

    We all know this is about Too Many Games because I had the same experience as you. It all falls on us as a buyers. It starts with the conversation center rent,insurance,talent,staff ect. The admission was out of control I’m sure they up charged the vendors which had to charge higher prices because of the vendor fees. I went through the same thing. I back you on the one!

    • @tr1bes
      @tr1bes 2 місяці тому +3

      I was planning to go when I look at just the admissions rate is about $75. Parking lot fee. And then buying games. So it can cost $100 minimum. Does not include air fare, motel/hotel stay and food.
      I take my chances to use that money to buy games online instead.

      TooManyGames last year was my first convention, we made it into the once yearly family vacation, brought the wife and two kids. I was super excited about being around like minded people and not getting charged crazy amounts based on the thought that “these people have the same hobbies/interests as me. Boy was I wrong. Nearly every game at every booth I inquired about was well over EBay “buy it now” and “free shipping “ cost. Every time I would bring this up to any of the sellers I was told the same thing “convention prices bud”…. So I drove all the way up there from Virginia Beach VA, to pay well over the amount of what games are worth. Needless to say I won’t be doing that again. We ended up leaving and spending the day touring Philadelphia though and that was fun.

      I found some pretty good deals at TMG, but admitedly I'm also not looking for the same things as everyone else and my eyes glaze right over most of the Nintendo and Sega stuff. I did have one vendor confide that if he wished he had known about one of the deals (I think it was the Vectrex light pen) that he would have bought it and sold it for twice as much at his own booth. (At which I point I stopped looking at his booth. Way to tell me that you have the highest prices at the con.)
      The same happens at any convention and if you build a relationship with a vendor or find a vendor you trust, you can even ask them which tables to avoid. Vendors have reputations among each other.
      (I'm going to take a quick moment to expound. This advice is for people who are actually friendly and strike up genuine conversations with people. You don't have to be a great talker, and many of us are introverts so what I'm describing sounds like some sort of Olympic feat, but honest, real conversation. Just don't start a conversation with "Hey, who's got the best deals here?")
      My issue with TMG (besides the admission fee) make more sense when you consider the "You don't matter" mindset. There were clear markers of which panels they thought mattered and which they didn't and which guests mattered and which didn't. A certain level of VIP treatment is expected (and frankly earned), but not at the point of shoving all the smaller panels into a noisy corner while nearly a third of the last room went unused.

    Great talk here. The whole convention space needs an overhaul anyway. I see charges for over $200 for a small table at some of these now? No wonder sellers are so high. And if sellers are taking advantage of buyers and creating any kind of negative experience, I would think the people heading up these conventions would want to know. Cons need to get back down to Earth on rates and sellers don't need to come to these things if they're not serious about doing good biz. Hell, if I ran a con, Id send out surveys for feedback on the sellers. There may be some you don't wanna have back. Guest experience has to be a priority. And when admission prices are rising too, I dunno.. just seems like there's a lot of things that the whole space needs to get a handle on which in turn and in theory should benefit all involved.

    I’ve never been to a gaming convention, but that shot of SNES titles at the beginning caught my eye. 550 dollars for Sunset Riders is some insane “Convention Tax” if you ask me. I’m not paying it and absurd prices should be called out. Like 700 dollars for TMNT Not For Resale. Or any of those other Not For Resales. I know they’re Not For Resale, they’re rarer, but that’s close to triple what TMNT NFR can be bought for on eBay. If there really is a gaming convention tax like that, I would never purchase games at a convention. I would only go to them to socialize with friends and stuff.

      Dollars to doughnuts, the overpricing vendor most likely got their stash through theft, and deception, and they are just trying to pass off illegally obtained goods onto naïve, and/or unsuspecting, buyers, usually kids and teenagers that are new to things like these, and you absolutely should investigate the vendor for such things, as I think that you would be surprised at the kinds of illegal, and shady, things that they are involved in, and you also might bring down an evil empire in turn.

    I mostly go to Too Many Games to support the artists so i can't comment on game prices however what bothers me is the fast pass they are offering to meet guests this year. Its a benefit for getting either a Mini Boss pass or Final Boss pass. The problem is theres only one line for VIP. Final Boss pass holders should be allowed to go ahead of Mini Boss pass holders cause its the premium pass. They really dropped the ball not having separate lines for the different VIPs.

    Love your channel Gamer Ahmer, but I think “convention markup prices” are justified. These people are the reason we are able to add video games to our collections. Without them, we would have nothing. And it’s not just vendors at a convention, it includes eBay resellers and local resellers. If they price a game at $100, when it usually goes for $80 online, I think that’s fine because like you said, they have to pay a lot of money just to move their games into the convention, for the table, for hotel room and travel expenses, etc.

    • @GamerAhmer
      @GamerAhmer  2 місяці тому +1

      Definitely understandable to think about. I can look past a few dollars but when a $10 game is going for $60+ or games are $300 plus more than eBay I have an issue with that. Gamer Ahmer,
    Unfortunately, what you're talking about in this video is so generalized that I don't know if anyone could begin to give you REAL advice here. It sounds like you're more apprehensive about more backlash if you provide any specifics, but being vague often only gives way to echo chamber feedback and is that what you're really wanting? I mean, the most you're probably going to get from the folks who like you are responses like, "Don't change a thing," and "Do you," but is that really productive? I guess, if nothing else, it could be used as a means to rack up comment numbers for some algorithm.
    Was what you said in the referenced video liable? Did you slander the company in anyway? I can't tell stuff like that from this video. You're not even revealing the video you're referencing. And why should I even bother hunting it down when you seem unwilling to provide it? All I got was "I'm just trying to help people and the convention people look down on us and only gripe when something goes viral." But is that really what happened? There's nothing here to back it up. How do I know? Just a person saying it's so.
    One piece of advice I could give that might actually help you here, is I would steer away from using the term, "My Truth," either spoken, or in this case, written in the title of this video. I know it can appear stronger, but it's often used when someone doesn't want to believe the facts. It actually kills many an argument or stance. If you want to state something as "Truth," and IT IS the Truth, then just say "The Truth." If what you're conveying isn't actual fact, then I suggest replacing the phase with something accurate like "My Feelings," "My Thoughts," or "My Experience." And I must stress, I'm not telling you to change the title of your video, the whole purpose of this video, from what I can glean, is you're annoyed or frustrated, because someone told you to change something. This is just some friendly advice, not a command. I think commenting about this is more helpful than just saying "Do what you want to do" in regards to your question at the end of this video.
    I enjoyed seeing you participate on a stream once, and this video came up in my feed, so I thought I'd check it out. Unfortunately, since I don't have any specifics of what exactly happened here, who said exactly what, and the other side's take, I don't see a point in pandering agreeance. Hopefully someone watching knows more about the situation, preferably with the all the facts, and can better help you.
    Cheers!

      I appreciate the feedback. Most of the people know which convention I’m referencing because similar instances happened to them. It is in fact the facts and 100% truth as I have screenshots and proof from my situation. I was afraid at first when making this video that more feedback and retaliation would happen from this. I do tag the video in one of the cards at the top right during the video and many people have commented the convention in the comments section. I had someone help guide the thumbnail and title for this video as I wanted to make a point and make sure it would do well so that’s why it’s marked as such. What I’ve gathered is that I need to not be afraid to speak the truth going forward and need to stand up more for what I believe in. I couldn’t imagine this happening to others who were more upset then me.

    • @videogamevegas
      @videogamevegas 2 місяці тому

      Gamer Ahmer,
      Glad to hear that some know what's going on and you got what you needed. My general advice when it comes to stating the truth is prove that it is the truth. Since this video didn't have that kind of definitive information, like said screenshots you mention, then the person who helped you "guide" the title of the video, though they might have thought they had the best intentions in mind, I feel still mislead the audience, and as I can only speak for myself, that's the way I felt.
      If your video instead was titled, something like, "I think a Video Game Convention is attempting to suppress me sharing my experience at their event," then that sets expectations quite differently. The focus then tracks to your own general feelings and observations, which you did here, and not on hard evidence (though I still might hope for some).
      I'm sure you'll come across people like myself who abhor when words are used in ways that attempt to subvert reality (even if innocent in intent), or don't convey honesty. Let's say for the sake of argument, that what you've said to me here is in fact true; that "It is in fact the facts and 100% the truth." Then what we're talking about here is THE TRUTH, not just "Your Truth." There is no need to be coy. But because you've used the word truth in the title without providing specific facts or evidence therein, even with the oxymoron phase "My Truth," it only serves to lessen your position. I want to share with you a link to a topic from my channel introduction video regarding my thoughts on this particular subject. Don't feel like you have to watch it, but I think it might explain more of what I mean: ua-cam.com/video/QyzVa8evEv8/v-deo.html
      I really want to thank you for taking the time to engage on this subject. Some can take offense to stuff like this, but I saw something that might be helpful to a fellow creator and thought I'd share. I did enjoy this video regardless of the title and I hope you find a satisfactory resolution to your situation.
      Have a great one!

      @@GamerAhmer oh I know that I have no interest in that I would go to a convention for game hunting. I don’t care about meeting UA-camrs etc - for me it’s just games and memorabilia but it’s just a crapshoot whether you’re gonna find anything… it’s not worth the hassle.

      I will say if you’re the type of collector that just collects all games whether you’re gonna play them or not, the conventions are probably a better deal because of course you’re gonna find something when you’re literally hoarding games and will buy anything you see.… If you’re the type of gamer/collector that only buys games you’ll actually PLAY your sights are considerably narrower.

      @@WilliamSmith-ex9et oh that makes sense. I enjoy seeing the variety at conventions. There’s always something I find that I typically can’t find online or in my local game stores. Definitely have to look for the deals though.

    It's not all gonna be sunshine and rainbows, no matter if the promoter wants it to be or not. Not every experience will be a positive one and trying to put that spin on you isn't right. You got me started collecting, so I'll defer to you to any good advice, and all of this has you painted in the right. Might be worth cutting losses with this show :)

      Oh I agree. I was thinking about going back but I won’t be this year. Last years experience and then this incident is enough for me to not go.

      I think many are growing! I’ve seen some amazing conventions (great prices, great people, and a fun time) and then I’ve seen not so great ones.

    I know you said you don’t want to say which convention it is, but wear a shirt in your next video where the 3rd letter on the shirt is the 1st letter of the state the convention was held in. We can figure it out from there.

    Tell it like it is. This happened why sugar coat it or change it.
    If the con doesn't like it than they need to look at what they can do differently.
