    Most people who don't understand the Flylady system don't pay attention to the timer. Diane of Denmark is a Flylady mentor and her explanations are good. Short version: You need a 15 minute morning routine, a 15 minute evening routine, 15 minutes of detail cleaning in ONE area of the house each day, and the Weekly Home Blessing HOUR. I can't tell you how many people I've seen who ignore the timer aspect and spend hours and hours on a task when they were only supposed to spend 15 minutes! For example, many women ignore the HOUR aspect of the Weekly Home Blessing Hour, and think that they have to get all of their floors mopped to perfection in order to check that off. Not at all. It's 10 minutes of mopping, then you stop! Same with dusting, etc. The Weekly Home Blessing Hour is only an hour total, a quick spruce up, not a spring cleaning. Same with zone cleaning. 15 minutes per day and you stop. I hate housework and I have a chronic pain condition, and I don't see how anyone could get overwhelmed. I can't imagine any housecleaning routine that would take less time and effort unless you're already a very tidy minimalist who lives alone.

    The secret to understanding fly lady is the baby steps. She didn’t intend for it to be learned and understood in 1 day. That is why it is broken down into days. Day 1 to day 31. People who skip the break down have a hard time understanding what is going on.

    • @ADomesticWannabe

      I think you are correct! I am in the process of doing the 31 days right now! In fact, my first video on jumping back into is premiering in just a few minutes! Many people have made a VERY similar comment to yours, so I have to give it another try! I don't think my 1 week attempt did it justice! I hope you check out the new videos I make on it, and tell me what you think! Thank you for watching!!!

    Just found your channel. I started Flylady long ago-before UA-cam. She wrote a book called Sink Reflections. It is a philosophy not a checklist. I feel like reading the book is the best way to internalize it. I actually wore out one copy of the book because I reread it so much. It’s in your local library.

    I started flylady back in 1999, when she was pretty new. I couldn't follow her to the letter, because too many areas of my home felt neglected while I focused the current zone.
    But I loved some of her quotes.
    "You can do anything for 15 minutes" is a favorite.
    Meanwhile, I'm trying clean Mama, and HousewifeHowTo.
    I'm having trouble with sweeping and mopping on separate days. Or just doing it because it's Tuesday!
    I'm 86 and probably have too many years of personal habits to be very helpful here!
    Good luck, ladies! 🤗

    I have used both. Fly lady was just too much. Clean Mama was easy to implement and just doing the daily five gives your day a good start. The more I followed the daily five the faster it went. I found the rotating task keeps my house in great shape. It was flexible for what I needed and what events came along.

    Enjoyed your video. I stumbled upon The Flylady two weeks ago. I have heard of her but I made my own routine while my kids were growing up. Mondays was Kitchen because the weekend everyone is in and out and with guests. Tuesdays was bathrooms, Wednesdays Living room and Dining. Thursdays Bedrooms. I picked up each room I had to clean and put items in a box. The FlyLady’s routine I believe, by listening to her for two weeks is for people with Perfectionism. I am a perfectionist and I feel that within two weeks of doing Flylady I have learned to let go. I have been a perfectionist when I became a mom 37 years ago. I can’t believe how she changed my life. She even makes meal prep simple which use to overwhelm me to no end. Sorry so long. Flylady is easy for me also because I don’t keep clutter. If I don’t use it I don’t need it! Enjoy your journey!

    I'm a Flybaby. Lol
    I'm one of those people who didn't get why the shoes, hair, etc had anything to do with me... did you get her book, Chaos to Clean? It's all about ATTITUDE. When I mean business, how do I want to see myself? Not barefoot or in fuzzy slippers, that's for sure. I want to be able to run out the door to a meeting with friends or a conference with my child's teacher, or a play date at the park... or away from a housefire... looking pulled together instead of looking for my shoes!... That can mean a sundress with sandals, or a pair of jeans and a clean t-shirt and training shoes, or anything in between, just something complete that WORKS. Hair? Clean and combed is enough. I get more done when I'm comfortable with how I look. Isn't logical but it's true.
    The other thing I Love is that I've realized it doesn't have to happen in one fell swoop. I've lived most of my life over-booking myself, and getting frustrated when I can't do it all. Now, I have learned to understand its okay to take baby steps and do one thing at a time, that it doesn't have to be all at once, that it doesn't have to be perfect as long as I'm making progress. And, that I am never behind, and it's okay to just start over wherever I am.

    • @ADomesticWannabe
      @ADomesticWannabe  Рік тому +2

      This is some great advice/reminders for me! I also over-book myself. I take on a lot all at one time! I have not read her book, but I know many have recommended it! After this video I did do her baby steps from her website, and I agree getting ready for the day is a game changer in getting things done!

    I have tried both and much prefer clean mama! Flylady to me there are a lot of little details and it’s very focused on one area, I felt like one room in my home was clean but the rest was a mess and I could never catch up. Clean mama I feel like addresses the house as a whole much better! My critique of clean mama though is that she says “just minutes a day” and in reality it takes me much longer. I’d say anywhere from 30-60 minutes, however I do break that up throughout the day so it’s more manageable!

      I like your take! I tried FlyLady again...and have grown to like it! But it took me a few 30 day trials to get it. Maybe Clean Mama needs a 30 day trial from me too! It turns out 1 week just does not do a house cleaning plan justice! Thank you so much for watching!! ❤️

    Ladies, not taking away from these systems but I use my Irish grandmothers system, The Irish Mother Way, then later The Irish Matriarch Way and I would love to share it. Its on my new channel. Its great for working women. It focuses on "enoughism" and an Irish word called "Saol Suaimhneach" pronounced sail sue-ve-knock" which is different to Hygae. It means a life with a reoccurring sense of peace and familiarity among those you love. A bit like that feeling of coming home to your family for Christmas or seeing your friends again at a get together in your old local pub, or tucking your children into bed every night with their special lullaby.

      The Secret Slob really helped me figuring out the Fly Lady System. I didn’t like the original Fly Lady website as, ironically, I felt it needed some real declutter. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I am not following up every little steps, but built my own zones and scheduled (continuing onto the next week if I’m not done with a zone). I love the daily routines and the weekly home blessings. It made an enormous difference in my home.

    I have come up with my own system, loosely based upon The Organized Mum, Clean Mama , and Flylady. All 3 have about 5 daily tasks that are the same as each other’s, so those are done each morning, for about 15-20 minutes , except Sunday . Clean Mama has you do all of the bathrooms one day, all dusting one day and all of the vacuuming another day . In comparison, The Organized Mum has you cleaning one room a day ( both vacuuming and dusting ) Monday through Thursday with the equivalent of Fly Lady’s Zone cleaning on a Friday for 30 minutes. What I do is take a cluster of two or three rooms in a given day , like Monday , spending 30 -40 minutes total to dust and vacuum plus mopping, if needed , in those two or three rooms nearby each other , such as the entry, living room and dining room. The next day is a total clean of the sunroom , the kitchen, and entry floor tiles just off the kitchen. Again only spending 30-40 minutes . On Wednesday, I dust , and vacuum the carpeted hallway, along with a guest bathroom at the end of the hall, plus the laundry room. The guest bathroom gets cleaned plus a quick vacuum and wet mopping, leaving the area rugs in place - I’ll do a more thorough floor and rug cleaning on a rotation day, along with other deep cleaning in the bathroom then. Thursday I dust and vacuum the master bedroom and second bedroom across the hall, plus clean the master bathroom , along with a quick floor cleaning and mopping . Fridays are for 30 minutes of deep cleaning , organizing, or decluttering in whatever area I feel needs it the most . This way the basic daily and weekly necessities are taken care of without exhausting myself each day , and the deep cleaning gets done at a leisurely but progressive pace . I am retired, and have a small house, so this works for me . I sometimes even split up the 30-40 minutes into several different intervals over the course of an afternoon with a brief rest between starting to clean the second or third room . I am 77 years old .

    From binging on your videos over the past few days since I found you, I definitely clicked with your thinking of how to declutter and clean. I thought something was wrong with me after all these years, but it comes down to simply how our work style/mind is. I have tried many methods over the years, purchased "systems" and none have worked with my way of thinking and doing. I literally have been trying Flylady on and off for 20 years, since our son was born in 2003. I ran into the same issue with all the different "missions" for a day, week, month etc. I have printed out her stuff several times to try it and make a control journal and so on. I cannot get into the way it's all set up either! I seriously thought I am just a domestic failure! I'm going to try Clean Mama because of how you explained it and have all the lists ready to go. There's far too many little pieces per day to get moving on Flylady. I like the idea of having the list as you do. I will be making videos of this "600th" declutter try. LOL -- I've started and stopped a ton of times. Gonna give Clean Mama's list a chance. BTW - YOUR SON IS ADORABLE! I miss the "little" years so much! 😁

    You are adorable! Great job reviewing them. I started both systems, by reading their books... I liked clean Mama a lot more, and still do it and I incorporate a few fly lady things in my day. Mostly because I am a do everything kind of person, and just doing one thing one day a week is just not enough lol so I will say that I do the clean mama weekly routine all in one day, every day the week lol which is sort of what fly lady does. I think that's the trick with these and any routine, try it and incorporate those into your own routine that works for you. Good luck with your decluttering and weight loss journeys! Fly lady deserves a proper go at it. Take 1-6 months. Definitely not something to implement in 1 week. You’re trying to do too much too soon. You really need to start slow. I don’t feel you have the system a fair chance.
    I did read the comments that you said you’re going to give it another try so I’ll look for that video and am keen to see what you think.
    I have 2 back injuries and work from home as an author, I’m married with 2 kids living at home.
    I find that the fly lady system is so simple and allows my house to not become overwhelmed which works for me - my best advice is to make the fly lady system work for you. And don’t skip the self care she implemented in her system.

      You are 100% correct! One week does not do it justice! I added way too much at once and was so overwhelmed that it felt impossible to do! But, I am a person who will admit when I am wrong, and I'll always keep trying! (Even though you might see a bit of stubbornness along the way if you find my baby step series, I promise I keep pushing through and see why it is a loved method for so many!!) 🤣

    I wear my Birkenstocks in the house most of the time. They are my house shoes. I cannot wear them out to the mall or walking outside, so I made that designation. For me, it is the compression stockings. Once I slap those bad boys on, I am officially starting my day!

      My mother in law had given me an amazing pair of slipper/hard sole shoes that I wore around the house! They were so fantastic! Then one of our kitties peed on them...and I could not get the smell out so sadly I threw them away. But I would say they were super similar to Birkenstocks - I forgot about them until you said this! I should ask her where she got them!

    I use the parts of both that work for me. For as much as Fly lady harps on clutter, her website is one of the MOST cluttered websites I’ve ever seen in my life. EVERY fly lady comparison video talks about it, I don’t know how this can have escaped her attention for so long.
    I don’t do shoes in the house either. And I workout-workout daily after I homeschool my kids, so I don’t “fully dress” until then. I do put on fresh workout clothes though when I wake up. I use 15 minutes in the focus zones and try to be mindful of the weekly routines. I do my own things for daily routines though.
    I like clean mama as far as having certain days you do certain things, but sweeping one day and mopping the next day wouldn’t work for me- that’s modified too.
    So merging the two makes a perfect fit, but it’s a bummer not to have pre-made checklists or calendars. I try to do my own with printable dashboard style planner pages. That’s the best I can do…lol

    • @ADomesticWannabe
      @ADomesticWannabe  Рік тому

      YES! YES! YES! It is the most cluttered website ever! I think she could reach SO many more people if it was updated. Though she did get an app that is helpful and much less cluttered! So kudos to her!
      I like the way you do your fully dress - clean workout clothes - do your thing!

    I have never tried Clean Mamma. I'm week 3 into the Fly Lady system. This is my second time trying it and the first time I only tried it for one week I was totally confused and overwhelmed. I watched the Secret Slob both times. I think the first time I tried it I wasn't in the right headspace. So far I have been able to adjust it to fit my needs. I work 3 days a week outside the home. I have 2 kids, so there were a lot of tweaks I had to make 🤣 I have the app on my Android phone (the app can also be edited and personalized). It took 2 weeks this go round to get into the groove and I am LOVING it!!! I have completed decluttering projects I've intended to do the last 3 years. My house is FINALLY manageable and I would be totally fine with someone dropping by unannounced 😆 Game changer was definitely a timer for me! I hope you find the system that works best for you.

I will defiantly share how this time around goes! Last time I did not even get through the first day (but I was trying to do it all in one day, not the baby steps). Your video gives me hope that maybe this will be a winner! I just want routines I don’t have to think up. Thanks!!

      That is exactly what I wanted too!!! I like the Clean Mama checklist because you can jump right in day one and you know what to do! BUT - I recommend checking out FlyLady (now). I did her baby steps - I made a playlist and now I actually like it. BUT - I defiantly had days I wanted to throw in the towel. Just DO NOT go to her website and think you will get a list of things to do like Clean Mama. It will leave you confused and irritated (if you are like me)! If decluttering is apart of your goal - defiantly check out FlyLady for that, it has been a game changer! Thank you so much for watching! Please keep me posted on how you are doing!!

      @@ADomesticWannabe actually, Flylady has what she calls a Control Journal. You can buy a pre-made one, and she also has instructions on how to create your own... that's where Secret Slob started her version, turning it into what works for her and then sharing it...

      @IMChrysalis Рік тому +3

      P.S. I agree her site needs an update, but there are some real gems in it if you take the time.
      I started trying to organize my life with Sidetracked Home Executives...not a site, a book from decades ago. It's where Flylady got started too. Like her I found a lot of useful things but couldn't manage the card filing system when sudden shifts happen... so I got the idea to take the cards and turn them into a workable notebook, with check lists that could be reused by virtue of dry erasing... and then I found Flylady, who had already done it! We all know in our hearts what is right for us. It's up to us each as individuals to take what resonates in our souls... and apply it! Flylady says, Doing SOMETHING, however imperfectly, still blesses us and our loved ones. ❤

    2years late, but when it comes to shoes, I agree. I don't like wearing the same shoes outside, that I do inside. It happens, but I'm hyper aware of it. Typically I will change shoes when I'm in the house, or literally clean off the bottom of my shoes. If I'm not wearing shoes, or wearing loose house slippers, my brain thinks it's time to rest, and my feet don't get the same traction as they do when I'm wearing shoes so it's hard to get traction with cleaning

    Maybe a week it isn’t a long enough for some people to get into the Fly lady even though it seems like a lot of things there, you gotta pay the most attention to the cleaning stuff and take the rest with the grain of salt. The other stuff is just her allowing you to fit in other aspects of your life into it, so it’s a gift and not a cause for confusion. I will try again if I were you. Or you could even create your own version that is modified. You can always make each ladies systems work for you.
