I love this video. You came across clear and concise and I now understand how to close the ring - I have seen other videos with other people and they go too fast to see how to do this. You are going at the right speed so we can actually see what you are doing and it is great! Thank you. I look forward to seeing the rest of your videos and you work is lovely! Thank you again for showing us how to do this fantastic craft.
You did a great job. I haven't even started yet, but am a long time knitter/crocheter. My Great Grandmom was the last in my family to tat, so I'm eager to learn. Thanks for being brave and showing us how!
oh my god you have to be one of the best teachers I've seen on youtube no joke. I've been struggling to learn tatting for a week now, and this is the only one that actually taught me to make my first ring. Keep up the good work!!
New subscriber. I accidentally found your video I am trying to learn how to tat. I injured my hand in a terrible car crash and I think this is great therapy plus it seems fun and rewarding. I had a hard time with other people's tutorials but you were easy to follow. Please make more. My circles are no where near perfect but when they are I want to learn more from you. Your mom should be proud. By the way I'm 62 and always wanted to learn this, thanks!
Thanks so much for showing us how to close the ring!! I have watched several other tatting vids and they all seem to go thru this point so fast! I was getting frustrated enough that I thought of throwing in the towel on the whole thing! Thank you again and I hope you keep on doing more tutorials! Keep it simple for the rest of us "Granny's".....
Thankyou SO much!! You shouldent feel silly talking to the camera you were very good! You have just set alight my desire to Tattler!! I recently taught myself how to crochet, which I love!...but THIS!!! Great!! Thankyou for taking the time to make this video, you have taught me to do this craft!!
Love it...I started reading books on this and was lost. They did not give you the explanations for their abbreviations you did a great job and there is no reason to apologize for anything..Keep up the good work and making video's for "us" that are visual learners..You go GIRL
I've always wanted to tat and just never could find clear enough instructions...your video made complete sense to me and now I know I will be able to tat and show the ladies in my group how to get started.
I like the fact that you actually demonstrate the beginning steps unlike some other videos that I have watched on this topic. I LOVE the fact that you pronounce picot correctly. You could be a little less wordy, but other than that, great job! I don't think I could do any better. I have a tip for you regarding threading, keep some crazy glue or similar instantly drying adhesive and a small piece of cardboard, printer paper, etc. Place a dab of the glue in the fold, then drag the end of your thread through the glue, while holding the fold tightly, let it dry, and feed it right through the eye. It also works well for picking up beads without a needle, as the glued end serves as the needle. Good luck and keep making the videos, they are so helpful. You will improve with more practice. Thank you!
i'm with ChaosSpage - this is the most clear video i have seen - they all spend time on the ds and kind of gloss over how to slide the stitches and close the ring - i love this instructable (?) thank you so much
Great video! Next semester, I will be sharing this with my new High School class, Dec Arts. I have never tatted, but I will be starting my first project today... "See one, do one, teach one... Thank you!
Tatting "seems" easy, but explain it to who's trying to learn it's difficult. Congratulations, I´m sure it´s now I´ll start tatting! Keep going... Making a video is like talking in public or teaching a lesson: you're getting better as long as you keep trying. Thank you very much to share this video.
First of all, you did great. On my needle tatting I do use the standard tatting needles, but I found that the doll needles (which can run really long) will work as well. I love the way you made certain that we could see exactly what you are doing.
Loved your video, you did great! Instructions are very clear. For some reason I stopped tatting ( I only tried it a few times) you have inspired me to try it again and stay with it until I get good at it. Thanks! Keep up he good work.
I really like your tutorial. Thank you :) I have a good tip to avoid frustration when threading a needle. No wax or anything like that needed. Fold the thread over the tip of the needle making a loop, pull the loop off the needle and hold onto it tightly between forefinger and thumb, so that only a little of the loop is showing ( don't tie a knot or anything just a simple u shape over the needle). Then put the loop into the eye of your needle, and it's much easier to thread than trying to poke the end of the thread into the eye of your needle. As long as you get a little of the look into the eye you can pull it through the other side. A tip from my grandma :)
Just came across your video and for a "first" you have done better than the many I have watched. I am a new subscriber as well and VERY new to needle tatting....dee
Thanks for that it was cool, I made two vids, well one and a slide show really for some friends who wanted me to show some of my creations... that was bad enough, now I've been asked to do a tut, but don't think that's a good idea lol ... You did great, and it's good that you just talked naturally throughout.... you've probably done tons of vids now but this is the first one I found, you made it easy to understand and follow. Many thanks :) Hevs x
Hi everybody! Its been quite a long time since I've been able to log in, and let me tell you how good it felt to read all the positive feedback over these two years!! The loss of my camcorder made it difficult to keep loading videos but I'm finally getting a new one this month. So.. as promised... more coming soon.
I loved your video. You did a great job. Where do I find your other videos? I have never tryed tatting, but you made it look easy. Not sure how you did the bracelet, putting it all together. I love the humor you used in this video as well.
You don't sound like a dork, only when you keep saying you sound like a dork! lol! No seriously, great job, the other 'more professional one's (videos) go either too fast at the important times, or they just don't get that it beginner means simple. I've had to go over and over these videos to try and get those parts of the directions I needed, and having to repeat them time and time again. In the end I gave up and looked for something really simple...... yours! Also I think it's great that you are truly innovative (like me :P) and you are willing to use all types of yarn......... good job granny! love it
Please make more videos. As a teacher, I know that you should always assume that your students know nothing about what you are teaching. Most videos assume that we know something. I know nothing about tatting. You show and explain every step. You would make a great teacher.
@ElTeeandthetatters Can you show how to do 'self closing mock rings'? Is there such a thing in needle tatting or is it just used with shuttles? So much to learn.
Lady, you need to relax!! Brilliant tutorial, clear and slow. Yeah maybe you do waffle a bit, but you're entitled to do so as its your first vid, not many people have the b*lls to do one. Keep up the great work, I have just bought my needles, already have thread as i crochet, i can't wait to get started.
@spydaz314 I think for needle tatting it would be the same as a thrown off ring. For some reason though, shuttle tatting is much neater/cleaner looking for certain techniques, and I think the mock ring is one of them. It could be just me though, all my thrown off rings are always kinda messy. but I will make that video next, hopefully I will not lead you astray!!
Hi! Good vid,.. one constructive criticism.. 'Get to the point'. this vid could have been half the time. I know it was your first and again, good job. but keep in mind, as people are learning,.. they are holding this thin yarn and needle in funky positions while listening to you ramble a little to long. SO not trying to sound mean! Just helpful :)

Love your instructions....it feels like getting a lesson from a good friend....
You did great! Please do more beginner videos like this. I love it!
The pants thing really helped me understand how to tat! Thanks so much!!

please come back! Your videos are very informative and I'd love to learn more form you :)
I loved your video. You did a great job. Where do I find your other videos?
I have never tryed tatting, but you made it look easy. Not sure how you did the
bracelet, putting it all together. I love the humor you used in this video as well.

This was a great video thanks for sharing. Can you please do a video of the bracelet your wearing please
LOL I love it! Don't change a thing... It makes you human. Now I'm hooked and want to know how to make more rings and chains joining. :)
Please make more videos. As a teacher, I know that you should always assume that your students know nothing about what you are teaching. Most videos assume that we know something. I know nothing about tatting. You show and explain every step. You would make a great teacher.
Great instructions! Those scissors loook
Enjoyed your video! Good work.
What video editing program did you use? Anyway, good job on the tutorial and you make it look easy. Where did you get those scissors? :-)
