As for the combat, there actually is a pretty robust combo system in the game, but it isn't explained at all, and it isn't necessary to learn unless you decide to play with the modifiers that bump the combat difficulty up to 100/10. In a regular Nightmare playthrough, it's definitely possible to just brute force the combat so that all you need to do is spam abilities.
But once you start playing with the modifiers, like Grizzly End or Rub Some Dirt On It, you'll quickly be forced to learn the combo system. The combo system is actually pretty cool in this game, and it'll allow you to straight up ignore the level recommendations most of the time, too. Using it allows you to punch way above your level, sometimes 10-15 levels higher depending on the enemies.
Inquisition is definitely one of those games you have to play a couple of times until you learn where everything is, and then you can have fun doing challenge runs and stuff, using the Golden Nug for schematics.
It's definitely not a game for everyone.

It won GOTY becouse of two thing: EA agressive marketing campaing at the Game Awards and The Witcher 3 delaying it release 6 months. Once that game come out nobody was talking about Inquisition anymore.

The combat can feel repetitive at times. This can change once you've unlocked class specializing. The mount is pointless as it's only slightly faster than running with your party.
While the game is huge and can take almost 100 hours to finish (if exploring a lot and not using guides), it's honestly better when you take your time playing it. You don't need to feel like rushing games all at once. I personally like to switch between playing it and other games that I'm trying so that I don't feel burnt out.
As for why the game feels so different from the other titles, it is because they wanted to streamline the story and gameplay to grab a more casual audience. A big complaint from the first 2 games was how hard the combat was on normal difficulty, and some people had a hard time following the story at times. However, inquisition still shows love for its world and your choices, and it feels damn rewarding to see that in the world at times.
This was a great video, and I'm glad you enjoyed this series. While I am a mage player at heart, I respect sticking to rouge for your games. Out of curiosity, what has been your favorite companion in each game?

I 100% agree with you when you say that for big games like that, it's fine to take pauses, play other games, and comeback later. With the way I approach making my review videos though, it usually feels better for me to play games all at once and have everything fresh in my memory for the review. With that being said, it might still be the right approach for this one, especially with how long it seems to be!
It's very possible that when I'll have spent more time with the game, I'll find myself enjoying their new approach more and more. I think the clash was pretty big at first, but I'm eager to revisit the game and see how things evolve over time, especially the combat!
Thank you! I wasn't really going to stick to the Rogue, in fact I played Warrior in DA2. But I do have a tendency to pick melee classes. I remember mostly controlling the mages in DA:O though haha, they felt so impactful and important.
My favorite companions in the series... Oh well.
-DA:O is SOO hard to pick... Probably Alistair... But Morrigan is very close to taking his spot.
-DA:2... Varic 100% BUT, Merril deserves a mention. She's the first character, pretty much in gaming as a whole, where I went out of my way to try to romance her. I ususally don't care about that aspect of video games, figured I might as well try it in DA2. Following Merril on her crazy journey to fixing the mirror was rather... Interesting :')
-in DA:I so far, Dorian, Varic, Cassandra and Solas have been interesting. It's a bit early to tell!

I barely used the mount in Inquisition as it's only marginally faster than walking on foot and as one of the devs revealed in an interview a year or two ago, horse "sprinting" is an outright lie. The engine apparently couldn't stream data fast enough so they just added some optical effects to horse "sprinting" to create the illusion of fast movement but in reality there is no speed difference between walking and sprinting while on horseback.
As for why Inquisition is not like an updated DAO, I believe this has less to do with aspects of Origin being bad and more with the concept of Dragon Age as a series, at least as it was envisioned by Bioware back then. I vaguely remember reading ahead of the launch of DA2 that Dragon Age as a series was meant to be quite different from its contemporary Mass Effect in that they wanted to make this anthology wherein the world is the "protagonist" and not a specific character and so they wanted each game to feel distinct. That's why each game has such vastly different art styles, for example, and I suspect that many of the gameplay changes are not just about improving upon the previous games but also about trying something new (for the series).
Add to that the huge success of Skyrim a few years prior, making it so that in the eyes of EA RPGs now had to have an open world, and the switch to the Frostbyte engine in Inquisition, which wasn't really designed with RPGs or open worlds in mind, and that's how you get this weird hybrid of a game.

They could of just done without the shards or Austeriums.
That being said... Finding out the truth about the skulls is both a little bit shocking and eerily right up DAs grim dark lite setting.

Inquisition really felt like a quintessential "well polished turd" to me. It is competently made and it does have it's moments but they are more of a loose island chain in the sea of mediocrity.
I am sure I quit once in the Hinterlands and had to start again and then again because I was so bored of this place's MMORPG-lite design I fucked off into Orlais and soft locked myself in the bossfight there. So despite being massive Drago Age fan, I've only finished the game years after release because of this. And while The starting location was probably the worse and it did pick up, it still was alright but largely unsatisfying.
Story was ultimately the worst part as it managed to procedurally strip away everything that made Dragon Age a Dragon Age. It was almost shocking how clean everything was compared to DAO in terms of feel and grit to a point if felt almost sterile and main narrative devolving into incredibly banal generic fantacy. But probably the worst par is that it destroyed all mythos and ambiguity there. There is no room for interpretation or ancients myths and history. If you ever had any questions about anything, from veil to old gods, answer is "elves did it". Add to it any real depth to companions and you end with this school canteen food of a game.
It's not badly made but it lacks the flair and nourishment of a food that is actually made with love and care.

I recommend playing Inquisition to the end before writing it off. The first few locations are not a good representation of the game as a whole. Its story really takes off after you reach Skyhold. The characters really shine during the little moments when you explore the fortress and talk with them.

I played DA:I till Orlais and has to drop because It make me sleepy with the combat and meaningless quest/storyline. Honestly ppl complain alot of aspect abt DA:Veilguar but some of that aspect can be found in DA:I as well especially the illusion of choice.

I felt the same way after playing DA:I and seeing what way DA:V headed I've written off the series completely.
For me Baldurs Gate 3 is the true successor to DA:O. Pretty fitting since DA:O was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate 2. 😅

Many old origin fans really thought da2 was an accident and inquisition the furthest they will go away from DAO but still being a DA game. how wrong we were now looking at veilguard… which basically has nothing to do with its game identity anymore and only partly with its lore identity… sad cause it would be so „easy“ just improve on origins like bg3 did. Which btw now feels more like a faithful successor to DAO than all the other ones. Weird.

As a fan of the first two games, I feel pretty much the same about DAI. It's different. I don't think it's as good as the previous games, but it's very much worth playing for the lore, and many of the characters are well-written. Unlike DAV, it's at least created by the same team who made the previous games.

I get that a bunch of people didnt like the open world style, and why. I liked it, quite a lot. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the different biomes figuring out how to get places at my own pace. I have always enjoyed crafting so even the grind for everyone to have the best gear and cosmetically changing it to look awesome
Combat is definitely more snappy and has a free feeling to it than DA:2 im not sure what made you say that haha. Lots of good combos with detonations, you might need to look them up though. And once you set companion AI properly youll all be doing your jobs seamlessly, you can just let them go the companions are beasts. Not just cosmetic like Veilblah
It could be due to you not having enough levels or something you said 11 hours or something right, depending on the player that can still be tutorial area

Mods mods mods. Can help allot.
Like 25% increase to movement speed now i never use my mount so i can hear all the banter and not feel like I'm crawling across the map.
99 potion health mod so you don't have to keep going back to camp to refill health potions. You only are allowed like 8 normally.
Increased inventory to 400 mod so you don't have to break up exploration to unload inventory or worry about inventory management.
I got like 40ish mods installed.

I never liked Inquisition mainly because the game just tries too hard to be super long without giving you any drive to explore
Like there is snowy mountains location and how many times do you look there in story? Zero times
