Absolutely love seeing beatbox being covered on here. If it weren't for beatbox, I may have never gotten into making music. It was a versatile instrument I could keep with me, even when I had nowhere to go, and that slowly evolved into a love of general music making

You know, same! My journeys gone nearly every direction since then, but in 8th grade i was lucky enough to take a hip hop class after school. We did all the subjects, from the history of the music, graffiti, and dance, and then to beatboxing and rhyming. The graffiti grabbed me first, i came from an artist family but i never had much talent for drawing objects or people or anything, but I excelled at patterns and shapes and abstract stuff, so graffiti was a galaxy-brain moment. Then when we got to the beatboxing and same thing I had music all around me but i struggled to sing, play guitar, etc. After Learning to beatbox i got into audio production, eventually playing bass, then rapping and singing. Its a deeply inspiring practice, when you are alone, it can almost be someone to talk to, and the whole time they are just telling you "music is amazing".

That's the beauty of the vocal instrument: it's always with you, you don't need to buy any extra gear to play it, and it'll never get destroyed by baggage handlers.

Like one's voice, the apparatus of "beatbox" cannot be taken away.

This is just the tip of the iceberg for beatbox. It’s such an underrated art form.

The genius of human beings is unfathomable. Hip-hop is a singular expression of that genius.

BRO. So stoked to see Carnage the Executioner in one of your videos right after the P.O.S./Doomtree mention in the last video. It's like you've been browsing my music library lately for video ideas. I absolutely love this channel and I'm so glad to see you bringing attention to incredible artists like Carnage (who is also a god-tier rapper).

Some years ago, when I was still making and producing music, a local rapper wanted me to mix his track that featured a beatboxer along with a usual digitally-made beat. I had a really hard time mixing that down because making sure that the rapper and the beatboxer don't compete for spectral space was difficult. As much range as the human voice has, it still occupies a fairly modest part of the full hearable range. I think if there was more content on how to mix down beatboxing with more conventional vocals, along with both acoustic and digitally-made elements, we'd be hearing even more beatboxing out there.

The Poofster has a pretty accessible tutorial about mixing beatbox vocals; for more hands-on advice though, I'd check some of the mixers in the elite beatbox realm. If you look up the BBU competition, a portion of the judging was based on the actual sound quality of the mix, so it's a good place to look and ask people via the credits for these tracks. Hope this helps!

Great video! This was a lot of fun to learn about - I admit my own familiarity here is WAY different, mostly from all the Pentatonix tracks I've listened to... But I love the improvisational nature of beatboxing, and I really think it puts a huge light on just how versatile and wonderful our own bodies are as instruments. Even in difficult situations we can find an outlet for creativity, and a path to self expression and joy. And there's SO MUCH power in the snatching of something awesome despite everything being stacked against you.

It's when I saw some old clip from beardyman (not the kitchen one) where he did some amazing stuff that I truly understood great beatboxing is and how versatile making music can be. Not that I beatbox myself, but I love to record real life sounds, like recording noise from a construction yard, to use when I make music.

There should be beatbox + rap battle team ups with 1 rapper and 1 beat boxer one one side and then another rapper and beatboxer on the other

I don't know if you're interested in facilitating collaborations between proponents of different musical traditions, but Indian classical percussionists have their own beatboxing traditions called konnakol and bol, for vocalising the extremely complex rhythms that they use. It would be really cool to see you bring together those beatboxers and hip-hop beatboxers, to see what they can learn from each other and create together.

4:35 YEAH !!!! I can do that too. Cool !!!!
infact... I probably should record my own samples since these type of sounds are pretty much unique and individual from person to person and cannot be reproduced by any instrument ... or mouth!

Yo im a lil late but im so psyched to see this as a beatboxer myself. I agree that the greatest thing about beatboxing is that your able to express yourself musically anywhere you are. I also agree with bros that while beatboxing has expanded beyond making Hip Hop beats with your mouth it is still an element of Hip Hop Culture. Keep up the good work yall your next video should be about scratching and turntablism

No mention of Grandmaster Flash's Vox Percussion King "beatbox"? It's the drum machine that really became known as the "beatbox" in the '70s, the 808 didn't even exist yet. Percussion King also sounded the most like early human beatboxing.

It's a little weird that you guys changed the thumbnail to someone who isn't beatboxing. What? Did the thumbnail of the asian American beatboxer not do well? Oh how can I tell? The person is holding the mic wrong for beatbox. I get changing the thumbnail periodically but why take Gene out of the thumbnail when hes one of the beatboxers you guys interviewed for a stock photo?
Edit: it looks like they fixed it and put Napom and Kenny on the cover. Not sure if it’s bc of this comment or social guys really upping his game. Either way, appreciated 👍
