      Yes and the girl that they got to play Alice was very good. She was a little bit older then the character she was nine during the time of filming and she had to wear a wig because her hair colour is brown. But I agree this is the best version of the movie.

      She did do good and looked like she was having fun. As for her age, even though it's said that Alice is 7 and a half, Natalie Gregory was actually 10 when this movie came out.

    I watched this over and over again as a child too! This scene was my favorite. I loved the way his soft shoe sounded with the leaves. Anytime I walk on a surface that sounds like this I tap a bit and think of this scene, even today at 34 years old.

    An excellent scene and by FAR the best part of this 3+ hour monstrosity. Even in his 70's Sammy could groove. But whats with the random lederhosen costume for Alice? The only time in the entire movie she wears anything other than that dress and it just appears then disappears at the end of the song.

    • @WillScarlet16
      @WillScarlet16 8 років тому +1

      Look at the book - the Young Man wears that same outfit in the illustration.

    • @IRex-wm9pd
      @IRex-wm9pd 8 років тому +1

      now that I look at the illustration more closely, you are right about the suspenders. but they look like lederhosen on young Gregory. and that hat is some kind of Bavarian hunter cap with a feather and doesnt look anything like the one in the illustration. but yes, clearly they were going for a match with the book illustration. Im just wondering how many people would be familiar enough with that tiny part of the story to understand that. for me it seemed perfectly random and inexplicable. I just assumed it was a lot easier for her to dance in that then in a billowy dress.

  • @Gnillob802
    @Gnillob802 15 років тому

    Actually it was produced by Irwin Allen (The Poseidon Adventure, The Towering Inferno) with a budget for a theatrical release, but he felt it needed to be at least three hours long which would be too long for kids in a theater and thought the story would hurt if he had to wait a year to release part 2. Putting it on TV made more sense and gave him immediate funding. In Europe, where distribution is quite different, he did release it in theaters in two parts about a couple weeks apart.
