1961 Tonka Rescue Squad Ambulance Restoration

- Опубліковано 26 чер 2021
- Happy 4th of July! Stay safe out there! I purchased this 1961 Tonka Rescue Squad Ambulance Van Truck off HiBid in January of 2021. It was in dire need of a restoration and missing the boat, ladder, and boat retaining straps. Otherwise everything was complete and outside of being very rusty it was in really great shape. There was some minor pitting after sandblasting however the powder coat primer was able to fill those pits and smoothed out after wet sanding. The grill and bumper were too far gone to nickel plate so I powder coat chromed them instead. Overall I was extremely happy with how this one came out and have been wanting to add one of these to my collection for quite some time. Don't worry, no sheep were harmed in the making of this video! Plus they all have really good health insurance.

Thumbs up as always.
Greettings from Romania 👍👍👍👍
Marvelous work on this rusty public servant! Tales of a bygone era! Better PSA on the perils of firecrackers, the rescue put the sheep back into shape. It's a shame yo
It's a shame you have to bribe Beaker to be in the video!
this channel is going to super hit
Congratulattions. And if your cat is agree every thing it is all right. Never stops dreamer and playing.
Great job chip well done.
That was great video restoreing old Toyota tracks I enjoyed Toyota tracks ! 👍👍👏👏
Brilliant restoration there. A very handsome vehicle - I love all of Tonka's classic trucks - not easy to get in the UK - I never knew one other kid who had one in the mid 1960's. I had one of the basic pick up trucks, which was given to me by an uncle who was in the Merchant Navy, and that was played with to it's death (possibly by fireworks) many years later.
I do like the Civil Defence markings on this. The year after it's release, the cold war got considerably warmer.
Thank you for sharing. Nice one. 👍👍👍
Tetanus was rampant in that vehicle. Great job!
Poor little sheep!!! Great job.
Good my friend ❤❤🌹🌺🌺

Ты делаешь всё очень круто!!!
So relieved the sheep is ok. Pets to Beaker.
The magic of sandblasting gets me every time.
Try heating the tabs. Heat gun probably. Don't burn the paint. That goes without saying. Love your seed company screw driver
My Favorite Channel for car restoration on a scale great creativity and skill
Another spectacular save!!!👍
I am a retired EMT and I absolutely loved this restore. It took me a minute to figure out the CD on the doors. That is definitely something that you do not see anymore. In the basement of our ambulance barn we had 6 30 gallon drums of water that was made in the 1960s and would not expire until 2020. I tried to aquire one of them but I did not have the opportunity to remove one. Thank you for celebrating EMS with the 4th of July. EMTs are certainly forgotten at times - if you see one thank them. Just remember that the things they do come back in their dreams, and they see people on the worst day of their Ives.
I agree. Being a warning siren enthusiast it’s really crazy to see a CD logo on something else that’s not a siren.
@@Kasey1776 The logo was often put on vehicles that were to be used as part of Civil Defense efforts. Ambulances, mail vehicles, even utility trucks would get the marking. In some places you'd actually have rescue squads with an affiliation to the local Civil Defense organization and they'd be marked something like this truck.
I know, that’s why I said that.
Years ago, I was a security guard and in the basement of the mall I was a guard that they had a old civil defense shelter. And there they had the 50 barrel drums for the water that you mentioned plus they had pallets of the survival rations which were basically crackers you would find in an MRE
@@HomerInNC WOAH! That's awesome!
A good job done again and a happy 4'th to you too
Loved the ending!
The various ways you remove the sheep from the trucks always amuses me.
Sandblasting is so satisfying 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Well done on restoring the ambulance

Great stuff! Love it! 😎👍🏻🇨🇦
I missed the sheep glad they are baackk
Power coat the tabs bent than carefully straighten just enough to fit the slots, then rebend. Should held with the cranking. Keep up the good work 👏
0:41 I love the cotton ball sheep ::)
Awesome Job!! 👍😁

Great job as always, Chip! Say hi to Beaker & the sheep for me. Happy 4th!
Beaker says Hi!
Luv the restoration on them like to see the restoration on the construction set of the tonka vehicle...like the bull dozer
Well, that's a different way of removing a sheep! Poor 4th of July sheep had a firecrackin' good time!
Wow. You're slowly restoring the whole Tonka catalog!
You did very good on that 🚒
Awesome restoration! The rescue truck looks better than new... Don't harm the sheeps!
Awsome work Chip
Good thing rescue was nearby.
I love watching every one of these. Love your cat and sheep too.
Always love the intro👍 amazing job my friend🤗
I remember in the 70's, nurses rode on the ambulance. I decided then to become a nurse so I could ride in an ambulance.. By the time I was college age, nurses didn't ride in the ambulances anymore. Dang it! lol Great job!!
Wieder eine super Arbeit!👍🏻
Poor Jack!
Just minding his own business, chillin’ in the cab, and then ruthlessly poked in the eye and spun out!
You be nice to him! He’s ... special!
Excelente Restauración.. Bueeen Trabajo.. Yo también empecé a Restaurar autitos de mis hijos
‼️🙋♂️🇨🇱.. 😄😃😄
Good job well done
For your cracking paint issue, the paint is needing to be incredibly flexible, so I would look into two details: surface prep/paint adhesion and paint compound. For the first one, maybe an adhesion promoter or an etching primer would make the powder coat fuse with the metal better. And for the second, the powder coat in that area seems quite thick. I know nothing about powder coating, but maybe see if there are other kinds of powder that allow some flexibility. Hope this helps! Amazing restoration!
Beautiful! I gave mine, a condition 9, to my Grandson. They have nothing today that compares to our childhood. Cheers
🎖🏅🏆👍👍👍Saludos desde Viña del Mar Chile...
Please don’t deprive me of the sand blasting process!! My favorite part. I’d love you to consider doing a compilation video of all sandblasting! Please!
I like that too, and I'm always surprised how well these old metal parts clean up!

I love watching these restore transformations
I live these videos. It's cute the way the tow truck comes in to get them. Neat stuff and great results.
Ya startled me a bit, I didn't think that the firework next to the sheep was real until you lit it, good thing junkyard sheep are tough.
Have a Happy 4th of July everyone.
Great channel. Love your work.
Omg omg Hände 💪💪💪💪👏👏👏Super super brawo 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇵🇱 Polen 💓 Joanna
Me encanta ver como sale la pintura, es antiestres 😁! Felicitaciones es una maravillosa restauración !!
I own the same toy I got as a child. It's in very good condition, as I took care of my toys. Also, my ladder is painted white.
Good to see you back, mate. I've missed you. And your flock of sheep. Lol. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Very sweet 😊 always love your work Lee
Never worked with powder coat before so I don't know what the physical qualities are like with what you're using. Try a range of low heats progressively getting hotter to see if the paint can regain some flexibility when bent. Maybe also try pressing the tabs into place with smooth pressure after heating instead of tapping into place which gives fluctuations in downwards force and not consistent.
Love this channel, it's so very relaxing to watch the silence at work!
Fantastic job as always, but love the ending skit, LOL 😆. enjoy the 4th 🥳💥🍻🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Quedo lindicimo 👍
Magnificent work. Greetings from México 🇲🇽
It's good that you were more specific at that time; about what year this iron/tin toy ambulance, was first created. Not just the company that owned it. I'm so glad you brought it back to life.☺😊😌
Happy 4yh to you!!
Min 30:20. The metal breaks because it is "cooked" (too olded). It is sufficient to warm it up before open it during the dismantling. Job well done! 😉
Ninguna oveja fue lastimada en la realización de este video ok? Ja linda restauración amigo.
To prevent the powder coat from cracking, you could try heating it before bending the tabs with a heat gun or similar. might be enough to soften it first. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
