The world's tiniest 58 lb bow?

  • En route to develop a slingbow version of the popular Rambone slingshot, a new prototype iteration is ready for testing. This time, a complete frame is presented. This allows lowering the embedded whisker biscuit a full 2 cm, so it almost touches the fist.
    This low fork, combined with the super ergonomic Rambone handle, allows very strong bands. 58 lb of a draw weight is quite substantial for a slingbow. The heavy aluminum arrow lands with a deeply satisfying thud into the thick archery mat.
    The next prototypes will see improvements on the whisker biscuit assembly and the string itself, but the frame itself seems to be really good by now.
    A "The Slingshot Channel" production!

    I've messed around hunting rabbits with a slingshot/whisker biscuit setup years ago, but never in my wildest dreams could I imagine 58lb. draw weight. Fantastic! I used a couple of zip ties to mount the whisker biscuit to a Crossman, and I could flip it down to shoot ordinary slingshot, too. Joerg's slingshot is remarkably superior, naturally. :)

    Great design. If you mount a D-shaped "guard" (like that favored for cavalry sabers and some bowie knives) in front of the fingers you'll have an excellent place to mount a bow fishing reel. Although, I imagine that's what you already have in mind.

    • @BobLegendable
      @BobLegendable 9 років тому

      mustardguy you're thinking of a wrist braced sling shot, because of the name I do understand your mistake, the wrist braced slingshot has the handle far back from the arm and rests on your wrist giving it a ton more draw distance and subsequently a lot more speed and power

    • @thinkcivil1627
      @thinkcivil1627 6 років тому

      The brace/sling you are talking about was called a "Wrist Rocket" back in my day. I had a couple of them and they were easier to draw because a lot of the pressure was transferred from the hand to where the brace rested on your forearm. I'm not sure if they are still in production or not, but they fun back in the day.

    Brilliant piece of work. From a Bowman's point of view that's a nice tool. You can make it into crossbow size also. The handle you made is still a standard bow handle cut down, but to make it compact, nice. So unless you have a mechanical release on hand what can you do in place of it? I can offer some hint. Leather wrist strap with a notch in the middle the 2 side of the notch have to be short and slit all the way down. But that's as far as I got. Does anyone know what would make the best wood for this project?

      I would have thought the fact he said 'Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year' at the end might have been a clue the video is over?! If not, perhaps the music and credits might also offer a pretty obvious clue?! If these are not enough, perhaps the red slider bar at the bottom showing how long is left might offer yet another clue? If these are not enough to make it obvious the video is over, you might actually have bigger problems to worry about!

  • @Urudrim
    @Urudrim 10 років тому +3

    this is just an awesome replacement for a take-down bow. but i'm concerned with injury to the wrist with a 58lb draw. it's a shame you can't make a wrist bar in germany (the ban sounds ridiculous to me). can you make a wrist bar for the intent to export?
    or how about make a wrist bar separate but easily attachable (and shipped separately as different products), only the person on the receiving end assembles it.

    • @TheHalloweenk
      @TheHalloweenk 10 років тому +2

      Well no self-respecting maker of weapons/attachments would sell a product that has not been tested, and Joerg tests EVERYTHING before he decides to record. So he would have to at least put one wrist bar together and test it before sending it out as a product, because if something goes wrong it could easily be put on Joerg's head for not properly testing his product before he sold it to customers.

      commonlaw man
      I respect your philosophies displayed here, but I believe they are basically flawed in a number of ways. First, the ideas you present here infringe upon anarchy, which are ideas that I can sympathize with in certain situations, but generally view as misguided. The basic idea behind anarchy, or at least under my basic understanding of the subject, is that it involves overthrowing oppressive governing bodies to allow for greater rule and freedom for the people of a nation. In certain situations this can certainly be highly beneficial for a large sum of individuals, but I generally feel as if the act of destroying or ignoring the statutes set in place by a governing body will, without fail, result in mass chaos and suffering (perhaps look towards the French Revolution of the late eighteenth century, where a cruel and unbalanced governing aristocracy was overthrown, but ultimately led to tens of thousands dead and war across Europe some 2-3 decades later). Second, while I certainly agree that every human being has certain natural, "unalienable" rights, it cannot fall upon the judgement of a single man or woman, who is, by nature, flawed and biased in some way, shape, or form to determine what these rights entail. An individual, swayed by their own personal interests, should not be able to determine what is right and wrong with their actions when these actions can involve and harm others who are not so prejudiced. Such self-determination of what is naturally right and allowable and what is not will also infallibly result in chaos, which entails the suffering of many. By no means am I disagreeing with your, shall we say, natural right of self-expression, but the fundamental ideas you seem to convey seem rather flawed under untrained my eye, and I believe that, if nothing else, they merit some form of evaluation.

    • @MidasMind
      @MidasMind 10 років тому

      Eli Kessler Excellent temperament for what may have been an overreaction on the part of your opponent. But I think you may be projecting the outcome of the adoption of +commonlaw man's sentiments too far forward into conjecture to suit the otherwise moderate and philosophical tone you use.
      I say this because I make the assumption that your opponent knows that an individual alone cannot bring effective change to a government, legally or otherwise.
      I also feel the need to mention that, in my opinion, the legal limitation of force which citizens are capable of to a level so far below the force capable of the body which governs them as to essentially make citizens physically ineffective against said body is not a situation which can be adequately modeled with the french revolution, due to scale and technology.
      Nowadays, it is a much more pertinent argument to point out the difference in capability of force between individuals who obey the law, and those who don't. A difference which I believe is still reconcilable within the confines of civil interaction with the government.
      edit: That is of course if the true intent of weapon legislation is to limit the possibility of unnecessary death as much as possible, as opposed to myriad other ulterior motives which I will neither confirm nor deny my belief in the existence of.
      The fact remains; A slongbow is no more or less deadly with or without a wrist brace.

    • @MidasMind
      @MidasMind 10 років тому

      commonlaw man
      I appreciate your response. Honestly I was more or less just trying to point out the wrangling of the otherwise valid points you made into some kind of analogue to the French Revolution, and if my intelligence could afford it, expose what seemed to be not much more than a philosophical protectionist for exactly that.
      As far as your views, you and I seem to be speaking from relatively similar places. One difference I am aware of (though I don't intend this as an argument) is that I am more inclined to believe that the specific flaws you point out in the legal systems we deal with as citizens are intentional and most likely will not be changed in a civil manner.
      Of course the dilemma of not being capable of changing the flaws by other than civil means arises, at which point I just accept the game as rigged and adjust my actions and moral attitudes accordingly. It is the only route I have found to remain in a state which I consider to be free, even if it does cause me to have limitations which other citizens can avoid by complying fully.
      To relate what I'm saying to a more general audience, just remember that every law ever passed to illegalize the possession of absolutely anything which law abiding citizens previously had access to eventually makes a criminal out of someone who took no foul action whatsoever. If this sounds inconsequential to you, I point you to the en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Reserve_Act which lasted for 30 years.
      Anyways I apologize for using this conversation as a grandstand, I tend to become very emotional when discussing these topics. I guess my bottom line is that freedom is only ceded by choice, no matter how dire the consequences may be for refusing to do so.
      Merry Christmas to you as well, and I hope you continue with whatever ambition it was that led us to this interaction.

    Does anyone else find the word "Whiskerbiscuit" funny? It make me smile a little every time I hear it...

    Incredible. I think these would do very well on the market. I sure would buy several.

    I am so happy that I am the first on this video to represent a great website known as Reddit.com. Now, I know what you're thinking! Why have I never heard of this website? Well, it's because at the moment our community is tiny. It has become my life mission to spread the word of Reddit because it's what people like me call home. On Reddit, you'll find gems such as /r/atheism and /r/trees ( have no fear my gentlesirs, it's not actually a subreddit about tree's, it's just a cool name we made up for marijuana!) I hope to see all of you on reddit.com!
    Salutations, a tip of my fedora and an extended brohoof to you all!

      I dont get how people can be so upset with all these post refering to reddit, they're obviously just trolling.

    you make some good stuff but why do you call it a bow-its not a bow

      It's not, it's called a slingbow. It still has bow in the name because it performs a similar function by launching arrows.

    • @jadekayak01
      @jadekayak01 7 років тому +1

      +harrumphicus other people call it a slingbow,which is still incorrect as it is not a bow.
      it doesn't matter if it performs one of the functions of a bow(launching an arrow),it is not a bow.
      a speargun can launch an arrow but its not called a bow.
      a compressed air launcher can launch an arrow but its not called a bow.
      a bow is a specific type of launcher and the all look similar,even compound bows are recognisable as bows.
      one exception is a "flipper" .even though it has prods or limbs it uses spring or rubber bands for the power and only uses the limbs for leverage.
      a shoe is not a foot.

    Another cool idea. I love what you come up with, very interesting ideas. Some are a little impractical but awesome, and others are simple, practical, and makes me want one. Keep up the good work.

    You are a genius sir. This makes me wonder why I'm carrying around a full longbow.
    I could just use one of your sling-bow models and be much more portable and lightweight.
    Amazing...simply amazing.

    I made one kind of like this when I started shooting with a sling bow three years ago. Mine was very rudimentary compared to yours.Thanks for being an inspiration Mr. Jorge Sprave! It is still very fun to shoot though. I have taken a coyote and a bunch of gar and carp with mine. Working on taking a wild hog when I get home from school. Very cool!

    for any archers out there, if you dont know already, for a steady shot just hold your breath when the bow is drawn. It increases you accuracy by a lot, and it helps with staying on target.
