I want you to know I have been watching coloring videos for 3 years trying to understand color theory and how to know what colors are. As I was watching this video it just clicked and i suddenly understood the rainbow!!!!! I now understand how all colors can come from just a few and exactly where they fall on the color wheel and more importantly why. I have no words to thank you enough for this!!! This was my a ha moment. You are a queen God bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The way I find my values is, after I swatch them, I photocopy the page in B&W, then I get out the Gray Scale & Value Finder and match it up. And yes, this video was very helpful. I'm just waiting on that particular colour wheel to arrive! 👍
When you moved the value finder over I instinctly seen the color look too dark, even though I know the color didn't change and then you said it looks dark, I was blown away, it clicked in my head. I'm still gonna struggle, but I will take every aha moment I can.
Very helpful as always. I would've never guessed being a cosmetologist for many years would be so helpful with a hobby years down the road. Because of that, undertones are easy for me. Greyscale is a different story!
I used my color wheel 🎡, I picked a wild flower, it looked like what we call black eyed susans. They are not black in the center, it's very dark purples, almost a brownish hue, and they look bright yellow, well, it's got yelllow and oranges and not at all what colors I would have went and picked out just by eye. Going to be using that thing a lot now 😊
@@ColorMyWorld I can see that, I'm going to use this a lot, cause it showed me that what my eyes see and what the color really is, is two different things, until my eyes can truly discern it 😊
So ansious to start recognizing my colored pencils! Ordered the color wheel from Brazil, and today ill put my hands on it 🥰🥰🥰 Im trying to store my pencil collection by colors, and all your doing wil help me A LOT!! just love your classes!! Thank you!!! ❤️
Just to clarify, the undertone is the color three adjacent colors on the wheel have in common. For example, Red is the undertone for Violet-Red, Red, and Orange Red. Orange is the undertone for Red-Orange, Orange, and Yellow-Orange. Yellow is the undertone for Orange-Yellow, Yellow, and Green-Yellow, and so on. Am I understanding correctly? I decided to swatch my Star Joy pencils since they are the only ones I have previously unwatched. It was fascinating to get to know the colors according to the undertones. It's brought a whole new dimension to my understanding of color. The undertone is obvious with some colors, a little more tricky when I get to the light tones of yellow-green and green-yellow for example. But I trust with practice my eye will get better and better. Thank you, Lori! This is a wonderful class!
I am preparing the color windows for my Prismas, ordered my wheel and will be ready to go. I can't afford to take your etsy classes but will follow your youtube
Thank you Lori! That was very helpful! I watched the first video 2-3 times before starting to set up my Deli pencils. The glare was what made it tricky. On the other hand good daytime lighting was also important for me to finding undertones. 😊 Glad Andy had some time off. I grew up with many Chinese friends. I always admired their work ethic. When they work it is all work, all the time so it’s good that when they have holidays they take a few days to celebrate it with family and friends. Have a nice weekend!
Please tell me where and which color wheel to order. You are so sweet and you answered my last question so quickly I was so impressed. Thank you for all your lessons. Also I am confused about which videos I should do and in what order you would suggest? Thank you for sharing your abundant knowledge. Love you, Mary
I've been colouring for decades and somehow never learned about the gray scale. I'm feeling more than a little stupid now. 😂 Thank you for this video. It was informative and extremely helpful. 😊
Lori, I have a question about the swatch and comp sheet. I was wondering if that file could be made into an SVG file? If it could, then I could have my Silhouette Cameo cut out the centers of each swatch. It would be so much quicker and easier. I don’t know how to do it, but if it’s ok with you, I’m going to do some research to see if I can figure it out. Would that be ok?
I am going to put numbers on them once we hit the third because you can watch 1,2 and 3 in any order. There is a playlist for this entire series too. Just look on my page. After the next lesson we will be moving onto the pictures and that will become obvious too. This is an extra because there were so many questions. Also I am only doing lessons once a week or week and a half because people need time in between. I have other videos that will be on different art subjects. In fact I am waiting for an Amazon delivery today for a fun one. I needed some supplies.
Thank you Lori, I was just wondering whether it would be easy to put the phone/ipad camera on black and white and then look at your swatch sheet on the camera screen with the tone card? Then all you would need to do would be to match the greys?
Yes and no. I do take photos in black and white of the refrence picture. It helps mark out structures in the object. So yes it helps, but it's best to have a trained eye for it too. There are so many short cuts for stuff but the old fashion way of learning it is always best. Then you can add in the help tricks. If you look at the photos in the class I did give a black and white version.
I am having a bit of trouble with some of the reds. It's hard to tell if they are reds, red-orange or orange-red. I know you said the numbers can be different in each of the Deli sets, but I was wondering if there is someway to know for sure if what we think they are, is really what they are? I hope that makes sense.
The good thing is with red it's just more important to know if it's a violet red or an orange red. Violet Reds don't really blend that well with the orange red because of that blue/orange complimentary color turns brown thingy. Just keep practicing finding undertones. The rest will come in time.
You mentioned Andy had a sale on Delis but you were unaware of it. Every time I use the Amazon link, it shows out of stock. Do you have to go on at 12 am PST in order to have a chance at ordering them?
@@ColorMyWorld What I mean is the link works, but there are never any pencils available. It always says, "currently unavailable." I am willing to pay the regular price since I hear such great things from you and others about them. I just can't get them. I do see some on Ali Express, but that site seems like it should maybe be renamed Sketchy Alley Express, so I haven't chanced it. Thanks again for your videos, some of them really help hobby colorists like myself.
@@questionquiet1907 That's weird because there is plenty. Go in though the link on this page. Are you in the USA? That may be the problem. I believe it's only available in the USA.
@@ColorMyWorld Ah, that explains it. No, I'm not in the US. And in my country's Amazon, there are no Delis available. Sigh... seems I may have to take a chance on Sketchy Alley Express after all.
I don’t understand a lot of things, but specially the use of the value finder, so let’s say I managed to determine the undertone, how do I determine the value? Even with this lesson, I don’t understand how to use the value scale. I’m just hoping that as the series progresses I’ll catch up. I also don’t have the Deli set, because they’re not sold in my country 🙁 it’s so frustrating! I’m waiting for your set to become available! then I’ll see about paying a customs broker 😊 to get them to me! Is there an approximate date of when these will be launched?
Value is determined by the colors around it. At this point it's more important to understand and learn how to spot the undertones. Once we get more into things we will put it all together for you. You can use any set of pencils. I used Deli because I know a lot of people have them. About the pencil set, I am working out how to get them to people outside the USA. I may have to import them here and ship them out myself. Andy may be able to send directly. That's down the road. The pencils should be out within 4 months. We are on the end stage of designing them.
