None of the trade talk passes the smell test. This is an odd draft and I think the teams are as confused as we are - when there isn't clear cut information people tend to just stay the course. I think the Rockets want established players - not additional picks. I just don't see anything happening.
Rockets are in good shape just missing a few more players. Leaving the bridge holders out - FVV, Adams, & Brooks. Bigs - Smith and Sengun. Need a third player like Sarr to rotate with them. Wings - Green, Eason and Cam. PG - Amen. Need a point guard. If Amen is a going to be a wing, then need two point guards. The question who to draft comes down to the direction the team wants to go. Bigs - Sarr is a the perfect fit as he can play both center and PF. But Sarr will most likely not be available. Clingan, like Sengun is more of a true center. As for point guard, do the Rockets want offense - Reed or defense - Castle. Knowing Ime, it is defense. If the Rockets think Amen will be a point guard for them, then they could use a wing. Risarcher would be great, but also probably not available.
Assuming Sarr and Risarcher are off the table, I would draft Clingan for two reasons. 1) This is a good year for centers and he would easily slide into the backup role that Adams will soon vacate. 2) They can still trade him as the teams that missed out scramble. Personally, don't want Anfernee. Yes, he is a good player, but you could draft Reed and get a better shooter. I really think the Rockets are going to trade and are currently accepting offers. Final decision to be made draft day. Personally, I would go for Portland's 7th and 14th. Fair price for a move up to 3rd. Then draft Carter to be the backup point guard at 7 and a big at 14. Personally, a home run for me would be Topic at 7 and Edey at 14.
Honestly, I think it should be between cam or Jalen, if they can possibly play alongside each other and be a great backcourt together matching up with Sengun and bari on the front court, this team will be scary. Just need that big man rim protector and I think we could be set for a long run this season, at least 1st round, hoping for WCF

No we are not trading up to #2. There's no sense in that.
IF Atlanta does not take Sarr Which is entirely possible considering the guy will not work out in Atlanta at all then they either are gonna move to ZR or Clingan.
Let's say Atlanta takes Clingan.....then Washington gets Sarr then Houston gets their turn.... Who you gonna take then.
With 7 and 14 we could possibly even still get Reed Sheppard and then use 14 to pick somebody like Kel'el Ware or Zach Edey.

While KOC is "plugged in" I watched that vid and he is really just echoing the fact that Simons might be traded. The laughable return was just him not giving it much thought or knowing little about the Blazers. If you really want someone "plugged in" to the Blazers look to Jonathan Givony, as he and Mike Schmitz (Blazers Asst GM) are very close. 😄

As a Blazers fan, I agree that would be an absolutely massive overpay for #3. IF Risacher falls to 3, which I doubt happens... Simons, #14, #34 & #40 is the most I'm offering, if I'm Joe Cronin. Take it or leave it. I haven't looked much into what salary would be coming back from HOU though.

It feels like they're trying to trade down for Dalton Knecht (or some other lower rated prospect). Ultimately, if thats who they like most they should do it at whatever pick they have. Just look back at how Warriors didnt get Ty Haliburton at 2 because they couldnt trade back even though they liked him more. I get the concern about Knechts age, but Jalen Williams for OKC came out as a Junior and has been a stud immediately.

I think this is Jabari Smith all over again, where he was the consensus 1st pick of the draft, then it changes in the last minute because of the gambling involvement. There were a lot of smokescreens right before the draft and the rockets were projected to draft PB at that time. Funny thing is that we also own the 3rd pick at that time.
I love Smith. Already a 14/8 guy. Will soon be a 20/10. Rather have him than Pablo.

Do you want this team to be a bottom ten shooting team indefinitely. Sengun, Amen, Jalen etc are all guys that can’t shoot so you need players that can compensate for their weaknesses in that department. Holland does the exact opposite.
Not only does Holland have such a weak jumper that teams will wall off the paint and let him clank a 3s all day. But he also has major tunnel vision and is an ineffective playmaker, and his defense is not particularly great either

Blazers finally commit to young core.
Trading away talented veterans so the younger players can get minutes on the court. This team will never contend as is, a imminent blow up is obvious. Compensated with promising young players and a slew of picks.
Rockets hand the keys over to Darius Garland.
Rockets acquire a young and talented point guard to be a corner stone of a rebuild. They currently have the #3 pick in the draft and this trade nets them #7 as well. They could keep the picks and go all in on a youth movement or they could look to double dip and flip some new assets for Mikal Bridges after this trade is finished.
Cleveland onboards new talent.
Obviously the pair of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland didn’t workout. Cleveland gets deeper by landing two legitimate NBA caliber starters in Grant and Brogdon. This team desperately needs wing play and Jeremi Grant can provide that. Landing Malcom Brogdon allows Donovan Mitchell to play off ball and conserve energy and not run himself ragged trying to do everything. Both players shoot the deep ball well and stretch the floor. With the 47th pick they can scoop up Bronny James and potentially get both James Sr and Jr in a return to Cleveland.
Orlando gets a brand new talented backcourt.
Orlando is building something great. The two way play is exciting to watch. Fred VanVleet is a underrated defender and very skilled point guard with veteran experience that this team needs and Anfernee Simons is the offensive firepower answer.

On a previous episode Jackson compared keeping the draft pick to Peter Griffin choosing "the mystery box". This rebuild has made me addicted to the mystery box draft outcome. We know what Anfernee Simons is but we don't know what Reed Sheppard's ceiling is! Even if Reed Sheppard is a bust, I just have to know! It is not logical, but this is what a rebuild mentality does to a fan base.

Simons just averaged 22ppg and is only 25 years old he is 100000% the better choice over Reed Shepard
Simons plays no defense and is a one dimensional scorer and also ball dominant... Reed is great off ball spotting up a Much more efficient shooter a much better playmaker much better defender and higher iq player. Simons is only a better pure scorer and shot creator which is what the rockets don't need right now over Shep who can be a real floor general, potential to be one of the greatest shooters EVER, and make defensive plays. Its like taking Colin Sexton over FVV just not logical lol I don't even have to mention Reed being way cheaper.
The Rockets will pick a big. Athleticism and length. The Rockets need to add size we are too short. We need a shot blocking big.

They need shooting more than anything. Look at the teams that made playoffs and look at the teams that were good at shooting. Basically nearly all the good shooting teams made playoffs and nearly every single bad shooting team missed the playoffs.
Rockets were awful at shooting last year, so draft a shooter. And besides you already have two really good centers in Sengun and Adams anyway
Dude do you not see what Ime is doing? He is the template for Boston's success. Simons is a Derrick White, as just as athletic. He plays defense, but most coaches don't know how to use him. Ime does. They'll have size especially with Adams coming. Get ya popcorn ready.

@@cameronkersey3150 if he doesn't get a big pay day, it will be more than what they may offer, because the idea for most players are be in a competitive environment, and unfortunately that's not in Portland at the time. I wanna see them pull it off, because Simons skills aren't being utilized in Portland. I'd hate to see him, just evaporate from the league.
This would make no sense for two reasons.
1. If the hawks want Clingen, than they would trade down with the spurs because he would be available at 4. Clingen going fist is just unlikely.
2. The wizards would only trade down with the spurs, if Sarr was already picked by the Hawks.
So the scenario where the hawks pick Clingen #1 is unlickely because they would just trade down with the spurs. And if the Hawks would decide to draft Clingen, than the wizards would not trade there pick with the spurs because it seems like they like Sarr the most. They would only trade their pick if Sarr was already picked.
There is just no chance Sarr gets passed the wizards

The Rockets NEED to draft a shooter. The Rockets ranked 23rd in 3pt % which is awful.
Only 2 out of 16 teams (Cleveland and Orlando) made playoffs without decent shooting, while the other 14 were at least average at shooting.
Only 1 team in the top ten for shooting failed to make playoffs and that was Golden State.
Case in point: No Shooting = No Playoffs
This team needs shooting. Drafting another guy especially at the wing that cannot space the floor will mean that the offense will fail next year. Also you CANNOT rely on FA to bring in a shooter because guys in FA may not want to come to Houston for a multitude of reasons such as money, minutes etc…
Just draft Reed or trade down for Knecht
Draft Clingan because we don't want to depend on Jock plus we don't know how healthy Adams is going to be.
The Rockets just need to go Sheppard (or Sarr if available) and call it a day. If they can pull a nice deal for Knecht and more draft capital, I'd be okay with that as well.
Shepard is 6’1 180 pounds and only 19 years old. Rockets need a win now player not another project
Size doesn't matter, he's amazing at getting steals and defensive playmaking he'll be a better defender than FVV definitely while having potential to be a top 3 shooter in the league

Small players that are insanely skilled do really well in the NBA meanwhile we have super athletes that bust every draft cycle like Johnny Flynn who was taken ahead of Steph Curry due to having better athleticism.
The Rockets have plenty of size and athleticism. But they lack skill, so bring in the thing that is lacking rather than emphasizing the same archetype of player past the point of diminishing returns

I swear if they bring in Smart who can’t shoot and is washed, I’m gonna hurl. If they do that it means that anything they don’t give a shit about shooting despite that fact that almost every good shooting team made playoffs while nearly every bad shooting team missed playoffs

RS is serviceable on D, playmaking upside and almost immediately becomes a top 10 shooter in the league. He’s exactly what we need - think he’ll make for an elite 6 man. All you can ask out of this draft…
I have Clingan at 13 on my board because I don’t value drop bigs as much as players who can play more than 20 to 3 minutes. I would trade down if they want Clingan and he could be there at 3,4 or later. I like Stephon Castle or Sarr who are more likely to be Starrs.

If Sarr doesn't fall to #3 OR Houston doesn't trade up to #1 for Sarr (assuming Atlanta wants Clingan), I really like Sheppard. If the pick is Sheppard, I'm hoping Ime & Staff can coach up his point-of-attack defense and Defensive Physicality (Sheppard routinely shies away from contact on defense). Sheppard tested well in lateral drills at the NBA Combine, and a 42" inch vertical is very encouraging. I'm Excited to see who Houston picks on June 26.
Everyone in Portland was talking about that trade too. People were furious with that guy most people inside organizations think Simon's is probably worth two first and a young flyer. That's the most lopsided ridiculous trade I've heard in quite some time. I'm glad you took the realistic approach and discuss some things that might actually happen.

I love the idea of reed Sheppard but I just wish he was just more of a true point guard. We thought amen had pg handles but he doesn't. What if reed doesn't either. Not a good draft, but that has been said.

Portland would trade #7 & #14, if they could get Clingan. I really like Sheppard but his lack of size and wingspan make him a defensive liability. Opposing teams will hunt Sheppard (There's a Reason Payton Pritchard very few minutes in the NBA Finals). Sheppard was routinely getting beaten at the point-of-attack at Kentucky. Alex Sarr needs to be developed offensively but he does fit Ime's defensive culture. Castle lacks the athleticism to be a NBA-level shot creator, he's a poor shooter, and he's an average playmaker (Sheppard has innate & better playmaking skills than Castle). If Alex Sarr doesn't fall to #3, I really hope Houston trades the Pick, and just target the awesome upcoming prospects in the 2025 Draft.
