You can also put rebar in the holes in the center of the bricks and hammer them in. Keeps the bricks from shifting.
That would make it more than $50. 😂
I've been using this garden corner stones for at least 3 yrs now! ;) They're Awesome❣❣❣
LOL, I'm late to the party! Thanks for watching 🥰
@@perkyplantparent Naw not late at all, Great Minds Always Think alike ;)
Don't those thin boards warp badly??? Grand Blessings everyone everywhere
the only place selling them near me has them at $12.50 a pop.. I’ll probably have to pass
@meady50 you'll find a clever alternative, keep looking 😉 ❤
The pavers are designed for 2x6 wood. It fits perfectly.
Ask for paper at grocery store. Brown paper bags work really well and last long time. Cardboard seems to breakdown faster to me.
Great tip! I'll have to try that. Thank you for watching 😊
Corrugated cardboard is better, it will break down but that's the point, you need to get some worm action going on! The cardboard is only a weed barrier till the bed is established
Cardboard and paper are both toxic.
The cardboard are suppose to break down, just like any other appropriate paper goods you place there. While they break down and decompose they suppress the grass and weeds underneath it.
I just went to power and got 6 of those pavers and some 2x4x10 wood and am making my bed today!! Thank you!!
That’s fantastic! I’m so happy for you! Be on the lookout for another build from us later today. It’s a FREE one this time!!😎
I have these.
Where would you get that cheap cedar fencing from?
Dont use cardboard as it usually has chemical sprays. Try using painters drop paper.
The dirt types makes a big difference on the final price
Thanks I never saw those corner bricks before!
Nifty! Great ides. Especially like the corner blocks. Looke like the slots could hold thicker boards which wouldn't rot out as fast. Could use scrap wood from free ads.
Yes, absolutely! Thank you for your comment.👍 😊
Now this is awesome! Thank you🙏🏼
Great idea. The only thing I'd need is some kind of wire mesh in the bottom to keep the varmints out.
You can use hardware cloth.
I know it sounds like fabric but it's not, it's like little squares of wire, like screen, only bigger.

Great post. I just moved so money is tight. This is the solution to get growing now.
I totally get it! We have a build coming out today for FREE, so stay tuned for that!😎🙌

Thank you so much for watching 😊
I think this is a great idea for a budget garden your actually not getting the best out of your time or your money. The wood on these garden beds would work for about 1-4 harvesting seasons depending on the weather until they start to decompose. If you want a garden bed that will last make yours out of brick, stone, even concrete works! Stone doesn’t decompose so it a lot less work. We even got our bricks off of Facebook marketplace for only 65$ and we haven’t had to mess with the structure since! This makes a for a lot less work and money waste. So really doing things the hard way pats off in the end! (Still a great idea though I in no way mean this hatefully)
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment! 😊 The whole reason for my online existence is to share the bits of knowledge I have and hopefully inspire a few people to start growing their own food. Just getting started was the goal with this one. Thank you again and I hope to hear from you in the comments soon!

In Florida all the supplies in video cost about $125. With dirt this bed costs around $200
Hi Nicole, thanks for watching. In Miami Florida the boards are $1.98/each ( www.homedepot.com/p/Outdoor-Essentials-5-8-in-x-5-1-2-in-x-6-ft-Pressure-Treated-Pine-Dog-Ear-Fence-Picket-102560/202319053 ) so it would actually be a bit cheaper than what we did.
@@perkyplantparentit’s pressure treated which will leech chemicals into the vegetables
@@Arcadianx98in the video she says untreated cedar fence panels
I dunno about those blocks, but I've bought about 50 4x8x16 cinder blocks in the past month and they were just under $2 a piece. The 8x8x16 cinder blocks are just over $2. 2x4x8 wooder boards are a little over $3 a piece. I've bought bunch of those lately too. Most of those items have gone into making flowerbeds and a fire pit.
I can't imagine those blocks costing much more than standard cinder blocks. Maybe a couple of extra $ each.
Those are Lowes prices. I'm in Florida, but up in the panhandle. The closest Home Depot is about 35 miles away. Lowes is less than 10 miles.
@@user-iq7cu5tq3hshe said Lowe’s.
I just made mine thanks
You are very welcome! We are doing a FREE one right now. Started turned this week to see it.😉 Thank you for watching!!
Can anyone supply a link for the corner blocks? I really can't find any similar.
Lowes or home depot
Where are you located? We got ours at Lowe’s.
I would have used 2x’s instead of the 1x cedar fencing even though the cedar is suppose to last longer. Otherwise, add some reinforcing stakes to the long sides, both inside and out to give more support to prevent eventual splay-out.
Looking back, we should’ve put rebar in the holes of the brick pavers. Thank you for your feedback!😊
If your raised bed is going to be 12in tall or more, then you don't need to worry about weeds coming up from bellow. Grass and other weeds aren't going to grow a foot without sunlight. What you do want to do is use the cardboard around the outer edge of the bed to be barrier against weeds growing up the sides of the bed. I'd personally use a thicker wood than fencing so they would last longer, but that would of course, increase the price.
Thanks for commenting! Yes, I would prefer thicker cedar boards but that would definitely increase the cost by a bunch! my goal was to show people that it doesn't take a lot to get started. thanks for watching 😊
@@perkyplantparent Absolutely! And the price of that thicker wood can vary pretty wildly depending on where you live. But discovering the garden blocks was a real game changer for me because constructing beds with power tools has always seems really intimidating.
My dad had a couple yards of rocky sand dumped in the yard for him to use in the driveway to fill some holes. My dad never did that and years later that mound of rocky sand needs to be mowed. It was probably 3feet tall at the peak and somehow weeds and grass grew through it.
@@authorityfigure1630 If I had to hazard a guess, I would imagine that there were weed seeds that landed on top of the mound and started to grow from the surface, and not from below the mound. The same thing happens to any mulch barrier that isn't regularly maintained. They are called weeds because they can make anywhere a home, and the wind blows their seeds all over the place.
@@KakeemDude4 why can’t flowers be as resilient as weeds lol
hi would you be willing to publish a supply list for this build and where you got your supplies?
Got my blocks at home depot 4 years ago. I see their still same price 3.98 a block. I used thicker boards than she did though.
Hi Nina, Thank you for watching! I posted links to Lowe's where we bought our supplies. But here it is WITH quantities just for you 😊

Thank you Nora! I was trying to keep the cost down as much as possible, but if the budget permitted I would definitely like thicker boards. Thank you for watching 🥰
This might be a stupid question but if the cardboard is meant to decompose how will weeds stay out of your garden bed??
The cardboard stays long enough to weaken the weeds and there will be only minimal weeding after that.
Woohoo
Where you get those bricks from
@@yvonnewilson5003 I've seen them in Home Depot and they will cut the boards for you if want
What happens to the long sides when you add the soil and water?
Everything is still stable and we have had a tremendous amount of rain the last couple days. I think overall the bed will be just fine, especially once it is full of plants that help bind the soil. I have a new video that has a bed with more support (and cheaper) ua-cam.com/video/ajlgD_hH-1c/v-deo.html Thank you for watching!
If it’s untreated wood, will it get damaged / rot when u water?
Where can I get those boards and bricks?
We purchased from Lowes (Home Depot has them as well). Here are the links to each. Keep in mind that in some parts of the country, pine fence pickets are more available than cedar.

Where do you get them?
Cedar is great, but it's hard to find if you live in the South ☹️
What are the cedar wood measurements?
Would it matter if the ground is damp and isn’t leveled?
may i use this for school project?
I don’t see why not. That would be great to show people how affordable it is to make a garden bed to grow food!🙌
Hi, this is my first time building a garden bed. Can I please get some tips and tricks? What soil should I use?
Hi! Sorry for the late reply and thank you very much for watching. I just posted a new video showing exactly how I blend my garden soil. Please let me know if you have any questions 😊

Does anybody know what those bricks are called?
Thank you for watching! 😊 They are "Wall Retaining Bricks". Here is a link for reference: www.lowes.com/pd/Oldcastle-Planter-Wall-Tan-Retaining-Wall-Block-Common-6-in-x-8-in-Actual-5050-in-x-7-75-in/1001156396
The cardboard won't be a weed barrier for long as it will break down fairly quickly.
But once the dirt and stuff is on top less likely that anything grows up through it
@@californiacoon455moesmoney7 Nothing will grow through unless grass around the planter bed; I've had grass make its way up through the bottom of the planter and out the top.
Not needed for long and it will help the ground soil soil break down as well. Most weed problems are windblown and will not grow through that much soil. Thank you so much for watching! 😊
@catbee1452 I've had a few blades of grass pop through on the flower bed I recently constructed next to my house. Most of the grass blades popped up at the edges where the cardboard ends and one weak spot where my cardboard wasn't as thick. Other than that, it seems to be working fairly well.
Does anyone know where I can buy these blocks in the uk?
What size are the boards
Would pallet slats fit in the border bricks?
Yes, they are made for thick boards though.
These materials cost 130 USD (170 CAD) in Ontario Canada
Oh wow! Thats expensive!😭
What size boards
Price for bags of dirt $450
ROFL 🤣 it’s not that bad!

What do u call those types of bricks?
Retaining wall bricks. Thank you for the comment.😊
What’s the name of those corner brick??
They are "Retaining Wall Blocks" I put a link in the pinned comment. Thank you fo rwatching 😊
What about the fill tho?
It kinda looks like the garden bricks are double stacked. Did you use 4 or 8 garden bricks?
She said she used 8 bricks
Can I do this on concrete?
Yes, absolutely. Most plant roots will grow into the ground as well though. They need a lot of room!
Can you make it taller?
yes you can. you can go up to 3 bricks tall if I recall (from the website). So that would make the bed 17" tall above ground level. Thank you for watching 🥰
Have those dog eared boards warped at all?
So question why untreated boards
Because we don’t want the chemicals from treated boards leaching into our food.😳
“30 minutes of your time“???!😂 Which segment of the process would you be talking about?? 😅
From the time we started building until it was finished...being built. Thank you for watching
Where did u buy those corners?
home depot have them
We bought these at Lowe's, but Home Depot also has them. I have links in the description.😎 Thanks for watching! 😊
Thank you so much for helping out! and Thank You for watching! 🥰
These blocks cost $60 alone for 8 blocks. How did you buy them so cheap?!
A raised garden bed for under $50 is a bucket 🪣 of dirt.
Bro, that took you 30 minutes how
True story. The time it took to build the bed was 30 minutes. Obviously that doesn't include the trip to the hardware store. Thanks for watching
Why would you pay $46 when you can just go by a planter that is made out of aluminum that is the same same size for $40 flat from Home Depot
Lots of different options. People may not like the look of metal!🤷♀️
I’m building multiple raised beds from cedar pickets as well. If you either line the inner walls with fabric or use a vegetable garden wood sealer, it’ll preserve the wood for many more years 😁
Interesting. Thanks for watching 😊
The bed is cheap, the dirt is pricy 😂
Yes, it can be!

are the boards still able to rot? :(
Yes, just not as fast as pine would.
The wood alone is around $130.00.

Not the wood in this video. They are cedar fence pickets, which are cheap in the south. Up north I believe the oak or pine is cheaper (been a while since I looked). Thanks for watching.

I wish people would stop advocating paper and cardboard which are filled with carcinogenic PFAS chemicals and are known to be drawn into plants.
Yeah, I know that now. Didn’t realize that at the time. I won’t be using cardboard in the garden again.🙁
