      Sunwell during TBC was the pinnacle of WoW PvE. Patch 3.0.2 destroyed everything PvE.
      The population peak was in Wrath following the publicity and success of TBC. After Wrath failed due to accessible easy-mode raiding, comprising multiple difficulties of the same diluted content, subscriptions declined. When they failed to fix anything in Cata. they declined even more. Then MoP hit and the game fell back to Vanilla subscription numbers.

    • @Atro785
      @Atro785 9 років тому +32

      ***** I'm not entirely sure I subscribe to all of those beliefs. Mainly because subscription numbers continued to rise during Wrath, not just at the start. Well into it's release they rose. Personally, I think there are a ton of factors to consider and it would be impossible to pinpoint all of the reasons why what happened, happened. There are some points that are fairly obvious though and arguments can easily be made for, such as those pointed out in your post.
      A lot of things are subjective though. For me personally, nothing and I do bloody well mean NOTHING will ever come close to Wrath. Not even remotely. The ambiance, the scenery, the music (oh god the music), the lore, the story lines that were continued upon, the ones that were tied up, the ones we were introduced to, the characters we lost, the ones we found still alive and had a reacquainting with, my class being not broken for the first time in the history of the game and feeling like it was meant to in the first place, and yes even the instances and raids because they were unique and fun and inventive (yes I know they became stupid easy once everyone overgeared them, but the 3 Icecrown heroics were NOT easy and the raids were not easy on hard mode. Not until you got a bunch of people geared out). So many damn things. I miss it so much.

      ***** I think that if 3.0.2 had been a bit more ''accessible'' it would have been better, the kara key grind was absurd. But I didn't really play long during BC anyway.

    This raid purely had a feeling of epicness to it in every sense of the word. You were going into unexplored territory as the brawn, the vanguard for a league of explorers, trespassing and exploring a sanctum for the creators of the world you live in, the Titans. You killed a monalithic tank while riding many siege weapons of all shapes and sizes, and pierced into the heart of a kingdom of clandestine origin. After going through the hardships of purifying titanic guardians, and killing the ominous monstrosity from the pit below you, if lucky and proven, you were able to find and do battle with the Herald of the Titans himself, to prove that the corruption the Old Gods carry over Azeroth does not outway the courageousness and spirit that each race of the planet holds. This was by far my favorite raid of WoW, period. And to this day while I still take large breaks from WoW, I still hope they can create a storyline inside a raid that will give you the feeling, the goosebumps, the welling sensation of success and wonder going from boss to boss, that this raid did. While there are some that could considered as close 2nd's or ties, this raid still holds the title of my favorite raid in WoW.

    • @metaknight281
      @metaknight281 4 роки тому +5

      Yeah back when not everything was about saving the fucking planet or even the whole universe. WoW was the greatest RPG because it truly let you immerse yourself in it and live in it. You used to be one of many. just an adventurer and not freakin god himself.I miss living in a fucking normal world which has its own little problems here and there but nobody truly knew what was going on... Just day to day living and not fighting all the time!

    • @toxendon
      @toxendon 3 роки тому +4

      @@metaknight281 Weeeell to be fair Ulduar was kinda about saving the planet tho, and same with fighting the Scourge. I don't think the problem is the enemies we face or the setting, the problem is how things are being told and the tone it's being told in. Like Shadowlands would be fucking EPIC if it was made by the same people who made WOTLK if they were at the exact same point in their creative process. The problem is that WOTLK was amazing and heavily atmospheric, and most of the higher threats were kind of just implied instead of fully shown and explored. Nowadays WoW is basically a netflix show giving fanservice and making the game in the same way one would make a soap opera set in fantasy setting, but with the writing of a tumblr fanfic page. You can notice this in the music too. The music in newer expantions is very good, but it's composed like it's made for a TV show or a movie rather than an atmosphere you can abide in for hours.

      I always imagined this part is when Yogg'Saron prepares to break free from his prison, and the grandess of the Titans that are ultimately failing to keep him ceilied, is just something that happens in the background (hence why the eerie and spooky element is in the focus of this part while the Titans' theme is just in the background)

      @Y.Moroboshi Рік тому +5

      @@ggoblet2960 I think it's the only good character arc for a race in the whole of WoW's history. The dwarves started WoW looking into their origins, and by the time Ulduar was discovered they found their answers. I wish that level of care had been given to the night elves (who had their major sacrifice at the end of Warcraft 3 undone because feelgoods was more important). Thalassian elves became an outright mess lorewise. Everyone else remained static until around Legion (the draenei got their resolution, even if it squandered Argus by making it a final act zone instead of the topic of a whole expansion).
      So yeah, the dwarves won the lottery.

The Titans lived on in the legends of the dwarfs for thousands of years. When Ulduar was discovered it became clear that the stories were true. Now the dwarfs seem to honor their heritage more than ever before.

    My first real expansion was Mists, but I still feel the echoes of WotLK all across WoW. When I go through these raids and solo them, it doesn't give me anything near the experience you get from actual raiding but it gives me enough of it to know this was a truly incredible expansion.
    Personally, my heart belongs to Warlords of Draenor -- the first expansion I truly devoted myself to. But I'll always regret that I started WoW too late.

      Lunion Starborn "The echoes of WotLK..." What a lovely metaphor. Worthy of a reply.
      Yes, you did miss out on a great deal. In fact, I was sworn to WoW and never believed I'd actually stop playing indefinitely, but WoD did it for me.
      You have no idea - you can't even imagine it.
      Having to look for people in Trade to do your daily heroic (which was a daily quest in Dalaran).
      LFR didn't exist, meaning that every time you reached a boss, it was the first actual time you stood before them - an unprecedented feeling of epicness, knowing you're probably a part of the 1% to ever actually get to SEE that boss.
      Treading into the Howling Fjord and Borean Tundra for the first time. And the Lich King's unmistakable, unshakable presence. In every quest, every undead, everything.
      The actual sense of achievement when you got your flying mount.
      The feeling of progression as you went from zone to zone and the atmosphere got more and more morbid, the undead grew greater in both numbers and power, until you reached the heart of Icecrown Citadel.
      The Storm Peaks with their goosebump-inducing music and atmosphere (Mountains of Thunder. UA-cam the song.)
      How raids were actually a progression, a step towards the Lich King (Ulduar being a necessary, brilliantly fleshed out exception). Trial of the Crusader was a preparation for the assault on Icecrown, so on.
      Brother, you truly have no idea.

      You can just download a free client and play on a private server tho... It truly is a whole different experience. Also, if you are used to mists, and wod levelling, levelling in pre-cata Azeroth is alot less linear and has more of an adventure feel to it. Also the class are alot more diverse, which got kinda taken out with cata. Like, not all dps classes had their interrupt spell, buffs from two different classes werent the same, etc. Also on wotlk, in oppose to TBC (which is also magical, but in a different way), are mechanics involved in dungeons.
      And yeah, scenery, music, story, its just awesome. Try looking up Dalaran private server, i dont think you could ever regret it!
