I don't care if some others don't like or agree with any or all of the songs in that list, but to me, there were some really great bangers on that list. All the music I grew up with in the 80's. Such a nostalgia trip for me, I loved it. And it's nice to see someone from overseas who appreciates and enjoys a lot of our Aussie music, as well. Whether you knew the songs already or you didn't, but you liked the tune anyway, pretty cool. Thanks for sharing that video and your opinions on it. 😁👍❤
Funkytown was originally recorded by Lipps Inc in 1979, reaching #1 in 28 countries. Pseudo Eco released their cover in 1987, reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 international US; and #8 on the UK Singles chart.
Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan gained popularity from starring in the Australian Soap Drama "Neighbours"; after moving to England, they successful singing career. Rick Springfield besides putting out his own songs, also wrote songs for Olivia Newton-John.
Jason Donavon played Scott Robinson which in Neighbors was getting to Charlene Robinson which was Kylie Minogue character who in the biggest wedding at that stage walked down the aisle as her character was put into a wheelchair. Plus the song they used became so big that used at lots weddings after that. This is a clip with the song Angry Anderson - Suddenly- Neighbours Scott & Charlene's Wedding (July '87-Oz, Nov '88- UK/Eire).mp4
You didn't note that John Farnham was also in two of the LRB (Little River Band) clips. John was their frontman in the band in the early 80s, before resuming his solo career.
Olivia Newton-John was English but grew up in Australia. She was huge in the Country and Western charts in the US in the early 70's then she transitioned to pop
Also most our biggest singer or actor/actress start in 2 biggest soap drama which is Neighbours or Home and Away which Chis Hemsworth and Maggie Robbie was both in Home and Away.
@@jemxs I meant put in the Neighbours but click down on me I didn't know until now bloody keyboard me typing when tired the other female was Isla Fisher in Home and away.

Funky Town was a cover by Psuedo Echo. I can't remember who sang the original but it was an American. Cold Chisel is our greatest all time band over INXS & ACCA DACCA, check out some of their songs, they're pub rock at it's finest. Great Southern Land is another song to check out by Icehouse but with the This Is Australia clip. Our Aussie cricket team use that song to walk out onto the field at the beginning of each session, batting or bowling & being at the ground hearing that play as they walk out has brought a tear to my eye a few times with the goosebumps
Ha Olivia Newton John American she was actually born in England but migrated to Australia with her Parents when she was a child. Xanado was a movie she made after Grease ELO and Gene Kelly did most of the male songs. Jason Donovan played Kylie's boy friend on nabours, did some pop songs then did alot in the West End. It's pronounced In excess not I Nexs.
Funnily enough Olivia Newton-John is BRITISH born and naturalised Australian citizen. John Farnham is also BRITISH born and naturalised Australian. AC/DC are also BRITISH born Naturalised Australians. Brian Johnson their lead singer is a Geordie. Jimmy Barnes is BRITISH born and naturalised Australian.
John Farnham should be number one. He is the best Aussie singer of all time. I need clarification as to why Jason Donovan is on here. He only had a hit here if he sang with Kylie. And it was just a teenager's romantic song. Not very good. All the songs that are shown here were duds. All of them. Just saying. Icehouse are wonderful. Check them out. I've seen them many times over the last few years, and Iva Davies can still sing. His voice is awesome.
Jason did actually have 5 Top 40 hits in Australia, from my recollection. 'Too Many Broken Hearts', 'Nothing Can Divide Us', 'Sealed With a Kiss' and 'Rythm of the Rain' as well as his duet with Kylie. But he was much bigger in the UK with his music, along with his tv and theatre work. Hence why he ended up spending so many years living over there from the late 80's onwards.
If you really want an overview of the Australian music scene, then l recommend you react to The Top 150 Australian Bands and Singers. It's not an overly long video, maybe around 15 minutes.
Olivia Newton John is definitely Aussie! They made Sandy in Grease Australian so she didn't have to put on an American accent. Also Xanadu is the other movie she did with john Travolta!
WHY should anyone be told to ignore it. Not everyone has to agree with each other's taste in music, and that's ok. It's what makes us all unique. If you think your taste in music is better, then feel free to create your own compilation and upload it.
@@JohnM-yl7ly Yes, Split Enz split up entirely. But it was simply Neil on his own that later met Nick Seymour (originally from Benalla) and Paul Hester (from Melbourne) and they created the band Crowded House in Melbourne.
Why would you be surprised that ONJ is Aussie "cause she's an extremely famous actress" seriously mate - look at famous Australian actors, are you going to be surprised about that too?
TBH, I truly didn't think he had that many songs out. He went to England fairly early on so maybe a lot of them just never made it back here, thank god.
I think many people, including mark here, would be very surprised to learn how many of the songs he happens to like that were not actually written by the person who sung them, either. But hey, not everyone would agree with mark's taste in music, either. 🤷♀
