BANGERTV - All Metal.. that is unfortunate. I applaud you on the show, but a lot of us had no idea about it until now. Would've expected you to leave some slots open considering you're in the earlier stages of viewership. Hoping the quality of players grows, or sadly there won't be a season 2.
I couldnt disagree more if I tried to, really. Love that theyre sticking to the one genre. I think the show is called Shredders of Metal brah. And yes the playing wasnt phenomenal but I think thats what theyre going for. Regular Joe kind of thing. Lastly, they should have left slots open? Ill be watching this for as long as they show it.
You're correct, but even if I were particularly fond of basing my scales around harmonic minor - which I am - I wouldn't describe my style as 'harmonic' because that would imply, in this context, the excessive use of harmonies, not an actual reference to a particular scale. That's what makes it so silly. Also, to continue playing devil's advocate against myself, one could easily argue that melody can exist in arpeggios passing from key to key if those key changes imply a melody of their own. When tastefully done, it can be quite brilliant, and is the basis for a lot of classical compositions - as well as a trademark approach of Malmsteen, whom you've brought up. The thing is, that requires tasteful use, whereas this genuinely felt more like arpeggio runs in random keys. Hence, not particularly melodic. He's trying to emulate a style that can be melodic, but in a very robotic way that misses the point entirely.
I dare not bad mouth any of thse guys as they had the balls to go through performing a peice knowing it was to be judged, Thats gotta be stressful AF. But honestly I felt pretty good about my own playing after watching this. #3 was definitely my favorite but again horns up to all these players for geetin up there while I fkn sit here at work wondering what I would or wouldnt play. BTW thanks Banger TV for a show like this for the shredders left in the world.
3 was definitely the better of them. You felt good, so you must be pretty good. Keep in mind some of them are a bit awkward. I can't believe, seeing the shredders available on UA-cam, they actually couldn't find, maybe more musical players. Like Stevie T, Dines, and on and on... there is a fourteen years old girl I imagine would of been available that plays circles around some of these players. I saw a comment about this and Guitar Center, actually the average player here at Guitar Center would astound the audience here who are maybe impressed by these contestants.
Host: “Describe your style” Player #4: “Melodic” Player #4 proceeds to completely contradict himself. Seriously, some of these contestants are just not ready. At least #3 killed it.
The intro to 'Trail By Fire' was one of those defining moments on guitar for me. With the sweep picking arpeggios and speed run, the 14 year-old me was like 'a guitar can do that?'.
The thing that most people don't get, is that _shredding_ is far more about precision than speed. Someone who plays precise will always sound faster (and worlds better) than someone who plays sloppily, even if they're actually playing at a faster tempo.
I agree. Whoever dialed in the tone was terrible. Not sure if the contestants dialed in their own tone-if so, maybe they’re in bands and are used to their tone having in to sit in a band mix. Dialing in a stand-alone, non-accompanied guitar tone is totally different.
What is sweep picking? Sweep picking is hard! That was the best part for me, I like how they actually took on amateur shredders instead of all seasoned improv pros, it might not sound as good but it definitely makes it more real!
Top honours go to Frankie C. (the third guy). Paul Gilbert’s Intense Rock, he’s the ONLY one of those guys that have studied it, and it put him light years a head.
Tim buddy, if you're reading this, I'm from Edmonton too and i'm so damned proud of how you did and most importantly how you left. You showed some real class man. Represent bud.
They said he went off the rails a bit with the tapping but honestly I think the tone just made it sound not as full as it could be and as for the rest I thought it sounded pretty inventive he was playing with some cool sounds and carried it out quite nicely throughout
Some constructive criticism: 1.- Who is doing the mixing? All of them sounded like crap. 2.- For the love of God, give them a backing track. 3.- The feedback from the judges is very limited and occasional. All three should give theie opinion. 4.-The shredding a paper with the name of the dude is unnecessary.
I do agree with the mixing; however, they are probably trying to give you the most honest feedback from the playing without post processing which can completely change someone’s tone.
its good to hear that they will have backing tracks because some of them needed it :s other than that I think the judge opinions were very informed and honest.
I've played guitar for 20 years now. And the biggest mistake I've ever seen from so many guitarist is that, they'd rather play as fast as possible rather than well. The speed comes with muscle memory over time. I'd rather play well and things with more feeling than some sloppy mess of notes played incoherently. Playing fast is much more impressive when it's clean, controlled and still has feeling. Playing the same pattern at different frets as fast as possible shows a lack of creativity and imo is extremely boring.
I came here expecting good vibratos, original melodic ideas and great technical control and all I got was (mostly) sloppy licks poorly pieced together... (the 3rd one was actually the only one that wasn't out of place IMO)
I salute them for having the balls to go to the show. Maybe some of them were nervous. The shit tone they gave them probably didn't help. But this is called "shredders of metal". With a title like that great players are expected.
This made me think that they just grabbed people off the street. Like most of these guitarists tone was AWFUL. And their vibrato and general intonation and ear were all horrendous. Alex looks like hes in physical pain listening to most of these
Scooped tone works great if you're _playing by, or with, yourself._ But as soon as you're in a band setting, mids are your best friend (no matter what genre). I still play with a somewhat scooped tone in metal bands, certainly more than I would in any other genre, but saying _almost no mids_ is just earless nonsense, or someone who's never gigged and recorded professionally. For starters, remember that adding bass to a mix is easy, but adding mids, _and especially treble,_ to a mix creates noise. So give the sound engineer some room to help your band sound great, instead of giving them a mushy signal that they struggle to make sound heavy and well defined. I suppose for some bands sounding muddy is what's wanted, but for most metal bands, you need tightness and definition for it to sound heavy. And that's why mids are so important . . . A typical good tone for metal when playing alone: Bass 8-9, Mids 2-3, Treble 5-8. A typically good tone for playing in a band: Bass 7-9 (this setting depends a Lot on what the bass player is set to), Mids 3-6, Treble 6-8 (still a scooped tone, but with far superior definition). Also, when playing in a band, dial back the distortion _crutch_ some (don't get me wrong, I love high gain metal, maybe too much). Of course these settings all change because of the differences in amps, and especially guitars, but mids and less distortion become increasingly important depending on how many other players in a band and what their actual instrumentation is. Remember, it's not _all_ about the guitar, it _is_ all about the mix. For other genres, especially country, crank the shit outta your mids. It may sound awful when playing alone, but in a band it sounds far far better. And unless you play very badly, you'll thank me. It's the same thing most bass players fail at, they often think that the bass tone setting is the only one that matters, but the best metal bass tones have some boom ofc, but also sound like someone dropping a car engine onto an anvil. That means there is a Lot of low mids, and some highs also. This helps the bass player to cut through the mix, especially if you want an extra heavy bottom end on the kick drums. But if you want the band to sound muddy as a whole, and for no one to be able to hear all the guitarists mistakes, then by all means, lose the mids and crank the gain all the way up. Some of the tones in this video were achieved that way. You can hide the bass players mistakes by not using mids also.
great show, you guys need to do this with drums, bass, and singers, then have one with whole bands, I thought that this one was great and looking forward to seeing more of this. makes for good content. keep up the good work.
I've been hyped to see this since I first heard about it and I was not let down, BUT I want to give a a few suggestions... Slow down the show! I want to hear more from... everyone, frankly. Reactions/criticism seemed sugar coated a lot of times. Don't be jerks, obviously, but tell it how it is and elaborate as much as possible. A backtrack would have made listening a bit easier and likely have helped the musicians maintain their timings - an common issue I found. Ending a positive note, I'm satisfied with the lineup of guitarists and I am absolutely looking forward to the next episode!
Nah if she didn't gate her tone it would have flowed much better. I think she was afraid of feedback or overtones taking over her actual note flow and tried to eliminate them.
As a guitar player...this is fucking AMAZING. I have been waiting so damn long for something like this. Guitar deserves it. Although these players aren't the greatest with melody or note choices...I think the "shredders" part is getting to them a little too much. Number 3 is pretty much the only player that deserves this platform along with the last player with his sense of melody...not even trying to be harsh. Mindless shredding doesn't get my vote.
I like that they arent perfect, which allows for good criticisms. However, these standards are quite low in my opinion, and I think you could find much better contestants.
Actually really like this format. The fact this is a group of Real people and not high paid talent is refreshing. I love the small time feel. The stage and panel desk is perfect for what you guys are presenting. Gives it a personal feel. I'm not a guitar player which made this interesting to me. Being a mediocre musician and being in a contest is a great combo for the viewer! Some were really bad, some really good!....in my humble opinion. 🤘🤘
So...these are the only contestants throughout the entire show, or will someone else join in next episode? Cause it’s already clear that number 3 is the only one here with skills :)
Alex is beyond! Great panel!🤘I play, having Alex in the same room would’ve caused me to pass out! Alex is an amazingly gifted guitarist! The third guitar player was definitely rockin it! 🤘🤘🤘
it was awesome , the whole series was like a metal lunch for the metalhearts. i really got inspired and will try to take those tips to mind . thank you and i hope there be many more shedders of metal battles.
This is a good idea but man these contestants all had pretty terrible tone. Which made it hard to watch and top of that most of them just sounded like someone noodling around at a guitar center.
#3 has blown the first two completely out of the water so far. Could barely listen to the first two, sounded sloppy, might've been the tone and nerves. Kind of liked #6 too, but that's about it. Right guy went home. Promising show idea though!
I absolutely love this, this is an amazing idea. We Metal fans don't have shows like this... You should do more in this same vain. Like Best Beater of the skins (drums) Best Metal vocalist? Just spit Ballin here
Really cool show. Also it debunks the myth that pro or semi pro players are super human or got some kind of god given talent. Watching some of the players make mistakes really shows that no matter what, practice makes perfect.
I'm pretty sure I met that guy from testament at barrington hall. He looks familiar, although that would have been a bazillion years ago. I saw a lot of those early thrash bands at ruthies and the berkeley square back in the day. They... well, two guitarists and a bassist all plugged into 100 watt stacks in a small club probably wasn't the greatest idea in the history of great ideas. 40 years later and my ears are still ringing.
It might just be me but the last contestant, Rick, his solo was my favorite. By far the most original and interesting one to me. Bri started out strong but Daniel was right she needs to lay of the noise gate because it hurt her performance. I say all of this as a Rhythm guitar layer though, so what do I know haha.
The melodic dude was good from a theory perspective, but his tone sucked ass, and his playing was pretty much following a set pattern of sweeping, which I’m not ragging on, I can’t even sweep pick yet, but for a show about the supposed best of the best he seems like a head scratcher,
Fun Ocean732 he had the melodic idea in his head and I was hearing where he wanted to go but the execution and tone kind of just drowned the idea prematurely
Do one episode where every contestant has to do their own solo over 1 Testament song, it would be cool to see Alex critique the hell out of that! I enjoyed the fact they had no backing tracks tbh but it would be cool if there is 1 episode where they do and just change the challenges every episode 👍 or maybe an episode where no sweeping is allowed!
Yeah, solars are cool! I actually have a Washburn Solar Custom Shop that doesn't have a logo. The US factory got closed so they didn't have time to put a logo on, everything else is perfect on it. It looks really good with just a black headstock, probably is the only one of it's kind.
So they must of went to the local guitar center and picked up these amateurs. Horrible technique and feel. Should have some 10 year old Asian kids on this show. We’ll see some decent shredding then
Contestant Info! Who are these guitar shredders? Check out their bios and links to their own bands here: bangertv.com/shredders-contestants/
When we make a Season 2 there will be another open Call for Submissions!
BangerTV, now this is what i call shredding !

Wow, they've made a show out of what it's like to be in Guitar Center on a Saturday.
No "Smoke on the Water" allowed!
Lmao. Great comment
Haha holy shit this is the perfect sum up
That is no shit!!! lol
nailed it
-How would you describe your style?
~Melodic.
*Miscellaneous messy shredding madness*
Very Yes oh fuck you, i looked in it
It might not have been done perfectly but he had some good melodies.
damn i see it when i read your comment lol
Same thought - and Mercyful Fate t-shirt, the band that played one of the most catchy solos in the universe
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Anyone else break out laughing when the guy described his style as 'melodic' and then went into an Yngwie-wannabe sweepfest?
Akherousia502 I laughed. That was so "melodic"
You're correct, but even if I were particularly fond of basing my scales around harmonic minor - which I am - I wouldn't describe my style as 'harmonic' because that would imply, in this context, the excessive use of harmonies, not an actual reference to a particular scale. Hahaha yes!
Akherousia502 yeah, he was clearly trying too hard to emulate Yngwie. I would prefer to see him something else.
I expected Children Of Bodom and got blasted with wanna be Dragonforce.
Summary of how I reacted:
40% Laughing
45% Cringing
5% "Yeah dude that's some pretty solid stuff"
That's only 90% lol
The only real guitarist is Frankie C, let's be honest 😁
Alex is clearly suffering listening to these mindless torrents of notes . But he’s a super nice guy so he doesn’t give them negative comments.
His face lol.
He has the best guitar faces.
Legendary guitar face.
Alex is a Warrior.
The third guy was good but the rest were bad.
Felt like I walked into a guitar center.
Uncommon Nonsense nah they all played in key lool
Lol foreal
How would you describe your style?
- Melodic!
*mindlessly shreds* 6:58
That guy HAD to have been a troll
When scales takes over you🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA
Biggest troll in shred HISTORY! 🤣
Lol the look on the judges faces "Damn this show is gonna suck"
This was probably the brain child of Blaine the rat face
Toto San haha exactly something sound better as an idea.
Definitely needs a backing track to take it up a notch.
Another way is to give them a drummer who drums in odd time signatures and they have to make a solo around that.
I agree
Agreed
Headbanger's Kitchen I reckon they should of been able to play there own backing track. Solo's on there own are very boring.
Yeah, I think if there were a backing track their solos would make more sense
I dare not bad mouth any of thse guys as they had the balls to go through performing a peice knowing it was to be judged, Thats gotta be stressful AF. Bri's story is a sad one. Betrayed by her own noise gate. A tale as old as time itself.
Zachary Carroll well yeah when you turn the gate all the way up to ten what do you expect
her tone is terrible, but She was not bad
Filip Vašíček it’s hard to judge skill when every note gets choked off before she even plays it though
Noise gate or not, she was fucking terrible
That noisegate had her by the NUTZ
Host: “Describe your style”
Player #4: “Melodic”
Player #4 proceeds to completely contradict himself.
Seriously, some of these contestants are just not ready.
At least #3 killed it.
I wasn't expecting Alex Skolnik, cool surprise
David Gómez
But hes a hell of a shredder though. Lol
David Gómez
LMFAO I was thinking of Alexi Laiho
The intro to 'Trail By Fire' was one of those defining moments on guitar for me. With the sweep picking arpeggios and speed run, the 14 year-old me was like 'a guitar can do that?'.
I was equally surprised by his Rachel haircut...
David Gómez same, a legend with so many...nobodys
The thing that most people don't get, is that _shredding_ is far more about precision than speed. Someone who plays precise will always sound faster (and worlds better) than someone who plays sloppily, even if they're actually playing at a faster tempo.
Aylbdr Madison perfect example for sloppily fast is Richard Benson (thank you Stevie T.)
Damn, I would hate to be having to suffer through those chainsaw guitar tones and trying to stay in the room.
the main problem was the recorder clipping quite often
Is this a parody?
The big guys tone is horrible
I agree. Whoever dialed in the tone was terrible. Not sure if the contestants dialed in their own tone-if so, maybe they’re in bands and are used to their tone having in to sit in a band mix. Dialing in a stand-alone, non-accompanied guitar tone is totally different.
Terrible tones and poor sound production / clipping
What is sweep picking? Sweep picking is hard! That was the best part for me, I like how they actually took on amateur shredders instead of all seasoned improv pros, it might not sound as good but it definitely makes it more real!
Cool show. #3 was the smoothest.
Steely Phil he was good sounded like a video game lol
The metal judges are worlds nicer than American idol judges and that speaks volumes
Top honours go to Frankie C. (the third guy).
Paul Gilbert’s Intense Rock, he’s the ONLY one of those guys that have studied it, and it put him light years a head.
“Melodic”
*proceeds to play senseless amounts of notes”
Though to write than scrolled to find if someone probably noticed already.
>clicks show called "shredders of metal
>complains about how they're all just shredding
haha personally I don't mind some shredding but the shredding is more impressive when it's balanced out with some melodic stuff too
Good shredding also has some style
hahahaha this made me laugh
fauxmosmexual Shredding doesn't have to be a contest for mindless speed. Satriani and Petrucci are shredders too, you know.
fauxmosmexual just because you can play fast doesn't mean you can shred. To me shredding is much more than just playing notes fast
Where's Rick Graham when you need him
He will kick some serious ass hehe
@@yair_pupe imagine if Jason Richardson was not know till now, and he was one of the contestants? 😂
I hate to be that guy, especially when it comes to guitar, but have some of these people ever dialed in a tone in there life?
T. B. Hatecraft yeah. Made me cringe
Or practiced bends or vibrato...they are faster than me but i have better bends and vibrato at least.
They got their own pedals, so I guess they now about their tone, I think is the crappy mixing + just a Marshall pre-set
Yeah, plugging into an unfamiliar amp can be a bitch for sure.
T. B. Hatecraft exactly
Tim buddy, if you're reading this, I'm from Edmonton too and i'm so damned proud of how you did and most importantly how you left. You showed some real class man. Represent bud.
I'm also from Edmonton lol and I thought his performance was awesome!!
What band is he in by the way he looks familiar
They said he went off the rails a bit with the tapping but honestly I think the tone just made it sound not as full as it could be and as for the rest I thought it sounded pretty inventive he was playing with some cool sounds and carried it out quite nicely throughout
I loved his vibrato and note selection idk why everyone is being so hard on him
Some constructive criticism:
1.- Who is doing the mixing? All of them sounded like crap.
2.- For the love of God, give them a backing track.
3.- The feedback from the judges is very limited and occasional. All three should give theie opinion.
4.-The shredding a paper with the name of the dude is unnecessary.
Thanks for watching and for feedback. There will be challenges with backing tracks coming so you'll get your wish there!
worgegramsci105 I agree with all of these statements.
I do agree with the mixing; however, they are probably trying to give you the most honest feedback from the playing without post processing which can completely change someone’s tone.
its good to hear that they will have backing tracks because some of them needed it :s other than that I think the judge opinions were very informed and honest.
I don't remember eruption having a backing track. If it's good enough for Eddie it's good enough for them.
Holy sh*t, I'm soo grateful to have had this channel recommended by UA-cam. Outstanding! New subscriber! Metal up!!!
Welcome Will!
So cool that Alex is a judge! He's such a nice guy. Thanks, Banger! Looking forward to watching each episode - Shredders of Metal is a great idea!

7:17 when your entry level friend shows you a new band and it's "rough"
Blayne, your closing bit: "More highs, more lows." Should have been "More highs, more lows, almost no mids."
Matthew May Best comment on here lol
Scooped tone works great if you're _playing by, or with, yourself._ But as soon as you're in a band setting, mids are your best friend (no matter what genre). now i cant wait to see the next episode, thanks a lot guys
They might be fast but they have no soul.
Agreed. Instead of the cycle of fifths alot of the youngsters use the cycle of the plastic button. The guitar hero generation. No heart or soul.
I been learning how to play for a cpl yrs now...and i hope i never sound this bad...thats noise...i want to play music...
Finally a critique from an expert

So...these are the only contestants throughout the entire show, or will someone else join in next episode? Cause it’s already clear that number 3 is the only one here with skills :)
This is a great concept and I really enjoyed the show. Hope to see it again.
It would help if there were backing tracks....
Kinda like a few of them were really good at Guitar Hero and decided to try and play a real guitar!
i agree , what is the criteria for entering this competition?!! ,this is the level of talent that Simon cowell trashes on got talent!
@ josh greene : Over 50% of tone comes from the fingers, and that's just on electric.
The second one had an ear splitting tone. It was hard to listen to. What more if you're there. The 5th was as well had a bad tone.
Great series, awesome setup and production. The humor and charisma is there. The only thing is i hate shredding. I really do.
#3 has blown the first two completely out of the water so far. Could barely listen to the first two, sounded sloppy, might've been the tone and nerves. Kind of liked #6 too, but that's about it. Right guy went home. Promising show idea though!
Alex Skolnick !! absolutely ! Great to have him in the show !!
I absolutely love this, this is an amazing idea. We Metal fans don't have shows like this... You should do more in this same vain.
Like Best Beater of the skins (drums)
Best Metal vocalist?
Just spit Ballin here
9andabovge call it master better
I love this programme! This is awesomeeee..
Guys 3 things appear to be of great importance, tone, tone, TONE!
How do you get on this show
-How would you describe your style?
-Melodic (then silence)
Some people let their guitars do the talking. :-)
Then he had literally no melody in his playing hahaha
jeramy576 Agreed man. Love the concept of the show though. Thank you Banger TV
"Melodic."
Proceeds to have no melody in his solo.
Super super super cool show idea!! I'll watch this religiously like å testament. Dude nr3 was my fav.
Best. Idea. Ever.
Loved it.
Want more
Awesome concept for the show! I dig it. It’s really inspired me to turn my distortion down! Lol
Only a few of these players understood the importance of good bends and vibrato. Always a good tell of an experienced guitar player.
4:00
Finally, someone is using a Solar!
Nice creative addition to banger tv.
I was reading the comments while loading and thought Alex Skolnik was a contestant lol
Ha! We could all go home pretty fast if that was the case. :)
Finally a show I'm interested in 🎸👍
We the people want Stevie T and other popular UA-cam guitar players in this series!!! Bring them!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
policarma i would crack if stevie would suddenly do a nervous laugh while shredding.
It will never happen. They are busy making their own videos. Not to mention they are sponsored already.
Maybe if we all chant collectively: "Stevie T, Stevie T, Stevie T" the mysterious powers of the universe will make it so.
Yeah or Jason Richardson..... But he has already won guitar
Please god no do not bring Stevie onto the next season.
loving it!! great idea, great show! Can't wait to see more!
The second was terrible and the "melodic" dude too
Zebes 26 THANK YOU!! That last guy SUCKED!! I hate to be that dude But cmon man!! Spare some of these people of the embarrassment!!
Way too much mid cut out on several of them.
Zebes 26 they were all terrible except that bald dude
Great concept for a show!
This was awesome! Season 2 please!!!
Solar guitar FTW!
Yeah, solars are cool! I actually have a Washburn Solar Custom Shop that doesn't have a logo. The US factory got closed so they didn't have time to put a logo on, everything else is perfect on it. It looks really good with just a black headstock, probably is the only one of it's kind.
Nice! Bring us the "MetalBass" competition!
Im a simple guitar player I see Alex Skolnick I click
I think this is my new go to channel. The host is a good one.
Omg Alex Skolnick 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I know right! LOL!
Love the bends!
anyone else thought the first guy's tone was pathetic ?
tejas sharma actually he is in a band called Striker, the band is really good and so he, i dont know what happened there xD
This show is awesome.
This show is only thing cheered me up today. Keep it up guys, we want more episodes 🤟
This show has so much potential, the pieces do need to fall into place. Apart from that great show
So they must of went to the local guitar center and picked up these amateurs. Horrible technique and feel. Should have some 10 year old Asian kids on this show. We’ll see some decent shredding then
Kinsen77 bring the Asians!!!!!!
God damnit dude shit the hell up
I absolutely agree!
But they only do covers
Sounds like someone can't shred
Tim lost to the tab guy?? Striker tho \m/
I hope there is a backing track
OMG "Absolutely Not Live"...I Love It.. Subscribed
Great players, but most of them need some real help with their tone. All the high end and fizz started to hurt after a few
That is a global issue, really...
What happened to your arm in Perú?
The indian guy was the best, that was fucking cool.
There's actually no Indian contestant, fyi.
BANGERTV - All Metal ok cool. The brown gentleman then. He was the best.
Indians can't play guitar
