      Had to give you a thumbs up just for this wonderful pinned post with time stamped index. This is how compilations videos were done before UA-camrs gots the stupid. Now they not only don't do that, they do movie/show reviews without telling you what they are reviewing so you can't look it up.
      That being said I have a problem with the fire from the sky segment. You tell us that there is a lame explanation for how Rage survived but don't tell us what it is.
      Also the Easter Island episode you didn't point out the obvious plot hole or tell us if the idiot scriptwriters resolved it. If the missing link died immediately after creation then why do we exist.?

      @@bentonmarcum8924 Hey! Sorry it took me 8 months (!) to get to this comment, but somehow it got burried...
      1) Thank you for your thumbs up. I appreciate it greately!
      2) I'm a devotee of clarity and structure, so time stamped index just makes sense to me.
      3) If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I saw that episode) the lame explanation for how Rage survived is in the clip I present. It's basically: "I didn't die. I live". It's sooo Palpatine in Rise of Skywalker...
      4) You are right. That is a silly plothole. If I ever get to discuss that episode in my Quest for Quest series, I will definitely mention that. My idea behind this video was to comment on the death scenes, not really the episodes, so that's my excuse. But yeah, you're making a good point.

    Do you know what's even more HORRIFYING? The concept of a Jonny Quest sequel/reboot "updated for modern audiences". Imagine this: the original series was released in the 1960s, and The Real Adventures is from the 1990s. Shouldn't we expect a new show in the 2020s?

      @@KlaxontheImpailr Exactly. In more ways than one. The Jonny Quest franchise has always been pretty serious. The Venture Bros took basically the same premise for a show but satirized it brilliantly (at least the first few seasons were brilliant in my opinion). So a Jonny Quest reboot couldn't really be serious, but it also couldn't be funny and meta, because that's what The Venture Bros already is.

    Just so you know, your number 3 didn’t die. It’s explained that he was eventually dug out of the entombed wall, but by that point his mind was a mess. It was appropriate, since the man wasn’t directly responsible for the woman’s death but kept the truth of her death hidden and attempted to kill Johnny, Jessie, and the descendant of the ghost.

    The death from In the Wake of the Mary Celeste reminds me of a few things. 1.) that primeval, cosmic kind of inexplicable horror, 2.) the Loc-Nar from the Heavy Metal film, and 3.) a tv movie called The Stone Tape. The latter two kind of tie into the first, both being ancient entities humanity is capable of controlling (except for that ending in Heavy Metal, but you get what I mean).

    I remember a GQ episode... I think the title was "Less Than Zero"... where Johnny, Race, and Hadji go to a haunted Italian castle. A pair of would-be "ghostbusters" are there t show off their ghost repelling technology, banking on the Quest family name attracting financiers, both to help improve their so-so- equipment as well as to enrich themselves. They wind up in a "The Walls are Closing In" room (well, ceiling actually), and while the resultant carnage isn't shown other than Race's disgusted look when he opens the door and checks inside, their terrified looks and screams shown before the POV moves away were quite unsettling.

The type of ghost you listed as number 1 is what's called a "Death Echo", it's when they are cursed to re-enact their deaths over and over again due to the emotional shock. Still you make an interesting point considering they could have set Haunted Sonata anywhere in central Europe and gotten the same effect. Probably just a choice as an excuse to bring back the Prime Minster character, as a reasonable location the Jonny and Jessie to be by themselves without any other main characters with them (something I'll always commend American animated shows on. Anime is already unafraid to do different kind of stories with smaller groups of it's main cast, and I'm happy to see American shows try it as well. Another one which stands out to me is the one where the gang investigates another haunted mansion (in Paris or something I think,) and the two scientists helping them are thrown into a room and crushed by a lowered stone ceiling. As with many of the deaths, you don't explicitly see it, but Race remarks after the incident how the gang is better off than "these two poor guys," or something.

    10) That was just crazy. They could have said that she lost 20 years of her life working on this facility and needed something out of it other than shame and regret;
    9) Very very dramatic but I like to think Rage escaped but lost a leg and an arm;
    8) This episode was probably one of the most memorable. The story however is a bit weak... and clichee but the death is horrifying because the priest could have stopped it but didn't.
    7) I have no idea why you think that the hunter was anything other than a faker. Being a hunter is anout being stealthy and finding stealthy beasts. The fact that the fool didn't bring close range (fire)arms says volumes aboit how inexperienced he was. Also Shades?! In the middle of the night!?!
    6) This death is not as ridiculius as you think. The alien could have been there of his own choice and against his own people' law of interfeering with natural evolution. So he choose this remote area that was about tobe destroyed by the active Volcano to experiment on an ape and cover his tracks. But he didn' expect the volcano to errupt so soon.
    5) we discover that the sinking of the ships the first mate survived and wrote about it. So the aliens just want the gold. Everything else is inconsequential.
    4) s strange that they aurvived long enough to make a cure but not long enough to save themselves;
    3) It was stated at the end of the episode that they dug the guy out but he lost his sanity being traumatized by the event.
    2) Salim fell from that height and survived and tried to jump to safety. So it was not a fall death unless he fell head first;
    1) That is a weird death. Why not a haunting? Also why is the Lady running to throw herself but was actually pushed ?! It makes no sense.
    This is a weird circle of death and revenge.

    I understand your number one but personally I think the one with haji's cousin will have more impact. Its literally a 'reap what you sow' kind of deal as the servant attempted to grab his leg and showed us, the audience, the horrors of what awaits him! Also with that being said, I'm surprised you didn't mention the following with a ghost episode; The Ghost Snapped the neck of the Butler / assistant before attacking and dragging the villain into that wall. On top of that they later said that he was screaming Madness so he clearly survived. I will definitely say the real Adventures of Jonny Quest definitely continue the traditions of the original show as there were many many gruesome deaths and villains receiving they're just desserts. I do kind of wish you could have covered the living supercomputer as well as that is a nightmarish yet amazing episode at the same time!😂

      @@MarkPiccolo you're saying Young Justice, Invader Zim, and Avatar the Last Airbender has crap animation? Besides, wasn't your argument that modern shows are bad because they're PC and sugarcoat things? It seems you're stuck in a nostalgia hole. A lot of those shows everyone remembers were the exception to the crap they usually put on TV at the time. And I'd also like to point out that the most acclaimed shows from the 90's that everyone still talks about, like Batman TAS, were very PC and sugarcoated things like death which seldom occurred. Batman TAS also stood out BECAUSE of its quality animation and deeper stories where most animation at that time was still relatively cheap with meaningless mind numbing stories to push toy lines. Nowadays cartoons have to follow different types of censorship and heavy studio mandates. Since the advent and proliferation of CG, 3D and things like flash, animation has become cheaper, and so has its look. Which is why things are usually stylized, like adventure time, regular show, gumball, or mlp to fit the new ways things are animated. But besides that, gumball is a marvel of animation if you actually saw it. Instead of staying in your nostalgia hole, try to expand and look at the great shows that have existed through the 2000's, the 2010's and what's currently being made, like Kipo, samurai jack, over the garden wall, Castlevania, and Hilda. Animators nowadays have a lot more freedom to tell stories because of streaming and they take advantage of that.

    God damn this show was fucking awesome! Definitely one of the greatest American action shows ever underrated has hell and sadly a forgotten gem. The creativity alone to the plots was fantastic and unique in its own right and no show has come close to it in like 20 years.
    Such a shame it's so obscure and only got 2 seasons. Seriously I've got all of the episodes burned into my mind despite me not seeing it for over 20 years that's how memorable it was! Sure it may have been due to reruns but still.
    Also the guy buried in the wall lived he just went crazy I believe this was stated at the end of the episode.
    And let's face it it would've been really really fucked up if they just left him there...

      It has been pointed out to me before that the guy buried in the wall did survive. I really messed that up, yeah. Still that's a horrible way to go.
      Honestly, him surviving sounds like something ad-libbed late in the game, because an executive complained. The whole episode is hardcore as it is. It featues a woman being thrown down the stairs and then buried in a wall! And that's not sugarcoated.

    Few things. I do like that you say you aren't objective about this, there's no way to be. I've gotten into arguments about this very thing, though it was less "what is more brutal" and more "what is worse". I always say the best way to die is the quickest and least painful, so I choose shotgun mouthwash and that really seems to disturb people. "But that's so over the top and messy!" "I'll be dead why would I care?!"
    10. I actually did miss it on my first viewing. I was wondering where she went.
    9: Ezekial Rage was amazing. A well written even sympathetic villain when you realize what the feds did to his family. They'd never write a character like that again in a million years, unless it was a bunch of racist cops and he was black.
    8. Never saw this one. But that would make a great reaction image next time someone posts something gross in my friend circles.
    7. Asking for it? By trying to put down a tiger running around a city killing people? I think you mean he was probably more prepared to die than its other victims.
    4. This one really bothered me actually. The idea of rapid aging or withering away is just under used enough that when it does show its face it always gets a reaction, and I think this or the episode where the man wishes for immortality but doesn't get eternal youth bundled with it was my first exposure.
    3. This concept was first introduced to me by Edgar Allen Poe though, getting bricked in. Very high up on the list of worst ways to go, trapped in a wall or cave always bothers me. I'd say the ghost was less an animal and more a protozoa.
    2. idontdosnakesidontdosnakesidontdosnakesidontdosnakesidontdosnakesidontdosnakes
    1. Well if you think that is scary you should look up the common religious concept of hell. Because that is what this is.
    Rather than argue this list though or make my own I think I'd like to just mention the original series and how horrifically out of place it was in the 60s compared to most other cartoons, even action cartoons. A pulp comic come to life. Lots of brutal deaths there, the Yeti episode actually scared me when I saw it as a toddler, Zen's spider robot electrocuting the soldier, the mummy dragging a guy back to his crypt to entomb him, the fighter pilot's plane catching on fire before he crashed and giving him plenty of time to burn alive, guys thrown into acid and lava...
    But the one that always bothered me was the komodo dragon episode, after establishing that komodos will eat people while they are still alive. The main villain has this big henchman that Race managed to best in hand to hand combat. After they escape he's whipping and scolding him, and finally the big guy has enough. Takes the whip from him, picks him up as he is screaming for mercy, casually walks over to a pit they are keeping komodos in and chunks him in. As he screams and you hear bones snapping and flesh tearing (or was that my child imagination?) the big guy stands at the top of the pit laughing at him.
    I was genuinely horrified, even as a kid in the 90s watching reruns of the show it absolutely messed with me and gave me nightmares. Maybe it is because I saw it before Real Adventures, but it is the only one to do that.

      Thank you for such an insightful comment. I appreciate it a lot!
      To address at least few of your points...
      1) English is not my native tongue. That's why my wording can sometimes be imprecise or just weird.
      2) Ezekiel Rage was indeed a great villain. I've always liked his creepy design and his tragic backstory. He was basically trying to start the Apocalypse because of the death of his family. This show had several villains of similar caliber, Surd being my favorite.
      3) The show's writers drew inspiration from various sources, including literature. I'm sure they read Poe's "The Rats in the Walls", although I myself know the concept of immurement from medieval history.
      4) There are many different visions/depictions of hell, but each and every one addresses man's worst fears. The idea of re-living one's death/murder every night for eternity is definitely hellish.
      5) For some weird reason I never caught reruns of the OG Jonny Quest as a kid. Cartoon Netword never aired them in my part of the world. I saw them only in my 30s. That was an exceptional cartoon, indeed, but I don't have nostalgia for it. Unlike the Real Adventures which I grew up watching. Anyway, check out the Jonny Quest documentary, which is on UA-cam.

      @@Land_Far_Away I less make points and more just type up incoherent rambling haha
      Rage left a huge impression. I was raised in an evangelical Christian home so my mother overheard him and didn't like it. Still let me watch but was sure to say "this isn't how a Christian behaves". But when they found the 'book of rage' and it was a family photo album she caught that too. "What?" "The government did in his family" "Oh."
      It was like a switch flipped for her, where he was a propagandic caricature before he was now sympathetic and an example of how things can escalate out of control in a cycle of revenge. Ezekiel was still a monster, but one that was created rather than born.
      It was such a mind blowing moment, something you never forget.
      OG Quest is helped a lot by comparing it to its contemporaries. Just in an era of Cartoon Network before they tried to compete with Nicktoons and all these reruns from the 50s, 60s and 70s it really stood out. I think the one that came closest to it was Space Ghost, and even it never got the grit down right.
      When I first saw it in the early 90s it even managed to give the cartoons of that era a run for their money. The Batman Animated series was very adult, but couldn't quite get away with that level of violence even if it was way better animated. The only one I remember even coming close before Real Adventures was Mighty Max.
      Sadly it was still a product of its time, and even with all their creativity it never could quite overcome the curse of limited animation.

    • @Land_Far_Away

      Well, one person's ramblings are another person's gripping read.
      Thanks for sharing your story. You don't expect any complexity in cartoon villains. 99% of the time they're doing the evil thing just for the sake of being evil. Meanwhile The Real Adventures really had a neck for villains with interesting agenda, or a tragic backstory. Also, so many of them met their end before the show was cancelled.
      My dad caught few episodes of The Real Adventures with me. We definitely watched the werewolf one together. I remember him being pretty surprised how "adult-oriented" the show was. Oh, and the werewolf was another sympathetic villain.
      I lived through the 90s never realizing how exceptional decade that was, including the animation. There were so many gems! I just wish The Real Adventures and Pirates of Dark Water would finally get some recognition from wider public.

      @@Land_Far_Away At least Real Adventures and even Mighty Max were concluded. Pirates never was.
      I will say Mighty Max also had a werewolf episode, where one werewolf was kind of a cerberus. I don't remember much about it past the three headed one, an old man looking for his cat being killed, and that I think it and the Real Adventures episode got mixed up in my head. I used to think the three headed werewolf came from the 90s Johnny Quest, weird how old memories can do that sometimes.
