- Lynn demonstrates how to make Homemade Vanilla Syrup that is perfect to use in your coffee or other beverages. This is super easy and a lot cheaper to make then buying at the grocery store. Adapted from Paula Deen.
1-3/4 cups water
1-1/2 cups white granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 Tablespoons vanilla extract
In a medium saucepan over medium high heat, gently stir together the water and sugars. Cook until mixture becomes thick and syrupy, about 10-15 minutes. Let cool and then stir in the vanilla extract. Keep at room temperature.

Hi Lynn What a wonderful idea.I use different flavored syrups (sugar free) in coffee all the time. With different choices of flavorings, this would be so much easier than a trip to the grocery. TYFS

Hi Lynn! The syrup turned out fabulous. I doubled the recipe, filled up 4 decent sized cruets, and gave some to my parents, my God parents, and my mother in law. I frothed milk for this morning's coffee, then poured a bit on top. It tastes so good! So much better than that brand of coffee syrup that starts with a "T". Have a great day, love Julia
+Julia Dickson So happy you like it, Julia! Thanks so much for letting me know. So nice of you to share. I hope you have a wonderful week. Love, Lynn

Lynn, this is a fantastic recipe! Like you say, vanilla syrups in general use to be so expensive and it´s so easy to make at home. Thanks for the idea, and it can be used for multiple drinks and even desserts.
Have a nice friday.
Love,
Patricia.
+Patricia G.G. So happy you like it, Patricia! I love it in coffee. I hope you are doing well. Thanks so much for watching. I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend. Love, Lynn
Hi Lady Lynn. Yes, vanilla is expensive but worth it. I love pure good quality vanilla. I like the Madagascar bourbon pure vanilla extract. Thanks for sharing this and enjoy your day. :)
+Lila Arce That's the kind I use and love it. Makes all the difference. Thanks so much for watching. I hope you have a great day, as well. ~Lynn
hey...i think i just might try this soon...just hard to find some extracts, like maple or other flavors. can you use any flavor in this recipe to vary it...orange, blueberry..etc? also...i love the jar you used. where can you find a cheap, but sturdy container to keep the syrup in inside the fridge if you dont want it to break? i've never made syrup before so i want to do it right and be careful. also, if you dont mind my asking, why do you strain it with the funnel when you finish? curious ty
If you do a berry or citrus, I wouldn't use brown sugar, but just add the equivalent of more white sugar. If you are using a maple flavoring or the vanilla that I used, the brown sugar will complement the flavors of the flavorings. The jar I used is actually a glass vinegar cruet that I found at my grocery store. I used the funnel so that I wouldn't spill it pouring it into the cruet. If you have an Ikea close to you, you might be able to find glass jars and containers that would work there. Also, WalMart has those types of cruets, as well.
dang you are fast lol. tyvm a cruet you say? didnt know that's what it was called. might have to look. got a budget of sayyy UNDER 5 bucks for containers, but plastic or not, perhaps i can find something. i'll keep that in mind tho about the sugar. i like to use different sugars in my tea, depending on mood and what's around, or just what i can afford. hmmm..so brown sugar wouldn't make it as sweet? interesting. ever dip your finger into BS and taste it? weird...good sweet.....but havent tried that in tea. if i can find inexpensive maple extract i might make that sometime. TY again :)
I think brown sugar would be just as sweet, but since it has molasses in it, the flavor would be different. You could try it and see if you like the flavor. That was just my opinion. I think I wouldn't want the molasses flavor in anything citrus or berry, but everyone has different tastes and you may enjoy those flavors together. Never know until you try. ;-)
I'll be making some and trying to make a sugar free variety as well. I am pre diabetic and trying to ease up on the sugars and carbs.
+MrOldclunker I hope you enjoy it! I am sure it will turn out wonderful. Thanks so much for watching. I hope you have a great evening. ~Lynn
Hi, Lynn. That syrup looks absolutely gorgeous. You have done it again. You have Avery specific vision with the recipe. I can't wait for my citrus tart to be made soon. I have a question: have you done any culinary cuisine from around the world, or just American cooking? Please let me know. I hope you have a splendid Valentine's, Lynn. Sayounara! ;-)
+Byron Chandler Mostly I just do American cooking and recipes that I really enjoy. So happy you like the syrup, Byron. Thanks so much for watching. I hope you have a wonderful day. ~Lynn
What a wonderful idea! I do often add a store bought vanilla to my coffee. For convenience, we have a cuisinart k-cup coffee maker, but l have a separate milk frothier that I use on lazy mornings, when I have more time. Adding this homemade vanilla syrup will be like taking a trip to Starbucks. I'm thinking how good it would be mixed in with plain Greek yogurt too. Luckily for me, I have a couple of pretty cruets.
+Julia Dickson So happy you like the syrup recipe, Julia! It is really good in coffee, but would be equally delicious in other things. Please let me know how you like it, if you give it a try. I hope you are staying warm. Thanks so much for watching. Have a great afternoon. Love, Lynn
Lynn, your Homemade Vanilla Syrup looks delicious. That would be great in coffee! Have a wonderful day! Love, --Betty :)
+Betty's Kitchen Thanks, Betty! So happy you like the vanilla syrup. It is delicious in coffee. Thanks so much for watching. Have a wonderful day. Love, Lynn
Beautiful syrup. Would vanilla powder work, and if so, how much?
+MISSINGROGERHOWARTH Thank you! I haven't ever used vanilla powder, so I am not sure, but I would check on the container and see what the equivalent amount would be for the substitution. Thanks so much for watching. ~Lynn
+lynnsrecipes Okay, Thanks for responding. You're welcome.
YUMMY
So happy you like the recipe!
can we use vanilla essence instead of extract since i can't find any vanilla extract in the local stores where i live?
Yes, you can use what you can find, but it probably won't taste quite as rich as with pure vanilla extract. It will be fine. If you have vanilla paste, you could use that, as well.
@@lynnsrecipes Thanks
@@dr_wnk - You're welcome!
Vanilla syrup in 2% milk that's been in your freezer until the top layer is just barely frozen. This is what God drinks!
This does not have to be put in fridge ?
+jean grey No, it can be kept on the counter or in the pantry.
☺
How do you spell 'crouette'?
Getting the brown sugar into the pot was a huge struggle for me
