I'm too young to remember its height of popularity (I'm 20), but my parents passed down their childhood reels to us. My siblings and I would play with these for hours. So cool! Thank you for the video :)
I remember these little disks that could take you places far and strange with the push of the advance lever. It made me wonder how this was done and if I could do it myself. However, the siren call of real film cameras called, so I put the View Master aside to record life with Ye Olde Yashica 44.;)
Love this film about VM. Got a like of your bakelite one at home . You show great stereo discs of NY City. As late as 2002 in New York Grand Central, I met a guy doing stereo pics with an old American Stereo camera. In Black and White.
Hi, how are you videoing the inside of the view-master, is this an effect or have you used some type of camera? I'm doing a project whereby I need to video the slides of each image within the view-master. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
01:09 The background appears closer than the foreground. I use the "crosseyed" method to view these image pairs. Edit: 01:18 The ship view is the same. This looks to be the very model I had. My parents knew I was bright, and did their best with educational toys, but I only ever had two discs. One was bird colonies at Ascension Island, can't recall the other. In my thirties, I gave it away to a younger relative. Now regret that.
The viewers that came later were not as well made. The reel-advancing mechanism would often wind up failing mechanically rendering the viewer pretty much useless. Thanks for the video. (Btw, "travelogue" can also mean travel within one's own country, which is why the word "foreign" likely was added to distinguish travel in the USA from travel to other countries.) I still have some of the reels I got back in the mid-50's. The color has held up well. Not so much the reels produced in the 70's, all of which are full of very faded, red images that are all but un-viewable: The film stock used was no longer the older, stable Kodachrome.
Thankyou for making this video. I'm from India. I was looking for the name of this toy. So many memories. ❤️
No worries my man, glad you enjoyed it.
This one is my all time favourite,,🙂
:) Cheers

That's cool. I've never met anyone using a stereo camera. Glad you enjoyed it.

Hey. View master positioned with the viewfinder up. attahced to a tripod. Pointing the camera inside the viewfinder. Light behind. That's it really.
Welcome to the 50's Metaverse
how did you get the images inside the stereoscope? with normal cameras, only the outside (the lens) is focused, not the inside image…
Hey, I just pointed my mirrorless camera down the eye piece. Simple as that
Had this same model, gave it away with dozens of reels to a young relative, still regret it today.
aaah, shame. I had a couple of them as a kid but my brother destroyed them to see how they work..

Sure the shots are alike? To me one seems slightly shifted.
By the way... VW disks were often advertised in the German edition of "Micky Maus"
...I've got the Green Hornet TV series dating back to 1967...
That's cool!
