In case you haven't gotten an answer yet the chatter on cold start is normal from what I've gathered from different forums. According to Nissan,when it's cold the oil thickens and isn't pumped up to the chains yet. So you get a bit of a chatter.A dead giveaway for a timing chain tensioner failure is a whining sound while running. Almost like the sound of a supercharger. In 08 nissan implemented a fix for the weak tensioners and the dreaded "pink milkshake" problems in the 4.0.

Hello. What was the symptoms for this engine that required the work done?..mine is making a rattling only at cold starts.
