The lead in to Manners by MISA and Akane is something the band has been doing in live concerts. The do a lead in which sounds nothing like the song and the fans are desperately trying to guess which song is coming next and then… BOOM! they start playing the song. Being Band Maid of course it’s a different lead in for a different song every concert. It’s one of the things to love about them, they are endlessly inventive and hate playing the same thing, they change how they play their songs every time they play.
Blues rock and speed metal from one group! Band-Maid is just so versatile! Black Hole is the 22 of 23 songs from this performance! Confidence and vitality is a Band-Maid trademark!
It wasn't the Monster, Unless the Monster in question is Band-Maid. "Lured into a false sense, to be pushed down the stairs": I love that analogy! Do didn't imagine the synth horns added for the live version. They definitely add to that false send if safe, pop/rock vibe just before pulling the sledgehammer that is Black Hole from out of nowhere to slam us between the eyes. This proggy, thrash metal masterpiece that I can easily envision coming straight off of Anthrax's "Among the Living" gives me visions of circle pits erupting at proper live performances, once they can resume.
This video was put out this way to get in a Japanese government program to help artists during the Covid crisis. They cannot play live to generate funds so the government had a program where if they release a music video they would get funds to cover half of the production costs. The catch was it had to be at least five minutes in length. Band Maid does not have any songs that long so they put two together. They are quite a stunning pair to put together. Thank you for the reaction. You are falling down the same rabbit (pigeon?) hole that I did about eight months ago. Keep up the good work! Cheers from the US.
Nice to see you back at Band-Maid. Hope you had a great time and also an nice weekend. Yes, Band-Maid is AWESOME and they are already my favorite band for round about 2+ years! Greetings from Germany :)
You'll sink into the Black Hole, it doesn't matter It will take your soul, have you good or bad Manners Thanks for coming back to the maids, be sure to not miss 'Kate' on Netflix. B-M will make a cameo and two songs on that movie, coming on Sep. 10th 🤘🕊️
For 'Black Hole' you definitely need several listens to begin to recognize everything that is in there. A slap in the face is a pretty good description. :) As for 'Manners', I'll let my signature do the talking. ;) ... Have a nice weekend! 🙋🏻♂️ 【 'Our rock never dies ever. Forever!' - from BAND-MAID 'Manners' 】🕊️
Ha ha--I seriously doubt that she did anything unplanned...it seems that they let MISA MISA have another romp on that tune like "about us". Loved how she drove that song with her GODDESS bass tone, the bass lines she comes up with are astounding!
and yes, there is a synth or horn in some parts. My understanding is that Akane is doing the sampling and controls the playing. I would suspect that if it is a synth then it was played by either Misa, Akane, or Kanami (all of whom play piano) and if it was a horn then it was played by either Misa, or Akane (who both play various brass instruments). And that's my pure speculation for the day.
At 220 bpm Black Hole is their fastest song to date, however, during Kanami and Miku's meeting with Herman Li from Dragonforce Kanami asked Herman what their fastest song was to which he replied he thought it was 235 bpm. The thoughtful look on Kanami's face must have sent shivers down Akane's spine lol ! If you are doing Play next why not bring things down and do 'Wonderland' or 'Endless Story' Thanks Chief !
When Kanami was writing the music for Black Hole, she apparently asked Akane how fast she could play and was told it was around 200 BPM. So she wrote the song at 220 BPM as a challenge. Laughter at this aside, it's really impressive that they keep pushing each other and growing in both their skills and range. Band Maid makes me happy every time I listen to them. OK, "About Us" makes me cry, but I'm still enjoying it. :)
Band Maid as usual pulling their "Let's just play the bass solo and guitar solo at the same time" craziness in Manners. They don't care man. Everyone play a solo the whole time, rules don't apply. I really appreciate their live shows because they do let you hear the vocals way better. For some reason the albums always have Miku turned down alot so you have to strain to hear what she's doing. But the live performances lately seem to have better vocal quality. Too bad the guitar's usually quieter. :D Either Giovanni or Black Hole are my favorite track off 'Unseen World'. Black Hole does a good job of giving you a feeling like you're falling into a black hole. It sounds so chaotic and still so well structured when you really pay attention. They said before this concert that they were most apprehensive about playing Black Hole live because it's at such a fast rate and gets so crazy that if one of them trips and loses their spot they wouldn't be able to get back to the right spot. Poor Akane especially is going crazy through most of the song. But if you look at her she's enjoying the hell out of it. Basically Black Hole is Band-Maid making a prog metal song but rather than make us wait 12 minutes to hear all the cool things they're going to do, they instead just do it in 3.
You just made my day too with this! And probably a few other peoples' too. The musicianship from them all in these two performances is exceptional. The MV of 'Manners' is really nice too. I must have the notifications turned off in the Discord as I've missed all your stuff on there (very sad face)...have to go and fix that now. Hey, 3.33K subscribers! Congratulations, man, you deserve them all and all the others to come. 🤘🤘🦊👌
It's great to see bands like Lovebites, Baby Metal, and Band Maid getting recognition for quality variation and diversifying progressive styles into modern metal and replacing the redundant Cookie Monster vocals this music suffered from. Lovebites does a good version of Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free" ua-cam.com/video/To21HILZvYE/v-deo.html
Another awesome reaction! After Manners when you were talking about liking simple drum beats to God tier drums I thought, "Well you are about to hear the God tier level". Akane is a human/gorilla drum machine. I hope Kanami doesn't break her. As for the creepy guitar melody, when I first listened to the Unseen World album my first though... after I put my brain back together and picked my face up off of the floor was that that someone needed to check in on Kanami. A lot of her riffs and leads sounded like she was dragging us down into her pit of madness. Some are just downright sinister. Haha.
Spot on review. Akane is my favorite and along with Misa anchor Band Maid’s sound. This live performance, as usual, is better than the studio original. In “Manners” Kanami’s solo was very cool and Misa simultaneously soloing on the bass was a first for me. Some of Miku’s vocals and the synth horn part is better heard on this live version. Akane’s drumming on “Black Hole” is amazing, yet is almost eclipsed by the rest of the girl’s playing & singing. “Flying High” is a song you should review, probably my favorite from the Conqueror album.

@@GaryHolloway-810congratulations! I've been awake for 35 minutes and thanks to you, I've already had a great laugh, remembered some old friends, and my sinuses have had their hot coffee flush for the weekend. I need to elaborate a bit, I suppose. About ten years ago, a friend of mine built himself a boat. It's really more of an oversized canoe. Built of plywood, encased in fiberglass, he did a beautiful job. I believe it's 21' long, and it bows upward slightly at each end. During construction, his girlfriend (now wife) commented that it's shape was like a giant banana. Six or eight weeks later, when it was time to be painted, fate stepped in. He wanted some high quality paint, so he went down to the paint store and told them what he was doing and that he wanted paint that would have a pretty tough finish. It turned out that the previous week the paint store had done a large commercial order and had mixed one too many cans, so they had a gallon of this high dollar commercial paint that they would let him have at a huge discount. He's never been one to turn down a good deal, so he bought this $180 gallon of paint for $50. The catch? It was already colored. Bright canary yellow. While he was painting it, his girl (she's an artist) took a small bit of the paint and mixed in some of her art paint and added a few random little brown spots here and there, just to complete the look. The boat has been christened, and wears it's name proudly on each side of it's stern. "The Dirty Banana". (I believe they still have it.) Your talk of a banana skin boat brought that memory rushing back into my head, and a smile to my face. A smile with dripping with coffee mind you, but a smile all the same. Thanks for the grin. 😁
