1957 Tonka Rescue Squad Metro Van Ambulance Fire Department Truck Restoration

- Опубліковано 11 гру 2021
- I purchased this Tonka Rescue Squad metro van Ambulance Fire Department Truck on eBay October of 2021. It appears that this toy had a million miles put onto it and made some children extremely happy! It's entire body was covered in rust, was missing a headlight and the other one was missing a tab, both front and rear bumpers were dented in, the roof top siren was missing and it had numerous dents throughout the body. After sandblasting the body only showed minor pitting and was pretty easily filled with high build powder primer and wet sanding. Overall this was a very enjoyable restoration for me. I ran into a couple issues with the decals which I'm sure you will see. I had a couple that didn't stick down real nicely and one that ripped while I was removing it from the backing. Unfortunately I didn't have time to get another one before the video needed to be posted so I had to post with the defective decal. This will be replaced in the coming weeks. My little Niece made a "Monster Claus" for the video and I was super excited to include it in the ending scene, My sister made the big sheep for the video as well which I got a good kick out of. Thank you for watching!

This was so relaxing for me. I lost my dad to cancer a couple weeks ago and he loved to do stuff like this. Gave me a bit of peace watching this
& I also now know that, this was an old iron toy ambulance. 🚑 😳
) ppp
Prayers for you and the family.
RIP
So sorry for your loss.
That powder chrome looks great.
Beautiful job!
BAAAA. THAT IS A BIG SHEEP. YOU MIGHT CALL HIM SQUARE. what a beautiful transformation
Anyone else find these videos to be therapeutic? Excellent video quality.
All better ready to go to work! Always a amazing restore👍👍
Watching the body parts get media blasted was super satisfying!

Nice restoration of one of my toy when I was young.
It always amazes me how good the quality of the metal is when the trucks are beadblasted. It looks in almost perfect condition.
Yep. For some reason the surface rust bleeds out through the paint bad enough to make it look like solid rust but you can see the paint is still there when blasting.
Yes, no rust…. just dirt, that looks like it has been painted on
I agree it seems like it wasn't really rusted, it was just painted like that and a little dinged up to make it look like it was old.
I've seen a lot of rust and corroding. It's as real as the rusted shit i find in my yard and in the ground. If the truck was painted, the stickers would be rusty and underneath the stickers wouldn't be rusted.
The sandblasting process fills any rust or corrosion pits if they aren't completely rusted though, (both sides have rust and complete holes, metal is brittle there.)
I love watching you media blast the surface rust off. I find it oddly soothing.
Very well done, looks new.
I am constantly amazed how you revive these old, beat-up toys!!
Fantastic work as usual. I just love to watch you restore these classic Tonka toys. Thank you 🥰
That is some nice paintwork!
Congratulation chip Channel the Fábio and Rafael from Brazil. The best restauration. Long life the Channel.
That’s it. I’m officially obsessed with this channel. What a great hobby!!
I dont know why I find these videos so fascinating. i just sit and stare.
Oh, the sheep show and the cat were the best. ❤️
The patient sheep must of eating to much at Thanksgiving. Great job.
One word...MAGNIFICENT.
Wow, what a collection!
Thanks for not making a music video. I just saw another YT restoration channel but it was full of loud music. I love being able to hear the raw sound just as if I were standing beside you as you work.
Good that you show your collection every video.
I appreciate how he always rolls away the tires he removes instead of just picking them up.
Thank goodness Chip was able the rescue "The Rescue Squad". Love Monster Claus...🎅👍
Why is it so satisfying watching the sand blasting?
The most satisfying sand blasting I've ever seen.
Impressive sandblasting, in fact, impressive overall.
Boy did kitty cat get big! The chubby lamb was so funny. Beautiful wrk and I love to hear the click of everything coming together ❤️
Another great renovation project 👍
This time I missed your pet 😼
Wonderful restoration and a lovely kitty.
Hey kitty, no! Don't chew the lamp!
Thank you for your effort.
An amazing restoration, wouldn't think the before & after were the same vehicle.
I love the cat's finishing touches.
Hooray for Monster Claus! Oh, and the truck looked good, too.
Thank you for breathing life into these wonderful old toys, you know you made an impact when every rusted metal toy at the flea market went from $10 to $50
As always... just beautiful!!!
I truly feel sorry for those children that never woke up to a Christmas morning with a Tonka toy...imagination and fun. What you do is not only restoration, but art. Thank You for bringing back wonderful memories Sir!
Thank you for your kind thoughts about my deprived childhood. Luckily, I lived near to a rubbish dump, a mere half-hour walk away. There we found old wind-up
Gramophone players, radios, scientific equipment, telephone generators and suchlike, which we pulled to bits and renovated to make whatever we could imagine.
We also found smouldering fires lit by the Council, and had marvellous fun throwing broken sheets of asbestos building materials on the fires to make them explode. The resulting clouds of particles were the shrapnel pieces of our imaginary hand grenades.
Now 78 years later I still don't have _asbestosis_ but I can't vouch for my fellow companions.
It was a marvellous childhood. But being deprived of *Tonka Toys* did take its toll, but luckily we were able to compensate somewhat by buying *Matchbox Toys* instead.
It's a pleasure to watch you bring back these antique toys. Takes me back to my childhood 😃👏👏👍👍.
I luv the amazing work you do on these toys thanks for sharing my friend 👌 ❤
Your niece is a future crafter-machinist! And your kitty is a very good helper. The ambulance looks fantastic. I can't express how satisfying it is to see someone's formerly beloved toy receive such care and attention.

Watching you sand blast is my favorite!
The before / after is really impressive 👍
That opening backdrop was EPIC. 💕♥️💕
I want to thank you for saving these toys from the past. Your attention to detail on each one you have brought back to life amazes me. Restoring these toys is an art form and I enjoy watching how it is done by an expert. As a child I remember having and seeing some that you have restored in toy stores in the 40s and 50s. Again, thank you so much for sharing your videos with us. Each toy you restore I hope would be put into a museum so that future generations of children could see the toys their great granddads played with as a child.
P
It is so satisfying to see how quickly the sandblasting removes decades of rust, dirt, grime, paint and neglect. The restoration processes you go through are always fascinating.
😊
The sand blasting is the best part😌
I love how you include a playful element to all your videos! It's as if you never grew up... A collection to be envied man, well done!
These men, actually need to teach boys & girls, how to play again
They're on too much screentime😞
WOW that powder chrome is Bloody Brilliant
Love the hubcaps... nice touch Great job!
nice efforts friend
Love watching your repairs you are an absolute master restorer Thank You so much...
normally I don't agree with restoring antique toys but as bad as this one was it needed restored to save it. A top notch job to boot.
Very nice restoration, and a beautiful fine result.
Another awesome restoration! I really appreciated the extra sandblasting clips, I find it just mesmerizing watching all that corrosion just being wiped away. Keep up the good work!
Isn’t it amazing how a little sandblasting can improve the appearance of rusted items multifold… 😉
Sending support, love, and kindness from Lexington MI USA.
Thank you for posting with original sound. I love to hear the tools and work!
amazing all the parts that went into these toys.
Great job!!! 👍👍👍
Spectacular restoration. Two thumbs way Up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great job. Beautiful results.
Astounding skill level!
We loved monster claws. My kids are building their own for on our tree. Thanks for the idea. 🎄☃️😉 Have a very Merry Christmas ⛄🎄
Beautiful restoration. I am the original owner of the Tonka set. Fire Engine, Aerial Truck, Rescue Squad 1954-55. The vehicles are in better shape (stored inside) not as much rust. I want to restore them, but not sure if I want to paint with powder coat or oil based paint. Thanks for a video. Nice way to start the day 🌞☕
Great job. It would have also looked ace as a UPS van.
I want this toy!!! And just a few other ones, if you wouldn't mind! LOL Honestly, if you were close, I'd love to be your "helper"! What a Fantastic Talent! Thank you for all the Toys you've "saved"!
It is satisfying to look at old toys being restored to what it used look like
NGL, the hardest part for me would be getting those decals on straight! 😊 Great job!
That’s why I would use soapy water.
I can never watch these videos all the way through. I always manage to fall asleep when it gets to the sandblasting part. Even when I'm not tired I still fall asleep watching these.
Fabulous restoration! Love watching your video while you work on old truck 🚚 and paint bright color that looks great! Less talking is much better 👌 you re doing very well and very talented too!
I love ❤️ your work congratulations
Sand blasting is my favorite part!!!
It looks great Chip and I really like this one!!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
It's sort of interesting that just after you restored this vehicle - all the cat wanted to do was chew the top light off. I enjoyed watching this. Thank you.
Please let your niece know how much we all appreciate MonsterClaus.
Whoever is restoring this did a great job
Thank you!

This vehicle is somewhat a combination of a Volkswagen Bus and a Ford pickup truck with a cab.
@@ChipChannelRestorations I know that this a small ambulance. But the ambulances that we see today, had bigger cabs, so they can carry medical gear, devices, items like blood packs, syringes, sleeping gas, and shock pads. And speaking of blood packs, there's another variation of the ambulance called a Bloodmobile, they're meant to deliver packs of human blood to hospital to hospital. And another version of a Bloodmobile is a bus type. A bus type Bloodmobile can carry more packs of human blood than the ambulance.
Another faultless restoration. I loved the catscan!

I busted out laughing!
It was just gone!
Great video❤️
Enjoyed it!
Another beautiful job!
Vintage toy restoration is a hobby I would like to take up as it looks quite satisfying.
My 4 year old son and I were watching this together and he was absolutely rolling on the floor when the chubby sheep was trying to get in the back of the truck 😂
Wow another great one Chip. Been looking forward to a new one and this am there it was! Thought the body was going to be more pitted but it cleaned up really well with your sandblasting. Great finished product and great video work like usual. Junk yard still looks more full than the last video you did! Thx for sharing!
Beautiful work !!
Holy crap what a sandblaster. I absolutely loved how you recorded it. That was so freakin satisfying watching it. Awesome restoration job.
Very satisfying sandblasting on this one
Rescucing the rescuers, once again saving the day for time-ravaged childhood artifacts!
