Did you change the oil and filter after you finished, I know you cleaned as best you could but any swarf or bits given these engines sensitivities wouldn't help down the line.

At those mileages these are the cars that never get seen by the dealer & their techs never get to solve these problems. Hats off to you putting things right with good diagnostics & some sound decision-making on the change to a stud & nut. These are the jobs that you remember & that showcase good engineering judgement.

Did my injectors on my Peugeot 5008 1.6 diesel last year. One of the bolts snapped from the time before a mate changed one. Long story short, the broken part of the bolt which was left in stopped the clamp from pulling down the injector enough to make a seal.... so i cut the bolt down slightly which did the job.....

  • @Jonodrew1286
    @Jonodrew1286 Рік тому +3

When these VAG 1.6 /2.0 l seals go many people come to the conclusion it fitter error but its a design floor - the new seals are far to small for the injector and burn out - releasing the torque and causing the bolt to eventually snap.
The damage can be catastrophic - The feed pipes get distorted. The leak-off pipes shear-off - the injector seals in the rocker cover split and if you are really unlucky
the injectors gets slammed into the seat and clip the hole the nozzle goes into, at the wrong angle scarring the seat area - meaning you have to reface the seat and use a different washer - I have sean a head scrapped from this and Fords have the same set up….

14:30 I didn't understand what was the issue actually, why you couldn't use the same bolt in the new threaded insert? I have the same problem (same engine TDI 1.6) in my case the two injectors just popped out without breaking the bolt. so i'm just wondering should i use the same bolt or use a stud instead.
Very useful information btw... Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

I go without other things, to get better tools. A US$700 scanner and a US$200 bore scope, have made my back yard life far more enjoyable in the past year.
These were over a year of saving, they have been worth the saving effort.
I wish I had somewhere to put a lift.

..the worst part of this whole saga is the brain dead engineers who thought that putting injectors in the middle of the engine, down through the rocker cover, was a good idea....guaranteed to screw up the engine eventually, one way or another....you need a medal for sorting that mess, Leon! 😂

Pay no mind to the critics. The same fault on 2 identical vehicles can often require different solutions depending on its history and the customers personal circumstance It's the results that count. I've made do and mended many times, if used is more convenient then used it is.

I don't understand why people moan about your expensive tools.
You are a professional mechanic so you should have all the latest tools!!
I just got myself a set of USPro Flare nut spanner set that I will probably only ever use once 😂😂 but just want to know if it will be less likely to round the nuts off🤔 as they do have that extra bit of surface to catch the nut/bolt all 6 sides

I hate this trade now been in it for 40 years there’s so much over engineered crap on cars now… and things go wrong and the customer blaming you for other peoples fuck ups . Those bolts are a nightmare they are stretch bolts and shouldn’t be used again and mostly over tightened by previous garages and when you come to take them out they break leaving you with the stress of repairing. Everything is plastic housings.fuel pipes.sensors. The list goes on ready to snap taking them out even changing a headlight bulb is a nightmare on most vehicles as well. Bring back the seventies so much easier then. Going back to those injector bolts make sure there’s no oil inside the bottom of the bolt shaft otherwise when you tighten them they will become hydraulic and will snap the bolt

That bolt was either done up with a impact gun or some one with no experience at all like a diyer. You know instantly when you thread a bolt in its not right, the previous person I suspect used a gun then a ratchet to where you can feel it getting tight then though fuck it not my problem now and left it that way for you to find.

@@bodgitandleggitgarage as for the threads stretching on the injector hold down bolt that's what they are apparently supposed to do because they are Torque to Yield (stretch) bolts and only to be used once that's why they are torqued to 8Nm on stage 1 and a further 180° on stage 2.

Why the hell those injectors are so looong in cars,no need for that, they propaply work fine if they were shorter in cars.likes sparkplug style lenght.but always like there go thru the oilpan lenght.i think is possiply make them shorter if like.much easier to maintenange and get of and back.
