@@WillRock07it becomes understandable when you realize all the Skylar haters are just teenagers. I used to be a hater but began to understand her once I grew up
the show is largely shown from walt's point of view. which is why even though people see him as a villain, they still have that kind of 'underdog rooting for for walt' vibe. the audience sees skyler as a reason for walts eventual downfall and failure. if we look at it from skyler's perspective, we have a lying husband who'd rather risk endangering himself and his family than accept money from others which would bruise his ego. an example of this is when walt finally confesses he did the whole thing for himself, we as an audience almost feel glad for walt, even though hes just admitted how selfish and cruel he actually has been the last 2 years. the show will or always portray walt in a better light as its based around him supposedly 'leaving money for his family'.
You underestimate the amount of controlling stuff she did before she even had a hunch he was selling drugs. There's also the part where she had the chance to divorce him but decided to stick around for the money, only losing it when things got too hot for her. ...Or what about the part where she ONLY cheated on Walt and manipulated her boss as collateral just to hurt Walt? She could have left long ago.
She could have shut her mouth, been his wife, and we’d all be fine now. But No! She just had to blow it up. Her and her pride and her ego. She just had to be the man!
Many individuals unjustly despise Skyler for the wrong reasons. The show primarily focuses on the perspective of Walter White, causing viewers to overlook the daily struggles of Skyler's life and the extent of deception and betrayal she has endured from her husband. If the show had dedicated more screen time to portraying Skyler's experiences and the immense heartache caused by Walter's actions, the audience would undoubtedly sympathize with her. In truth, Skyler no longer loves Walt. Her husband's deceitfulness began when he concealed his cancer diagnosis for weeks and continued as he regularly disappeared for hours, reappearing late at night. His emotional distance and strained relationship with Skyler grew gradually. Moreover, for an entire year, Walter refused to communicate, rendering himself emotionally unavailable and distant. This contrasted starkly with the man Skyler had married 15 years prior; he was now unrecognizable. It is no surprise that she sought solace in the company of Ted Beneke. Ted provided the emotional support and presence that Walter failed to offer. Despite Walter's attempts to justify his actions under the guise of "supporting his family," the stark reality remains that he neglected his wife for an extended period of time. Skyler is an intelligent woman, and it was not a matter of if she would uncover the truth, but rather a matter of when.
I disagree, I think you see plenty of Skyler's perspective during the show and it's one where she is desperate for everything to be under her domestic sphere of control, and it has toxified her family environment. Walt is not really a husband or a father, but someone just living in this domestic environment that Skyler has manufactured for all of them. On top of that you have Hank openly humiliating Walt, where Skyler does nothing to come to his defence, or to empower him at all. I find it surprising more people defend Skyler, as if she's somehow an innocent, where if genders were reversed Skyler would be seen as very hounding and possessive character who was obsessed with what her partner was always doing, and going on about themselves constantly. Double standards for men and women I think.
@@IronThreads8-h9p Skyler has a wife and mother definitely had her flaws, but Walter flaws trumps over any kind of flaw Skyler may have lacked. Yes, Skyler can be seen in the first episode as being very controlling. But I believe people misjudge this notion. Skyler tracks credit cards, phone calls, and openly confronts Walt’s contacts because, she is smart. Skyler is a very vigilant, observing partner. As soon as Walter starts to change, she catches on quick. If anything, this shows her love and care for her husband. Had she been a dumb blond bimbo who could care less about her husband, the show wouldn’t have any stakes. But it’s the fact that she observes the subtle changes that make her into a very caring partner and mother. Skyler has tried to openly have serious conversation with Walt’s behaviors. She does everything in her power to bring that beloved husband she knew for so many years. But that same man was no longer there. She may as well have been talking to a stranger. To a brick wall. She’s not a innocent housewife. She conspired with Walt’s crimes and helped and even laundered his money for him. She’s an accessory after the fact. But she was also put into an unwindable position from the start. By the time she found out, Walt had already associated himself with high level players like Gus, and has spend a year paying off their mortgage with illicit drug money. She goes to the police, the situation will go from bad to worse. The house will be taken away by the government, the DEA will fire Hank, her children will grow up thinking that their mother put their father in jail. For what is worth, Walt joined the criminal underworld to create his own form of cancer to get back at the world. Skyler did it to keep her family save. Something Walt neglected the day he decided to sell meth.
@@Tripod9648 She tracks him because she's suspicious of any independent or assertive behaviour that doesn't involve her. She basically is affronted that he might have any life outside of the family inbetween work and taking Walt Jr. to school. He has no hobbies or interests that we can see, and really doesn't do much else. If a woman was in such a situation we would say this is low-key abuse and certainly toxic. Skyler is smart, but in a scheming way, and in the beginning its the family that is under her scheme. Then it's a scheme to help Ted's tax evasion and to punish Walt. Then it's a scheme to launder Walt's money. Then finally a scheme to extricate herself from the crimes. Always the schemer, much like Walt in some ways. The difference is that Walt's schemes were initially for altruistic reasons, whereas Skyler seemed more driven by fear. It makes you wonder that if Skyler had been more attentive and supportive to Walt, it wouldn't have unleashed Heisenberg. When you consider the brutal humiliation and emasculation of Walt, from his toxic home environment to Grey Matter shoving their wealth and success in his face with lavish garden parties and pity offerings, whilst battling terminal illness, is it any wonder he went off the deep end? Maybe that's the meaning of the show's title, the world broke Walt and turned him bad. As the Joker said, it only takes one bad day to reduce a sane man to lunacy. Maybe I resent Skyler more not because of the weight of the crimes, but because she never had any moral justifications beyond herself, whereas Walt had plenty even if they may have been delusional by the end.
@@IronThreads8-h9p we’ll learn to disagree but i still stand by my beliefs as will you. And i don’t think their was nothing Skyler could have done to prevent Heisenberg. Yes, she punished Walt with Ted, but if you were in a relationship with someone and they screwed u over by selling meth and putting ur family in danger, i doubt many would do differently. Skyler and Jesse are arguably the characters who suffered the most at Walt's hands. Every lie, every manipulation, everything. Walt is a master manipulator and I think the scene where this is the most apparent is when Skyler threatens him saying that she might pretend that Walt beat her and he said "Do you want our kid to think his father is capable of beating a woman?". Man, I feel sorry for them
@jonathanbirch2022nah it was definitely Jesse and skyler. Brock got a little sick, and jane’s death is sad but she chose to do heroin and died as a result. Jesse and especially skyler had their lives ruined and are Now broken shelves of their former selves. In jesse’s case he’s also now the most wanted man in America, and probably one of the most wanted in American history.
@jonathanbirch2022 again, the child was a bit sick for a day and Jane was still a person who chose to do heroin. Plus she died in her sleep. How is that worse than being the most wanted man on earth while also being kept as a SLAVE or having your family and world torn down by your husband becoming the biggest Meth manufacturer in history and being responsible for the deaths of your brother in law as well as countless others.
@jonathanbirch2022 It's questionable that Walt killed Jane. She was a crazy addict who brought heroin into Jesse's life and would probably have got herself killed anyway. She overdosed and Walt didn't see any particular need to save her.
@jonathanbirch2022 Well I think the knock was accidental, but arguably she would have got Jesse killed with heroin. Jane did 90% of the work to herself, and Walt's negligence was the coup de grace.
I just realized now, after watching this show several times already, that Walt's reaction at 0:58 is more of a feeling of insult and disgust that he is being accused of a "drug dealer". He wanted credit all the time for being the greatest me+h cook, and he coudn't take it that he was refered to as a "dealer".
Season 1 Jesse: Why’d you tell your wife I was selling you pot? Walt: Because somehow it seemed preferable to admitting I cook crystal meth and killed a man Season 3 Skyler: Marijuana. That Pinkman kid Walt: Of course not. I cook meth
Well, the big difference is not just about the substance in question (although it also makes an, erm, substantial difference), but between buying drugs for your own private use as opposed to producing them for the mass market.
One of the great things about Walt's character is how he held onto his newfound ego. He was holding out fine with the lie until Skyler undersold his achievements....then he just had to blab!
Skyler: You’re a… distiller. How else could you make that kind of money? Whiskey. Walter:…… Skyler: oh my god Walt… Tequila?? Walter: Mezcal. Skyler: Let me the hell out of here before I throw up.

Walt should have taken that deal and divorced Skylar. Then he could make all the money he wanted and build up his drug empire. But he didn’t because he was in denial about why he was doing all of it. Walt instead kept telling the lie that he was making money from cooking meth for his family when he really just liked doing something he was good at.
That's too simplified a view of his character. He was absolutely doing it both for his family and because he enjoyed it. Without either of those reasons, he would have stopped or might never have started his business in the first place. Even until the end of the show, he's still doing everything he can to secure that money for his family.

Which he was. Watch the show again. Skyler was a bad wife who just couldn’t learn her place. Always annoying with the questions and never being complacent. Her role is a that of a Fleshlight, dishwasher, and caretaker. Trying to be anything else, just makes her an ungrateful rebel.
He should have said he makes high quality chemicals consumers decide to use as drugs. He himself never sold to any users. He would have no idea on drug dealing.
"he makes high quality chemicals consumers decide to use as drugs" yeah, that's technically true it reminds me of how Minassian (incel killer in a van) phrased it when interrogated by the police (it can be found on YT): "i used a van to convert the life status of certain individuals to death status" not sure if it helped in the long run, but there's certain elegance to it (not)
First time I watched I rooted for Walt. Second time I hated him every time he talked. The only things he does well is cook meth and manipulate the people around him. To be fair he redeemed himself a tiny bit in the last couple episodes, but 99% of the problems came from his pride.
Anyone else notice how, for a split second, Walt seemed a bit insulted that Skylar would think he would just be selling weed like some common pusher? Like “do you know who you’re talking to??” but at the same time not being able to say “IM MOTHAF$@king HEISENBERG”!
This final reveal was so satisfying because of all the build up in S1 and S2. I just started watching this show and the drama of Walt constantly lying and Skyler just dying every time he does is compelling.

@@nicolasleroux5302 Lmao
I'll never understand the hate that Skyler gets for simply being a wife trapped in an unbearable situation.
the show is largely shown from walt's point of view. which is why even though people see him as a villain, they still have that kind of 'underdog rooting for for walt' vibe. the audience sees skyler as a reason for walts eventual downfall and failure. if we look at it from skyler's perspective, we have a lying husband who'd rather risk endangering himself and his family than accept money from others which would bruise his ego. an example of this is when walt finally confesses he did the whole thing for himself, we as an audience almost feel glad for walt, even though hes just admitted how selfish and cruel he actually has been the last 2 years. the show will or always portray walt in a better light as its based around him supposedly 'leaving money for his family'.
@@ndt7379 Yea that Ted thing is why i hated Skylar also
She could have shut her mouth, been his wife, and we’d all be fine now.
But No! She just had to blow it up. Her and her pride and her ego. She just had to be the man!
You forget the talking pillow scene?
If you wanna argue that Skyler wasn’t loyal, Walter betrayed first, with his lies and deceitfulness.

Jesse and especially skyler had their lives ruined and are
Now broken shelves of their former selves.
Being sick for a little isn’t as bad as bein Skyler or Jesse

Season 1
Jesse: Why’d you tell your wife I was selling you pot?
Walt: Because somehow it seemed preferable to admitting I cook crystal meth and killed a man
Season 3

Well, the big difference is not just about the substance in question (although it also makes an, erm, substantial difference), but between buying drugs for your own private use as opposed to producing them for the mass market.

One of the great things about Walt's character is how he held onto his newfound ego. He was holding out fine with the lie until Skyler undersold his achievements....then he just had to blab!

I really loved how shocked Walt was when she said "You're a drug dealer" because he knows he's actually the danger. Great symbolism.
