Hi biblescraps. Just bought my smooth-on kit for this exact purpose. I'm a beginner and there isn't alot of this video's. I love your video. Your video is so helpful. You just gave me the "guts" to actually open it and start using it 😊. Your video is definitely helpful for beginner like me. I love your honest way of presenting it too. FYI: I watched your cupcake mold tutorial ( super duper cute!!!) and this one, and just wanted you to know you don’t need to buy these kits! You can buy 100 % silicone window caulking and Naptha ( both items in the paint department) that you can get at any hardware store. If you a quick setting mold for smaller objects that’s ready in 10 minutes or less; it’s just silicone caulking with cornstarch mixed well in a ziplock bag. Another tip is castor oil (not to be confused with the motor oil...the one that can be used on your skin and you can get at Walgreens or Walmart or grocery store in skin care section) mixed with a little rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle for a quick release. Geo Substainable has some good YT videos on how to make them and quantities. Looking forward to checking out some of your other videos and thank you for the inspirations!

Not to be a critical of your process but more for helping you and your viewers in the future get better results with these pieces. That is to use modeling clay pressed down into your containers. So that when you put the pieces in you slightly press them into the clay this will keep the liquid rubber from weeping under the pieces and eliminating an extra process of cutting out the pieces. This will also keep the risk of ruining the mold too.
But great video just the same keep up the good work.

If you glue down your buttons with a little tacky glue first they wont move around. Grind down the back so they are smooth. when you remove the silicone they will stay on the plastic and you can just pop them off. I have been using this silicone for a couple of years now.

The directions and measurements are accurate, it only meant that you used too small pieces for the amount of molds you first used. Also the container in which you used were too big as well. I'm glad that you were persistence, Trial and error indeed. Glad you're happy with the results. Also for the future save the pieces of molds, they can be used for earrings stoppers as well as keeping anything from sliding from smooth surfaces. With all that being said I will be giving you a thumb up. Looks like it will be the first one. God bless.

Glue the back down in your silicone mold with Elmer’s or a touch of hot glue so they don’t lift and that should help your molds turn out better since they are closer to the bottom and won’t leak into mold.

On the basket it was most likely the first mold there were little pieces left. Maybe you could mold with calking or something the first time molding. The basket has little groves in it. I'm curious if it did better on a second molding. The cookies that didn't have enough resin well, they just look like they have bites out of them...lol But they look good.

The texture stamps and molds are so expensive. For the price and what it would cost to purchase 2-3 quality molds /stamps, I can buy the product and make my own. The problems with the back are because of your mold and the "flaps" as you put it. The best way to do small pieces with flat backs is to stick them down to your container that you are going to put the mold maker into so that the oomoo won't seep underneath. I have watched tons of videos on this lately because I am getting some oomoo in the mail. I am hoping it is really good. It will be my 2nd try with liquid molding medium. I have also used several of the mold putties but I wasn't happy with them really.

biblescraps well my first Oomoo mold came out okay. I made some mistakes though but I should get enough uses out of it to make my money back for the molding material.
Not sure what was more fun - building the container box from Lego pieces or pouring in the Oomoo :D

I am excited to try this for resin casting. I like the Amazing mold putty but even with a coupon it's still pretty expensive. I want to mold larger items. No luck with the diy silicone cornstarch recipes here lol.

No idea if this is something you already got a chance to figure out. But if you use clay on the bottom of your mold and THEN add your items to that, it will not go under them and you will have something better :)

Hello Maggie. It sounds like you want to make a 3d mold of which I have yet to do. I do know this company has videos making such molds. You might want to search OOMOO youtube page and browse through their videos. I'm sorry I'm not of much help but 3d molds are on my to craft list so perhaps in the future Blessings...

If you would stick the buttons into clay when you do it face up then the silicone wouldn't run underneath the buttons as not all of them perfectly smooth and flat on the back and also they can move on the plastic bowl so it is not safe to pour the silicone on them. With the clay base they would have an even and smooth back. You can find videos if you look for methods how to make 3D molds. But i love your method i will try it for that there is no need for the clay anymore :)

Greetings, I purchased these from Joann's.com. I also purchased locally from a store called Tuesday Morning. Here is the link to Joann's.

I watched a few folks and they swear by the mold star 15 stuff, it is a bit slower of a cure but it is durable and doesn't rip and inwas told the Oomoo 20 an up come out a bit tacky and it rips very easily

You need to sick the items to your dish prior to filling will rubber compound....that will prevent the items from lifting from the flow during the pour!

Maybe the blanks floated to the top? I'm wanting to use this product. I have seen others where they put tape or glue to keep the base flat so the putty doesn't float around or under. Great video thank you!

Hi, was just watching, it appears there are bubbles on the faces of the buttons. How do you deal with those. Or have you found a way to rid of them. All the best.

    • @biblescraps
      @biblescraps  5 років тому

I have found if I use a stick to pop the bubbles or let the mixture settle several minutes before I add the buttons this seems to work. Blessings...
