Arcade used a modified Tekken 3 engine and PS2 used a new engine built from the ground up. One of the few times a home port looked better than the arcade
@The King of Iron Fist I played the arcade version very briefly but on a technical aspect I didn't notice anything, it's mostly in the content department
@@CaptainNight yeah that's what I presumed, the only thing I could recall about the arcade version is that the AI kicked my ass and I learned for the first time what's it like to suck at tekken
David Alexander that's because originally it's was going to come out for the PSone but when SONY announce the PS2 Harada went where the money and fame is.
@@OddSauce yeah i think back when 3d arcade games started being a hit, sony created an arcade hardware called ZInc, which housed many fighting games and made it easy to port them to ps1, which explains why there wasn't that much cut content between ps1 and arcade ports of fighting games.
I'd love a remake of Tekken 2 with Kazuya's remade stage at the top of the skyscryper with the same theme and blue carpet with pattern. Including story prologues for all characters.
I still think the PS2 version looks really impressive considering how old it is especially with the floor textures. It would be cool if Namco released a direct arcade port though, the soundtrack is superior in a few ways and supposedly the hit boxes are tighter
FatBananas The mall stage in T4 still looks really nice. Maybe it is because I have played the series forever but there is a lot to find visually appealing from T3 onward in my opinion.I think overall the PS2 version of TTT is the most consistent to this day. Especially impressive is the fact that it was a PS2 launch title- makes me wonder how much they were pushing the system from the start. Props to Namco
+Otaku_GameFan I had a chance to one time at a bus station 3 years ago in Alabama but all I could do was watch the demo on screen, the coins wouldn't work as well as my bus was arriving.(perfect opportunity missed).
They should have gave us the choice to switch back and forth between the ps2 & arcade versions I really loved the tekken 3 designs of Jun, Kazuya & devil
Nope. I get cha. You probably mean Namco should've gave players the option to simply switch between back n forth. It would almost be like how on Super Street Fighter ll HD remixed, Capcom enabled the feature to allow you to change between the original Super Street Fighter ll Turbo or the current remixed/remade newer edition.
It’s crazy that two weeks ago I played the actual arcade version of tekken tag 1 for the very first time at a gaming lounge they had the actual arcade machine and it was my first time ever playing it and I was like damn all these years of owning the console version of the game and having the arcade version soundtracks on my playlist I thought I was never gonna play the actual arcade version and I used to call it the tekken tag with the tekken 3 graphics lol
It's funny as hell that tekken 4, 5, tekken tag, and tekken 6 and soon to be the new tekken 7 got all arcade pixel perfect ports to the PlayStation consoles but sega with virtua fighter could only get one of its arcade games arcade perfect on a home console and that was VF 5 on the PS3 lol why I loved tekken more then VF
Haseeb Ali I like that the PS2 Graphics are obviously better than it's Arcade counterpart, but it's NOT THE SAME, I don't like some of the changes that were made: The Stage Designs are completely different (Atleast the Stage Designs in the DreamCast Version of Soul Calibur kept close to the ones in the Original Arcade Version), Paul doesn't have his shoulder pads in his leather biker outfits (Even his portrait SHOWS HIM WITH SHOULDER PADS. Even in the FMVs) and originally in the Arcade Version there was another room you can see in Jin's Stage, but the PlayStation Versions removed it altogether. 😟
I think they over did the console version. Only to have more details in the backgrounds and washed out textures. (The HD version fixed some of those washed out textures)
No shit that the PS2 version looks miles more detailed than the arcade version. But aesthetically speaking, there are a few stages that I just prefer more over their home console ports. Biggest example being Lei’s stage. There’s something about it that grabs my attention more than the PS2 version…
I bought that title in 2001, about july 2001, the graphics didnt liked much, but seing the kind of graphics i can see in newers tekken version i must say the ps2 graphics characters are better from the actual one.

Arcade used a modified Tekken 3 engine and PS2 used a new engine built from the ground up. One of the few times a home port looked better than the arcade
Considering the game had facial animation too i wonder if it's the same engine they would later use for tekken 4

@@OddSauce The Arcade board Tekken 4 used, System 24, has the same specs as the PS2 so they shouldn't look any different.
@@CaptainNight yeah that's what I presumed, the only thing I could recall about the arcade version is that the AI kicked my ass and I learned for the first time what's it like to suck at tekken
Honestly old graphics gives the game a really nostalgic but cool feeling
U touched my heart friend
Arcade version looks like a PS1 game.
David Alexander That's because it used the same engine as Tekken 3 which is on the PS1.
Namco System 12 arcade system engine
Also because the arcade hardware is very similar to the PS1 which is why the game was ported to the console in the first place

was playing it myself just the other day through an emulator. It really has aged very well, even more so then its successor Tekken 4 imo.

Jay H There is no PS2 game that lets you switch from bad to good graphic, that would just be silly
I mean in the ps3 tekken tag tournament hd version!

This is a huge problem but how did you not hear the difference between Paul's arcade and console themes?
Right.

arcade version looks faster and a bit harder to hit combos cause of smaller hitbox, but i guess it depends on what you played or prefer most i guess.

Also the arcade version had more stuff included like at the start of the stage they do there posture thing were as in the ps2 port they dont

New Comparison!! Tekken Tag Arcade Soundtrack vs Ps2 Soundtrack
What happened to the final stage area?
Where is Jin Stage?
Well it's no surprise the ps2 version looks better since the tekken tag arcade board was a modified ps1 board running the game. Great video.
