Owning an older truck has to be the most expensive and trying apprenticeship any mechanic could undergo. You have come up the hard way. This was an exceptional video. Very instructional. I learned a lot today.

The best way for a mechanic to start is at a shop that mostly works on older trucks. It’s hard, it sucks, but you learn.

Get the push on lug nut covers. They make the cylinder style like the screw ons, but they push on.

I’ll probably do a whole suspension overhaul on my 579 after I get it paid off next month. Replace leaf springs hangers u bolts frame torque rods shocks hub bearings and shocks.

Based on the fact one of my semi truck’s shocks was already leaking are 225k and car/pickup shocks are worn out at 100k I’d replace at least those on a steer axle EVERY year

It's either your king pins, alignment, or shock's. I just had the same issue with my front end on my KW T660. IT was on the passenger side. I had the front end alignment done 2 week's and solved that issue of it wearing out on the inside of the tire. The shop did say the King pin on that same side will need to be done by the end of the summer along with spring pins. And yes those cenitracs ring balancer's work great. My buddy has a w900 with them on front to back. It felt like riding in a car.

💖 Your steers will continue to wear the inside of your tires if your kingpins are going out and when you crank the truck have someone sit inside and turn the wheel as far as the wheel will turn and kinda keep popping it like boom boom boom as if it’s not going to turn no farther and at the same time you need to be standing outside your truck with your hood open with your head down around your steer listening to any sounds or anything popping and have them continue to turn it back and forth both ways
But regardless if you are not doing it right and you are having your steers wearing inside like that
    ITS YOUR KINGPINS
You need a press some patience and a torch
But this girl knows a thing or two
Great job and good video you are doing well taking care of your equipment

Did you balance the inside drives and steers when you put the centramatics on? The plates are only good for 8 or 10 ounces I believe, especially drives vibrations are like electricity it can effect all that are connected would hate to see all the effort to fall short.

Popping in front is probably the king pins. Your steer is running inside from the steering metal u can see it running on inside of driver tire steer

Centromatics sure do look cool. Hopefully this fixed your shaking. I know I still got a long ways to go but what I have is tolerable.

The reason for your steering’s wearing down like that is the leaf spring bushing excatly what u replaced reason why it’s that cause it takes it out of alignment cause it’s moving side to side when u turn and it stays yo the side u turned once u turn to the other side same thing it messes with your alignment

I use centromatics and I don't balance any of my tires including steers. Only thing I do is get 3 axle alignment every time I get new tires. Save your money on balancing the tires.

Agreed! I had same problem with Bridgestone 45k miles and they wouldn't warranty them even though I had good alignment with paperwork, new shocks etc... and the new replacement steers had no wear at 40k, and still no wear after 100k

I'd HIGHLY recommend watching whom ever does your wheel/ tires because that pilot pad/lip is gone because they installed tires wrong and ground the lip down tightening the lug nuts incorrectly. Wheels don't move on the hub, so that wear should not have happened!
