Maybe things won't go back to normal.. but, normal wasn't so great for a lot of people, so... Instead of trying to go back to normal, let's try becoming better than normal. Worth a shot, right?

He's right..we can't go back to the way things were, things HAVE to change and I also think he's right in Saying we have to examine ourselves...and as far as what Jimmy says goes I applause him for what he said....so many people right now are afraid to say the wrong thing for fear of getting attacked, but I think he said what needed to be said right now...and more importantly what he feels in his heart was the right thing to say...he could have kept quiet...like he said some advised him, but that's not Jimmy

Backlash? internet attacks? Always start from what you do know. Universally, that is "i don't know everything", because of this "i'm bound to make mistakes" and so "could i be a bit more humble in my approach to things i know little about". Problem is a lot of people and particularly privileged people, don't seem to know that reflection lets you know how much you really know about any given topic or culture. If people tell you you've wronged them, you shouldn't be above questioning yourself or asking others why they think so. Jimmy did this but most celebrities don't. Probably because he has a good amount of humility in his personality and he seems like a good parent (that takes egolessness (if that's even a word)).

We've all made mistakes, we all have blind spots. Covid has opened Pandora's box and forced us to go on an inward journey, and some of the things we've dredged up aren't pretty. Taking ownership and responsibility for our actions is what a healthy adult does. Jimmy, this took guts and I respect what you've done here. Eamon O'Connell that’s ignorance and dismissive to the core values of the black lives matter movement. Black lives matter doesn’t mean only their lives matter, but rather stating the facts that black lives are being taken from them due to racism in bright daylight. I am sure you don’t lack intellect so just listen and understand. Too many black lives are being taken by police brutality, not Asians, not Mexicans, or whites. The facts are the facts that’s why BLM was created and people from different races work there to simply help end racial injustice. Education is key.

It'sElise exactly! He was on the verge of tears during his monologue, not because he wants sympathy or attention, but because of how much hate he got last week and is STILL getting for mistakes he made and acknowledged. He knows he screwed up, he even mentioned it, but even after he tries to make things right and get educated, people STILL give him hell. People on Twitter are still calling him racist over the SNL sketch, you can see how much this is all weighing on him

It was a skit broadcast to millions and shown in reruns for 20 years. He and Chris Rock are friends to this day. So, why all of a sudden is he being called out? Honestly I think conservatives are just feeling like they are calling out hypocrisy in the left, the White House has been mentioning late night talk show hosts recently, there won't be many white people left to entertain us if we keep doing this. Out of concern of being "the angry black woman" or the "big scary Black man" we "turn the other cheek" Especially at work Us managing our anger has allowed some white people to be so comfortable that they see NOTHING wrong with their actions towards us. Mind you I'm not just speaking of blatant racism but also the small micro agressions that make us feel uncomfortable af So who is it that needs to manage their anger?

This injustice belongs to all of us and we all need to own it and fight for change. Get out of your own head and get in to the streets! @@desijesi8450 I think I'm going to step in here and try to be rational. Not all whites are racists. Period. End of statement. But, celebrities are turning this into something that it isn't. George Floyd was executed because of the lazy, "unoffending" recruiting sector of his police district. The world focuses too much on not hurting other people emotionally, and "giving every one else a chance." So, they let a sociopath into there ranks by either not testing him, or by giving him a "fair chance." The problem is not racist cops abusing there power like celebrities think. Its the fact that we do not push our testing to the extreme to filter those people out of the system. As for the point about the "Blacks kill whites on a regular basis," they do. Just look at cities like Chicago. Hate violence happens in reverse. Its just not mainstream, since it doesn't involve an authoritarian figure, such as an officer. But, the fact that everyone has turned this around to say that "all white cops are racist," doesn't work for me. They are just not. It kind of makes me feel like the blacks are truly the racist ones. Unreasonable, blaming, violent towards whites. I think my point stands.

You spoke with eloquence, love, compassion, and with a new understanding of the way the world and this country are and where we need, no not need but why we have to have a different mindset about how the last 400 years have went and our role in keeping the status quo as it was with Caucasians as the dominators. You speak to the need to have real equality among all races not the “white centric” thinking of the last 400 years. That we have to have REAL EQUALITY among the races. The death of George Floyd needs to be the time we make the changes and not just gives lip service to them. We ALL have to be the change we are looking for! I have seen video tape off exactly the same thing happened to a white man and the cops laughed and joked about how he looked dead and the police officer still was leaning on his back while this man had already quit breathing.. and they constantly made jokes and then paramedics show up and tell them he’s dead and they are still cracking jokes. I just want to point out that it happens to both black and white but when it happens to be white cops did it to a white man.. well obviously the word racist isn’t put out there.. so it doesn’t get as much attention. But everything these two are saying I agree with we need to examine our lives and who we let in.. are we making a good example for the future and for our peers.. and forgive people for being human.. because if you don’t learn to forgive.. it does something inside of you.. and we do need to have honest open dialogues and listen and learn from each other not just say what we want to say then disregard what the other person says. We can all agree that things like this are heartbreaking and terrible and I don’t want my children to grow up in a world where things like that happen.. but i am going to use this as a teaching moment instead of pretending it’s not happening and shielding their eyes from it. Instead I turned on the news last night and started a dialogue with my children and my hope is that they will grow up differently.

As a linguist I find it interesting how black Americans refer to themselves by color. “As a black American” “the black community” “the first black president” that is also a way of setting yourself apart, making a distinction from “white”. Racism needs to dealt with on both sides, it’s not making black equal to white what eliminates racism, it’s not even thinking in terms of black and white that needs to be addressed.

I had never even given it a thought until I was in NY and at that point in time I was so scared, and I am so sorry that I Was so scared but I was so scared. So how do I change that reaction that I had. On the flip side we had a amazing time 90% of the time, but that 10% was very very confronting.
