There seemed to be a lot of turmoil regarding the early direction for Anakin's hair in Star Wars Revenge of The Sith. Hayden Christensen seemed worried George Lucas would go with a prettier hair style for Anakin that Hayden wasn't comfortable with. Luckily we got the better hairstyle for the final product in RoTS!

George Lucas could wrangle in and deal with the crazed, not-really-Star-Warsy suggestions in a calm, polite way. (And was pretty strict on maintaining his vision for the universe) Disney Star Wars rejects nothing and just slaps it somewhere else deeper into the canon. SAD!

I honestly love how Anakin looked in Revenge of the Sith. The hair style, his dark Jedi robes, and that scar on his face made him look really handsome, I like to imagine when they were alone Padmé liked to run her fingers through Anakin’s curly hair because she liked it so much.

Absolutely, but long hair does not equal pretty, its the way you style it.
Look at Qui-Gon Jinn for example, he has long hair, yet they found a style that works for him.
I'm glad they found a style that works for Anakin, but they were dead set on scrapping it and cutting it just because it looked too pretty.
They could've explored many different styles before they cut it. This doesn't just apply to Anakin, it can also apply to any other character.
I find the idea of exploring different styles to be a great way to improve on how you design characters.
If anyone explores and experiments with different design choices it will help them in the long run and make them a better character designer.
Its like sketching, it isn't final and you can revert and start over if you'd like, but it helps in giving you experience and makes the design process way easier for future designs.

Hayden was a lot more vocal about the direction of the character in ROTS, which is probably why the performance was so much better. He was probably star struck and just thankful for role in episode 2. By this movie, he IS Anakin Skywalker and probably felt like he should voice his opinion a lot more. Like in this scene when he straight up tells George Lucas that he essentially does not like the hair.

I think what made his hair so great in rots is how simple it is. It's not over the top yet still conveys that ruggedness
This. If they gave him a ponytail, it would appear like he still puts effort. Same if his hair was too long or too short... Or that mohawk style. It looks highmaintenance.
But with mid length, uneven messy hair, they conveyed that anakin isn't concerned with trimming or doing anything with his hair (as long as it isnt too long it obstructs his view)

I just looked up some pictures on the mention of Mark Hamill in this video... just to see what his hair looked like throughout the series.
Some pictures of SW VIII came up... I think the staff, hairdressers, MUAs and literally EVERYONE on set actually cared about their job.
Does not mean that the people who pull the strings and give the story and the lines to actors will care.... and you can look at the result.
New gen Star Wars only turned out to be a dumpster fire cause of Disney, ruining the hard work of sooooooo many ppl. Truly a sad thing.
I love these documentaries. It's actually "Behind the Scenes" and not just outtakes or interviews, it shows a lot of the filmmaking process. Educational and entertaining. I wish more did this.

Honestly, my favourite thing about the prequels, even as a kid, is the behind the scenes featurettes. They're so interesting and oddly candid in a way that you would never get now. Absolutely fascinating.

Who is Anakim?
I didn't know there was so much commotion over how to style Anakin's hair for Episode III. I literally thought they just went with the shaggy look to have it resemble Luke's hair in a modern (early 2000s) way lol. Well, I'm glad for the end result because I was crushing hard on Anakin when he appeared with that style in Episode III.
I was already crushing on him in AotC, so much so that I refused to see RotS because that was the movie he became evil.

hadnt seen the OT, I grew up with the prequels, was like 6 or 7 when I saw ep1, already crushing on baby blonde Anakin.
But then there he is 10 years older, charming muthafucker, I didn't know what the fuck was happening.
By the time ep3 came out and he shows up all with that beautiful hair, his attitude darker cuz of the war and the darkness, my pre-teen self lost it.
Cried so much when he burned, I know he made grave mistakes, but this was my very 1st affection I had for a fictional character, it was heartbreaking.

I've been growing my hair out since the outbreak started (when barbershops closed) and part of my inspiration is to get my hair similar to Anakin's from Episode 3, I think it looks badass.
