      Daan Willemsen This is not true. Rail Baltic will have 150-170 km/h train wich are from far considered as fast train. Everywhere in Europe are alrrady 250-300 km/h available. Even in Marocco! I was happy and supported Rail Baltic until thd moment they annonced they will NOT build a fast track for fast train. This is not only stupid but silly.

    I've done Estonia and Lithuania twice & Latvia Once. I love the Baltic States.
    Some extras from my POV. In Tallin try and find the "Kick in de Kock" bar set into the hillside the castle is on. It's a narrow, tiny little bar set in an old ammo store for the Castle. In the middle of town there is "Peppersack" and "Old Hansa" now both of these are really touristy but well worth a visit. At PS if you book a table for the evening then you'll get a surprise ( family friendly) show during dinner. I won't spoil it by telling you what it is. Old Hansa is rustic beyond belief in all the furniture, decoration the works. You actually sit on a throne when you go to the bathroom ( Boys and Girls) and the quality of the food and size of the 'feast' portions are staggering and well worth the price.
    In Lithuania well a MUST is the 'Museum of Occupation and Freedom Fights'. I have visited every single country that used to be behind 'the Iron Curtain' and by far this is the best, most in depth and at times quite harrowing museum of it's kind. You can easily spend 2-3 hours there and not even realise you've done so. It's fine for kids, and I think an important place to visit to educate them about what went on, but maybe don't take them into the basement/ cells area( but DO pop down there yourselves. They actually have staff who will keep an eye on the little ones while you do so, well we saw it happen both times we've visited). Don't forget to order your beer by the litre at many bars in Vilnius where if they think you can be trusted they will deliver up to 3.5 litres of beer in a massive freestanding tube with taps on it so you can pour it as you like.
    We nicknamed Vilnius "The Church City" there are hundreds of them and you will see amazing cadillac, hummer, rolls royce and even Zill limo's ferrying wedding parties around town all the time.
    CAUTION: If you visit Tookia by train it is about a 45 ( adult speed) minute walk from the nearest station. You do get to see some real Lithuania along the way but it is a bit of a trek. You can get bus trips from a thousand companies in Vilnius and most hotels will arrange them for you and have you picked up/ dropped off at or near the hotel.
    The War / Remembrance Memorial in the centre of Riga is beautiful. Our hotel was on the square overlooking it. Rozengrals is also a must visit for period banquets and super tasty food.

    We absolutely loved our time in the Baltics. Among the things not mentioned that we found fascinating was the Ninth Fort in Kaunus. A very real history of Lithuania through the years of Russian, German, and Communist abuse. Take the time and see it. A couple of hour was about all we could spend, but it overwhelmed us.
    Another, if you venture to the sea, besides the Hill of Crosses, was the Cold War Museum - which is a former Soviet ICBM launch site. Beautiful area and fascinating if you are into that sort of things.

    I was there almost 20 years ago before they became tourist hot spots. I would add the city of Kaunas the old capital of Lithuania as another good place to spend a day or two. Also, of the three countries, I would definitely say Lithuania has the best food. Very similar to stick-to-the-ribs good Polish food.

    I doubt there are many Art Nouveau buildings in the old town of Riga. Namely they are in the adjancent "New Town". Old towns in Europe are most times of medieval origin and older. Art Nouveau came in fashion around 1900, the time of many city expansions called 'New Town'.

    First of all sorry for my english. I think soon or later the Baltic States become very popular in the tourism because Europe isnt just only London, Paris or Milan. In the history the Baltic States were been occupated by Soviet Union - Russia so these countries has been deleted from the map and now they want that all the world could know about them at least where it's. I'm lithuanian and when foreigners asked me where I'm from so from reaction I can say that they dont know nothing and feels that you're from the Mars, haha. It's sad because we have very deep history like in the medievel age Lithuania has been such a big, strong country between two seas that's why Vilnius is very historical city so go the duke palace where you will find it. Lithuania doesnt have any mountains ( but we love it, haha ) but our nature is very simple and beautiful of many lakes, rivers, forest. If you want to know something more about my country so go to this page ua-cam.com/video/WH9mTk1mxkI/v-deo.html where you will find it everything from the history to national foods, places and so on. Some lithuanian lesson: hello - labas, thank you - ačiū, bye - iki

    • @riproar11
      @riproar11 4 роки тому +1

      If you like to visit museums then you'll need two days in each. Tallinn old town is not very large so on a day trip you can walk through all of it in 4-5 hours. I recommend climbing lots of stairs to the top of St. Olaf's church to get a great view and photos of the city. And you need to climb the stairs to the top of Toompea Hill to get that classic view of Tallinn.
      Riga is a much larger city where you'll need two days to see just some of it. You need to go to the top of St. Peter's church for a great view of the city and boat ride on the Daugava River at sunset for a great, relaxing experience. Do a day trip to Jurmala beach to see the nice town and powdery soft sandy beaches with pine trees. Another must is take a bus trip to Sigulda to see three large castle ruins, beautiful flower and sculpture gardens and a gondola ride way up.
      Vilnius is larger than Tallinn and can be walked through in a day, but you need to visit the castle Trakai. I unfortunately only had a day there and it rained hard so I didn't get to see that much.

      It really depends what you want to see and where you want to go (From an Estonian Local). Tallinn has a lot of things to offer, most of them aren’t flooded with tourists. Best one’s are, Sea Plane Harbour, KUMU, Kadriorg Palace and KGB museum, though there are loads more which are really worth visiting. In summer, Tallinn is really nice for walks too. Walking along from the Olympic Harbour all the way down Pirita beach or walking round Kadriorg. You could even take a day trip to Tartu, and go to the Estonian national museum or AHHAA science centre. You could visit Estonia’s beauty sites. Best places are the National Parks, though if you go down south, you can see the best untouched landscapes of Estonia. I don’t know about Latvia or Lithuania besides the obvious tourist hotspots, but I’m sure there are a lot of thing to do there. There’s a lot more to the Baltic’s than what meets the tourist eyes.

    • @RolandBizjets
      @RolandBizjets 4 роки тому +2

      Duane Bickford LuxExpress and Simple express. Just check their websites.
      Also, I think you can take trains from Estonia to Latvia and vice versa.
      But you would have to make a change and cross the borderline on foot (there’s no actual border with customs. No passport check, nothing) and take a train from there.
      In this case, take a train from Tallinn to Valga, cross the barder and take a train from Valka to Riga. Schedules are purposely made for connection between the trains.
      Important thing. For buying tickets for local coaches and trains, you go to ticket office.
      For buying tickets for international rides, it’s better done online.
