They didn’t call him Champ, they didn’t drive home the work he’s put in and they definitely didn’t distinguish him from the others in this interview. All champs lose their prime and are never the same, once they stop improving. When they stay the same. Adesanya hasn't made any difference or improvement to his style or skills in a long time, same with Volk. Same when Reyes beat Jones. That's why Dana hated that Khabib left, he was getting better with every fight and had more money potential. Walked through Porier and Gaethje after McGregor. Islam will continue to be champ because we see him improving and showing us new things in every fight still. O'Malley (who I don't particularly like) is champ for the same reason, he's constantly improving.

from my perspective izzy put everything he had into beating alex. When it came time for sean he had no fire left to give. Not taking anything away from sean but in that fight izzy didnt look like himself. I hope with some time off he can find the passion again. It will be a challenge to deal with DDPs pressure, he will need to snipe him with a counter which is certainly within his reach.
Izzy planned to coast to a win against Strickland but that punch in the first round that dropped him changed everything. He tried to rally but the damage from the first round was too much to overcome. He just fought not to get finished in that fight from round 3.

That he was born there doesn't make him a colonizer. Unless you believe in original sin. Having a black skin doesn't automatically make you a victim either. Izzy even before his life as a fighter was a creature of privilege who experienced close to zero impacts of colonization. And there are tons of white people in s Africa and around the world who are poor, even if they are the descendants of colonists. Izzy has a chip on his shoulder. I'm white and south African born, my parents and grandparents were poor hardworking immigrants. I despised the apartheid regime and celebrated when it fell. Nelson mandela and fw de klerk are heroes in my eyes. Now that South africa is a democracy all the people of that nation have an opportunity to build a better future. But the ones who will hold that back there and elsewhere in the world are those that remain obsessed with race, always wanting to see other people through the lens of race. You may be black or white but it doesn't matter a damn to me, like Martin Luther King said, it's the content of your character that counts, not the color of your skin.
