    The best thing about the Fly Lady System is that it teaches you that you can accomplish a lot just by doing short, ten minute cleaning sessions and rotating the rooms you concentrate on each week.

    You don't know how happy I am that you are trying this, remember that flylady is NOT about being perfect, doing 2 mins hotspot is better than doing nothing at all! Congratulations on completing 7 days! The beauty of flylady also, if you fall off the routine a day, week, or year, you literally just jump back in and continue where you left off! When you focus on decluttering, it'll become a habit, you'll section your home into zones and each zone will have a dedicated focus every single month, once you have decluttered most of your home, deep cleaning will then be your monthly focus. Keep up the great work, you have a lovely home and you are a really lovely person! So motivating, it's a gift you give by showing the world exactly what they can do, I really love flylady and I hope you hang on to this for life now, sending love and light your way from England, UK

    The FlyLady has daily emails please sign up for those ! She has battled depression and at one point had a room she could barely open the door from all the clutter. She decluttered that room 15 min a day until it was done 😁! She wants you to take care of yourself and take it easy on yourself. That’s what I try to do , declutter small amounts often so I don’t get overwhelmed. Also on UA-cam there is Diane from Denmark who will walk you through the baby steps one day at a time . You will establish routines which really will make you and your family happy . I’m so glad you have decided to try flylady! Like she says ..... YOU CAN DO IT , SHE SAYS IF SHE CAN ANYONE CAN ! You go girl !!!!!! 💕

    2 parts cleaning vinegar (10% acetic acid I think) to 1 part dish soap. Heat the vinegar up in the microwave before pouring in the dish soap, shake to mix, and boom... a really awesome cleaner for calcium, lime, and rust build-up. It's antibacterial/antimicrobial, and not super harsh but cleans like a boss.

      I watch every Diane in Denmark video because she is so positive, never complains about her life, she's real but not perfect, and she never tries to sell me anything--and she knows how to make her own sunshine on grumpy days. She has great baby-steps videos and she talks out her thought process as she decides to keep or declutter items. And I love her "use what you already have" approach.

    So proud of you for giving Flaylady a go. She changed my life. I still have clutter issues, but I am much more aware of what triggers me and what I can do to get my home tidy and company ready within an hour or two, without stashing the clutter into cupboards and the unused shower recess.
    You are doing an amazing job!

    I love what your doing to declutter, your making so much progress. FlyLady is great for maintaining it like you said. The shining you sink habit is all about keeping your kitchen manageable. Somehow having a shiny sink makes it easier to keep your counters clear and then you kitchen neat and it also starts your day off on the right track. Waking up to a clean kitchen makes you feel lighter and just better about yourself somehow. It’s kinda magical like that. The bleach is only meant to be for that first initial clean and then maybe once or twice a year, it’s definitely not an every day step. Most of the time I just use water and a cloth.
    The lace up shoes thing is about being prepared for anything that might happen in your day like leaving quickly if the school calls about a sick kid, or you need to pick up something from the store or if you’re like me not procrastinate about getting the washing in the line. Small actions that have lots of knock-on effects. You will find little tweaks to make and what works for you if you keep going with it, but the baby steps are a great intro to the concepts. Once you finish the baby steps you should have the start of some really good habits started. Signing up for the emails can get a bit much but I like using the app so I can skip or read the daily notes when I want. Keep going you’re doing great.

  • @eSusan12

    This is a great next step, to keep your hard work going! You don’t have to clean the sink with bleach every night, it is more just cleaning it out and wiping it down. Routines are so important. You are working so hard, it is awesome.

    I found Flylady in 2004, but I've been flying and crashing ever sense. She really helped me though my 2006 stillbirth. It's cool, because as you mention each baby step, I'm like...yeah! I do that. I have that habit. Shoes, usually sink, but I need to out 2 minute hit spot back into my life. I'm looking forward to Fridays now and your video

    I agree with some of you other commenters. UA-camr Diane in Denmark is waaaayyyyy easier to follow than the actually Fly Lady web site. Someone needs to declutter and clean up that web site! It's confusing and difficult to negotiate. I started with FL about 20 years ago. I didn't stick with it 100%, but I have relied on a timer ever since. It really helps keep me focused on the task at hand. Keep up the good work. Baby steps.

  • @n2wabbit
    @n2wabbit 4 роки тому +5

    I'm much older than you and I still use the Fly Lady some. I can't stand getting up in the morning with a sink full of dirty dishes in the sink so the last thing I do is make sure it is clean before bed. No, I don't shine it every night but I make sure it is free of dishes and then I clean it out with dish soap and a scrubby then wiped dry. The Fly Lady is all about habits, they are still habits but more productive. The method teaches you and trains your brain to realize how much you can get done in the two minutes time. For me I know I can clean my sink and load the dishwasher in two minutes. In another two minutes I can gather things off the counter and bag the trash, another two minutes I could sweep the floor. Depending on the time you have you can do what bothers you the most knowing it is only going to take you a few minutes. If I looked at my kitchen when it's totaled I feel defeated but knowing I can get it back in shape for less than ten minutes makes it manageable. I still set a timer for things I don't want to do and it helps, I just take it five or ten minutes at a time then let it go until next time.

    You could take some time on Sunday and set out (or hang in the closet) 5 outfits for the week. I do this and I think it takes less time overall because I'm already in outfit mindset. Plus it helps if you need a special outfit for later in the week, then you know if you need to do laundry before realizing, for example, at 11 pm that you need your green shirt for tomorrow but it's dirty!
    I think the idea of a clean sink is it makes you feel good so you feel accomplished and are more likely to keep the counters clean which spreads to the table, etc. It gives you a sense of motivation. When the whole house is a disaster, it's harder to start bc it all feels overwhelming and pointless.
    I use some of the steps but not others. I hate bleach so I use natural products! Tweak what you don't like to work for you!

    A key behind flylady is you can’t clean clutter. It’s just stuff that gets shifted around and homeless which I know a lot of us understand. I think sometimes you have to try different methods to get something to stick and click that works. I struggle with the kitchen and absolutely hate doing dishes so I totally get why it’s such an accomplishment in that system. I haven’t had a dishwasher for decades which doesn’t help either but just gotta keep on going.

    So to sanitize the sink you can replace bleach with peroxide or Listerine. To get the rust spots off I find a metal scrubber like s.o.s. pads or steel wool and scrub works like a charm. Also a quick spray and let it sit for a while works well. They sell little spray bottles of peroxide or make a bleach (a cap full) or vinegar (about half the bottle) and fill with water, and a small squeeze of dish soap mixed spray bottles is cheap and effective.

    • @eileencarroll6418
      @eileencarroll6418 4 роки тому +1

      Same here. I use dish soap 6 days and add baking soda to the dish soap once a week. Try a little straight vinegar on a toothbrush on rust stains. Or try some leftover cola. Or try baking soda paste on a toothbrush. If your sink tends to rust, dry off your sink and wipe down the faucet at the end of the evening and put out a fresh towel so you are ready for the next day.

    • @rainiebrit
      @rainiebrit 4 роки тому +1

      @@ahoardersheart Do not use baking soda and vinegar together. Baking soda is a base, while vinegar is an acid. When you combine them, you get water, carbon dioxide (the stuff in the bubbles in soda), and a liiiiittle bit of salt. Using one and then the other will work well. Baking soda is great for scrubbing and de-gunking, while vinegar is a great substitute for bleach for *most* household purposes. But really, basic soap and water does most of the work for germs.
      I just wanted to pop this in here so you don't try a baking soda/vinegar combo and get discouraged. You've been doing so much and you've come so far! We're all super proud of you! (I just binged like 30 of your videos in the past few days - great content!)

      @@ahoardersheart Maybe you can do a little research about environmental friendly/hypoallergen cleaning products and then do a little Konmari (use up, of course, but for example start with the ones that are almost empty! :) ) of the cleaning stuff that was under the kitchen sink... :) I just use liquid soap (not hand soap, but I don't know what it is called in English) or baking soda or vinegar to clean with. When we moved to this apartment, there were some products left, I have used them, because it seems wasteful to throw them out, but I don't buy any new products like bleach or chlorine. My son has asthma and we use washing powder without perfume, no softener. Of course that depends on the water hardness (I think?), but I have heard that softener are really bad for the environment. After dinner dishes are done, I add a bit warm water, make a paste and wipe out the cups with a soapy sponge, then scrub the sink with the same sponge. Vinegar and salt paste cleans the copper pot bottoms and also the hard water residue from the electric glass tea kettle. BTW, so many raved about Bar Keep powder... just got it (why?) Adopting FlyLady may be a little stressful while still facing so much decluttering.. just be sure not to let any ideals of perfection interfere with the progress you’ve steadily shown.
    I watch a few cleaning channels and the obsession with the sink kinda cracks me up. Whole sinkfuls of got water is just a waste. I am very limited on bleach use too. Pfft some barkeepers friend or bon ami, a scotchbrite pad and you’re fine 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess FL is why they’re always wearing shoes in their videos too. Can’t stand shoes being worn throughout the house!
    I think the main thing is to think of the system as a *guideline* that you adapt in whatever ways work best for you and your home 💕🦄

      Absolutely!!!! I definitely will try it out and adjust it to my lifestyle and routines! Like, I’m not using bleach anymore because I don’t like it. And I will not be wearing my shoes as soon as it gets to 60 degrees or above!! Lol I like being barefoot in the house!! Plus, we do take our shoes off as soon as we walk in the door! So even in the winter we wear socks or slippers in the house! Thank you so so much my friend 💜🦄💜

      @@ahoardersheart This is not too much for you because we're ignoring the clutter during baby steps. The morning and evening routines are KEYSTONE TASKS (my term) because if you don't do these routines it will prevent you from doing other things that will make you feel good. The clutter may accumulate dust but it won't make other things worse. If you don't load your dishwasher (give yourself permission to run loads that are not completely full) and run your dishwasher at night, you won't be able to put away clean dishes in the morning. If you don't empty your dishwasher in the morning, dirty dishes will accumulate in sink and on counter. Without a dishwasher, same process, but drip drying clean dishes on the counter to be put away 1st thing in the morning. Trash removal was a KEYSTONE TASK where I needed to be dressed to shoes AND BRA in case my neighbors saw me taking my trash out. (flip flops or clogs--never laces). If I was sick and did not take out my trash, trash would accumulate on the countertop--YUCH! Meanwhile, static clutter did not make things worse. Building Flylady habits is all about making things easier and feeling good about yourself. Eventually you will get to the clutter, but only 15 minutes at a time.
      Now is the time to congratulate yourself for a job well done and enjoy your shiny sink. 😁👍

I think she means get dressed for the day. We tend to feel better about ourselves when we aren’t just in our pajamas all day. At least I do. Her zone cleaning schedule really works for me. But I’m wondering : you are working 5-6 days a week, bringing your kids to sport, cleaning out things and maintaining it alone? Is your husband involved in home chores? Are your children preparing their things and cleaning their room or do you put it all on yourself ? There is no judging here, but I have 3 kids and my tendency was to do it all myself and I go exhausted until I allowed myself to let / tell people to each do his part. Which has made everyday routine way easier.
    Keep your movement, it’s a long process but then what a change in someone’s life 😊

    I just started the Flylady you don't have to shine your sink with bleach. What I do is I have an empty spray bottle add half with water, 1tsp of liquid soap, and then add the rest with vinegar, put the spray back on give a couple of shakes. Then I spray the sink and then clean the sink. When I am done rinse with water and then spray with windex. Afterward, take a paper towel and dry the sink then you are left with a shiny sink.

    OK, I haven't read all the comments but just going to say right off the bat: I don't use Bleach in my sink except in extreme circumstances. Also Bleach breaks down faster in hot water so it doesn't disinfect as well in it (not to mention it makes the fumes worse). I use Peroxide to disinfect my sink. Slap a spray nozel on the brown bottle and spritz it down let it sit 5-10 mins or until dry.
    Wash your sink plugs under the black gasket and then spray them down with it. So satisfying
    Edit: Try Barkeepers Friend for the rusty spots

      So far from what I've seen of this video, I'm underwhelmed by this process. (Not your work HH.)
      So you clean your sink then put on shoes, spend a bunch of time reading, then 2 minutes work on your catch all?
      I like the 2 minute catch all, but after a week the only thing accomplished is a clean sink & a smidge less clutter.
      Day 2 could've been read the stuff & sweep the floor in 1 room. Day 3 could've been dust the fireplace mantle. Clean the mirror in 1 bathroom.
      Not knocking the positive affirmations since that may help a lot of people, but this feels like wading through molasses to get a house cleaning routine.

      Mz Stitcher the thing is this is for people who have lived in CHAOS (can’t have anyone over syndrome) for so long that they are afraid if child PS accidentally knocked on their door they are afraid of what would happen. This is for people who are really stuck and who need baby steps to get out. Most people are not that far gone but believe me some of us need told to put on our shoes and get off the couch. My brother is a cop one time he dropped over when I wasn’t home and he thought I got burglarized. Flylady net changed my life❤️

    • @texadianstitcher
      @texadianstitcher 4 роки тому +2

      @@marylober3005 I know someone who is afraid of people coming over.
      The 6 feet of visible baseboard always needed to be cleaned, but I doubt any visitor would notice the baseboard when boxes were stacked 3 feet high everywhere & you were lucky if there was room for 2 people to sit down.
      They finally had some stuff reorganized to allow a walker to maneuver through the walkways.
      They preferred to oil their wood furniture than spend the 2 minutes to determine that the 20 year old bottle of salad dressing needed to be tossed. Yes, salad dressing from 1999 (or was it 98? Doesn't matter, its 20 years old) was in their fridge.
      I'm honestly surprised family services was never called on them once their health declined & the state of the house was more "public" (medical staff started to come in).
      Compared to some houses on hoarders, this is probably a 7 for how bad it is.
      An affirmation wasn't going to help this person. (They need a psychologists help for hoarding. But they're not ready for that.) But having a mopped or vacuumed floor, clean mirrors or those 6 feet of baseboard clean made them feel better about their house.
      So that's why I'm saying do something small every day + affirmation. The something small could just be wipe down the fridge or dishwasher. Put away 1 piece of clean laundry. Put toilet paper on the hanger. Disinfect your tv remote or oven handle. Move the box of cereal from by the front door into the kitchen. Push in your chairs at the table.
      Is my house perfect? Nope, kitty who has incontinence issues peed on a towel after I put her other peed on towel in the wash. The house looks like its hoarded because i cant let her on every surface. But I can uncover surfaces when we have company in minutes & the house doesn't smell like we have a cat peeing on towels every 6 hours to 7 days. So I consider that a win.
