PASS OUT FLIERS. I have a landscaping business here in Tulsa. In the off season (November-February) is when firewood sales really rock. I get a lot of leaf cleanups during the day but I can make my deliveries in the evening when it's dark which is great because it gets dark early in those 4 months. Also, we have a green waste dump here in town and you can come cut all the logs you want and haul them off for free.
Those are great tips! It's cool that you are finding ways to make the seasons work for you. And I like the idea of finding logs at a green waste dump. Very resourceful!

I spent a lot of time on the firewood channels over the last month and yours it is easily my favorite, you have the most concise information and explanations about starting the business and what one will need to do, it’s not just video after video of you splitting wood. I cant wait to get started. I have no Idea why this side hustle (for us) is so exciting, I have no real ties to firewood other than we camp and have backyard fires all the time. Im starting out pretty well I think, I have a little 10 ton Generac electric kinetic splitter for a tabletop processing area into some totes and a 25 ton county line splitter for some big rounds that are going to be plentiful from a tree service. Hopefully our winter ends here soon!
One thing I will say, is check with your town ordinance on whether or not you're allowed to sell at a roadside stand. I moved 20 cords worth of bundles so far this summer (May 2021 up until now), and apparently the town caught on to my side cash hustle. They are now going around shutting down all roadside firewood stands :( It SUCKS, but I am looking for ways around it, looks like I may need a permanent building to sell out of, aka a mini garage/shed. Typical corporate America, discouraging those from working hard!
That is a good word of advice. Thankfully here in Texas it's pretty open towards people trying to make money from a small business. That's too bad that they are trying to shut you down. What state are you from?

I hope you Texans are over the worst of your cold blast - it will be interesting to learn how the state is going to prepare for the next one. You raised very pertinent points that folk should consider before establishing a firewood business. They would also be well advised to view GP Outdoors video No 387. While written from a Canadian viewpoint I'm sure it contains invaluable information that most likely is also relevant to guys, and dolls, in the US of A. You should treat yourself to a tent similar to Back 40 to split in during cold snaps to make life more bearable. Keep on Splitting!!

Retired needed a hobby I heat with wood sold a couple face cord three years later I’m selling 140 face a year an that’s all the bigger I want to get spend about 1,500 on fuel a mantince splitter coast 1,800 make 14,000 get the wood from tree cutters for free just haul it home they even load it on my car trailer
You mentioned face cord , I’ve heard it before but don’t know what it means , can you explain ? also Thankyou for the video as I’m currently starting a firewood & kindling bundle side business , I’m a machinist by trade but I love working in wood , & your video has answered a lot of my questions , Gods blessings, Mike
When I say face cord it just means 1/3 of a full cord. A full cord is 4 x 4 x 8. Cutting firewood at 16" makes 3 stacks back to back making up 4 feet. A face cord is one of those stacks, making it a 1/3 of a cord. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
For me it’s about heating our home first. Then when I get to the point I have more than I need for our home I’ll look into doing a firewood stand and sell bundles or racks. My problem is I’ll have to get creative with where and how I store it in my yard as it seasons. Having a steady supply is key. Craigslist and Facebook have been where I’ve scored my wood so far. My driveway is narrow so getting a tri axle might be an issue for getting pokes delivered.
You've got to take of the family first! The main things I've seen for seasoning is just making sure there is plenty of sun and airflow and getting the wood off the ground on pallets or something similar.
If your driveway is straight and it has good overhead clearance and good clearance on the sides. It is hard to believe that it is too narrow. You could measure it and measure a truck. You could have a trucker look at it. The curves are the problem where a truck needs more.
@@jakebredthauer5100 Its a narrow back road and I’m just after a blind curve. I have a stone wall running on both sides of the end of my driveway and curbs and not level frontage so it would have to be an asphalt only back in, no jumping curbs. It’s all good. I’ve been able to get trailer loads with the 5x9 trailer in myself. I’m gotten good at backing. And I did end up making some for a Wood stand, it’s almost done just need to paint it and tidy it up. I’ve had a pretty steady supply of ash to keep my little buddy gig going.
@@caporaso With the curve, you may be able to assist the trucker by watching for traffic. You may be able to take out the curbs and the walls. Regarding the slope, it depends how steep the slope is, so the truck does not tip over. Slopes can be altered also. You probably know at least one trucker who could look at it and advise you. These changes probably depend on the volume of business that you want to do.
So for me all I know is tree service wood., my frends that I have made over the last few years know hiw much I can handle and can tell when I am overwhelmed.. So when they don't text me for weeks at a time that gives me time to split n stack. I am only selling in full cords.. Good info to start with..
AND prove to them it's way cheaper to burn wood. I crunched the numbers and just published a video proving it. Check it out - curious of your feedback.

There's just something about firewood that's hard to describe to people that don't get it like us. Sounds like you've got a good setup to get started!
