thank you Randy for this video. I have this exact machine w/case, accessories & extension table. (one of my 8 Kennies) I missed out on the timing tool but will order one from the manufacturer. thanks for heads up on this....
You’re welcome. Having that tool available to us regular folks has been long overdue. Special Thanks to Accurate Machine company in Fort Worth for helping to correct that problem. Thanks for watching.👍😎
You’re welcome. I was prompted to make this video. It only makes sense though. If you’ve got the tool, you might as well know how to use it properly. 👍😎
Good morning. I learn so much from your videos. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. I am looking at a Kenmore 1756 (seeing it online). It will include the cams and booklet. Based on everything I can find, I am thinking this is a 158 series? Do you have any suggestions or advice, before I take a ride to see in person? Thanks in advance.
Hi Randy, great tool there, wish I had grabbed one! question, when loosening that bolt to enable rotating the shaft that drives the hook, would that not also mess with the timing of the feed dogs? I'm pretty new to all this so a little confused. Thanks!
@@dag4321 the adjustment will be minuscule and won’t affect the feeders. Always assume that the problem is not a timing issue and look elsewhere for the solution. One out of a million is out of timing.
The 645 has composite, non metal gears that are replaceable if you can find the hard, white nylon gears. They aren’t well made gears, and are noisy and annoying. I won’t install them anymore. Some manufacturers in foreign lands are trying to understand the meaning of “round”. It’s a conceptual thing for them.
nice video. I got rusted seized Kenmore 148.13101. I had to move cams to clean it. Now all moving but out of order, fabric doesn't move forward. Any advice please?
I Hi. I really like your video. have a Kenmore 158.18033. Apparently the timing bolt has changed with this model. I can’t find anything like it is in your machine. The timing doesn’t look to be off as per your example of the shuttle hook but my needle is WAY above the hook. I have had this machine since it was born in 1974…..still have the receipt😊. It has been thru hundreds of moves coast to coast and in between. So maybe? the needle got off, but it still sews pretty well , but lately I cant sew on a particular fabric…major skips. I’m now afraid to mess with the needle height tho. Any suggestions?
@@chucklesreader8494 get a specialty needle for problem fabrics. Singer needle model 2045, or ….. Schmetz needle labeled STRETCH. Either of those in a size 14 will, most likely, solve your problem.
Thanks. I will try to find those. I did get the Schmetz labeled microtex (sharp) and it helped a bit. It’s a weird sort of stretchy but jacket type material. Not thick at all. And even difficult to get straight pins into. Thank you.
@@Anon20139 it shouldn’t increase. The chances of both settings being off are extremely slim. But if the movement of the needle creates a gap between the needle and the hook, loosen the set screw that holds the entire hook assembly and move it in line with the needle. It shouldn’t be more than a millimeter, if that.
Hi there! I have a 168.14301 and the needle will not move up and down at all after oiling. When pushing the pressure foot the wheel only moves backwards towards me. But needle still does not move. Thank you -Brooke
Usually a severe needle strike (on the needle plate, presser foot, or hook), or a high speed thread jam could cause the timing to get disturbed. It’s a rare occurrence but it does happen.
Wow, your timing for uploading this video was spot on! Thanks again.
You’re welcome. Timing was good for the timing video. 😂😎👍🏼
Good video. Very helpful video. Now I know how to make use of the socket tool.
Next purchase: The Klein tool. WooHoo! Excellent stuff sir.
I use that Klein tool so often it’s like an extra appendage.
You can’t have too many cool tools.
That’s my story and I’m sticking with it. 😎👍🏼

Thanks, Randy. I was thinking last night I might need to ask how to do this if my machines needed it.
Yes. It’s only logical to show you how to use it. I’m glad someone reminded me to do it. 👍😎
Much appreciated!

Why thank you for that lead on the tool ! They have it on Amazon btw! Your videos are super !
Thanks Ninjanana. What search terms did you use? I’m only finding my videos on Amazon. Thanks
Awesome video! Thanks for the info! 👍

Speaking of plastic gears, does the singer 645 have plastic drive gears? If so, are they available to replace? Thank you.

Your reverse mechanism is stuck.
I have a video on how to remedy that issue.
It’s somewhere among the 405 videos. Good luck.

Your hand wheel clutch isn’t tight or is not assembled properly.
Just curious, what would make these machines go out of time?
