Super paper Mario is my favorite, Paper Jam doesn’t even seem like a paper Mario game at all seems like Mario and Luigi so didn’t expect it to make the list
Man Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door were releaased a few months apart. 2004 is truly the magical year for Mario RPGs. Thank goodness they remade this masterpiece. I really hope Nintendo would stop experimenting on gameplay with this franchise and stick to the RPG turn based battle mechanics. Would you change the gameplay of Final Fantasy.... oh wait they did.

Also I forgot Paper Jam existed
Let me guess; it was the first one you played😂 Literally anyone who played them without nostalgia-bias will tell you that TTYD and 64 are objectively the best BY FAR, with SPM being a distant third and OK being an *extremely* distant fourth The first two are objectively all-time elite RPGs in every single way. On the other hand, SPM has an elite-tier story, but is otherwise just a decent 2D platformer with a cringy and poorly-executed child-based 3D gimmick that nobody over the age of 11 would find to be creative or fun. That 3D gimmick is what kickstarted the trend of Paper Mario being based on cringy child-based gimmicks rather than objectively great gameplay combined with a great story like it was with the first two games
@@fakename5308 No. I played 64 first and attempted TTYD but didn't like it. SPM is awesome no matter what. I understand everything thrown at it and the sequels, but for me, it's a great blend of many factors that make a video game great, not just one of its series. TTYD is, for me, 64 but better, and that isn't of my liking. I needed a fresh bold direction which SPM delivered, gimmicks or not.
@@fakename5308 Sounds like you’re the one nostalgic for the first two Paper Mario games, or haven’t played any RPGs outside of Mario. Flipping is used to solve creative puzzles, explore the levels to find secrets, and make it easier to fight enemies. The game forces players to use it mainly in the first chapter to teach them all the uses. After that, the game expects players to use it in unconventional situations to find secrets. In other words, it’s a well designed mechanic that makes this game worth playing. All Thousand Year Door has is a pointless RNG stage gimmick. None of the other games have gameplay as unique or interesting as Super Paper Mario.
so many people have called super paper mario underrated that the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction. super paper mario is _overrated_ at this point
I didn’t realize there will be so many titles in the franchise. I played and didn’t care for the original and TTYD so I gave up on the franchise. I enjoyed my trip back through SMRPG so I might give TTYD remake another shot.
Sticker Star wasn’t my favorite. It’s hard and there are some places I’m stuck on. And I think Mario and Luigi Paper Jam was great! Amazing special paper moves and Mario and others meeting their paper doppelgängers!
I’m a little bummed that I missed out on the greats of the gamecube era, but I’m actually glad that my experience with the Paper Mario series started where it did. I first played Paper Mario Sticker Star when I was 11 and that was before I was skilled or mature enough to really appreciate challenging games or deep stories. To the young me, playing Sticker Star was exciting, imaginative, and a great little adventure that I replayed multiple times. I also completed Super Paper Mario when I was 11 but all the confusing labyrinths, cryptic puzzles, and in depth plot elements were a bit much for the young me to really enjoy. So I kind of just forgot about most of it for a few years and then gradually rediscovered how extraordinary it is as I got older and better at gaming. From there, I got full mileage out of Color Splash and Origami King and adored the charm, dialogue, and adventures of them both just like I did with Sticker Star and SPM. It wasn’t until I was 21 that gave the N64 Paper Mario a chance via NSO Online and now that I’ve experienced the OG PM first hand, I certainly understand what made Paper Mario so beloved. In conclusion, my experience with the Paper Mario series kept better as time went on. It’s like it’s all leading up to me finally getting to play Thousand Year Door which is something I wasn’t sure I’d ever get a chance to do before the switch remake was revealed. So, as someone who loved every Paper Mario game he played and still at least likes each of them today, how much do you think I’ll love Thousand Year Door? Only one way to find out I suppose! It’s almost here!
The primary problem with later Paper Mario games is they lean too heavily into the paper aspect. Everything became, "Hey, get it, we're paper, nudge, nudge, wink, wink". Older games only used the paper theme mostly for visuals, they didn't revolve around it.
I had trouble putting my finger on it but you're right. it's like Nintendo is trying too hard to sell the whole paper gimmick when they didn't need to in the first place with the first two entries and even Super Paper Mario. Origami King was a step but the combat system took away from the potential
- sticker star was one of 4 Mario games that I ever took back to the store to get my money back - I stopped playing Paper Jam about 30% through the game and never went back - Color Splash was just OK that I still played through up to the 5th boss if I remember but to this day I never finished the game -Had no desire to play Origami King - To me, Super was alright. Frustrating at times. Not as memorable to me as to others. Beat the game once, never desired to play again. - Enjoyed The original. The music, the characters. Would love to see a remake of this too. -LOVED TTYD! My top fav. I regret selling my copy. I was in financial trouble at the time. But getting the remake will make up for it
Super Paper Mario is hands down my favorite “Paper Mario” game of all time! All because I mostly grew up with it and it was the first Paper Mario game I ever played
My list: 1 - The Origami King 2 - Paper Mario 64 3 - The Thousand Year Door (remake) 4 - The Thousand Year Door (original) 5 - Super Paper Mario 6 - Color Splash 7 - Paper Jam 8 - Sticker Star
This list is accurate in my opinion. For me personally, Paper Mario 64 will always be my favorite due to the charm and storytelling mixed with adventure and action that is to be had anytime playing the game!
Unpopular opinion: Super is better than 64. Before you get mad, hear me out. TTYD will always be the best in the series. I think, while 64 is more inspired, Super is more fun to play. Plus, it has a great story. I've never really been a big fan of turn based battles in games (mostly because I'm not good at them lol). That's part of why I think Super is a better game. Don't make fun of me, but I am not good at paper mario 64. Imo, the only thing 64 has on Super is the characters.
Super Paper Mario actually feels good to play on emulation in higher fps and not having to hold the awful sideways wii remote. I hated playing it on the Wii
I’m a simple man: Thousand Year door is one of my favorite games ever. I can’t wait for Thursday. I will say.. I think Origami King is a very underrated game. I’m replaying now and it super charming and fun. I prefer the traditional rpg combat and level system, but the turnstile is pretty fun for a one off.

Is it a rare to found because I've never seen Super Paper Mario in nowhere? Here's my ranked every Paper Mario games what I've played: 4: Paper Mario 64 3: Paper Mario Sticker Star 2: Paper Mario Color Splash 1: Paper Mario Origami King Defienitily Origami King is my all time favourite Paper Mario game ever, but I don't know can TTYD never win Origami King. Those 2 Paper Mario games will have a tought race of my favourite Paper Mario game. About of upcoming Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door HD Remake i'm so interested of it's story, characters like the Enemies what we haven't seen any other Mario games than TTYD, Mario's new friends like Goombrella, Vivian and Flurrie and can't wait i'm so excited for playing as Bowser and Princess Peach at the First Time ever in Paper Mario game. It's only 2 days left to the Launch of Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door HD Remake: Here we Go WAHOO! 😆❤️🔥
I generally consider Super Paper Mario and Origami king to be a tie for me. They both deviate from the original formula in different ways while also excelling in certain aspects.
7. Problem 1: The story is a shadow of older games, boiling down to Bowser causing trouble and kidnapping Peach AGAIN, and Mario having to gather royal stickers in order to save the day. Problem 2 (And this is the biggest one): The combat. In this game, stickers are everything. Literally. EVERYTHING. You need to use stickers to unleash your attacks. And once you use one, it disappears from your inventory. Run out? You have to run away. Other RPG staples like exp, leveling up, other party members, and (oh yeah) TARGETING go by the wayside. You can find more stickers by exploring the overworld, and the disposable attacks become ESPECIALLY troublesome against bosses, which are nearly impossible without a specific sticker. Look, there are puzzle bosses, and then there's trial and error. Not something I like in a game of this variety. Especially when said trial and error involves going back to find some random item. Baten Kaitos and various Card-Based video games did the disposable attack concept better!
Sticker Star is my first Paper Mario game I had, and it's really nostalgic to me, so I don't hate any of the games since I played through all of them atleast twice. Though Origami King, and Super Paper Mario is always really hated which is kind of a bummer. I love Origami King, and it feels really nostalgic from the pandemic era.
The recent Paper Mario games are decent, but The Thousand Year Door is definitely the best one by far, considering to me it feels like an improvement based on the first game.
Haven't played color splash or the Wii version yet but I'd say I like sticker stars more than the origami king not a fan of the new battle mechanics. My favorites are the original and ttyd
My ranking 6: paper mario sticker star 5: paper mario 4: paper mario color splash 3: paper mario origami king 2: paper mario thousand year door 1: super paper mario aka super PEAK mario
Paper Mario: N64 Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: GameCube Super Paper Mario: Wii Paper Mario: Sticker Star: 3DS Paper Mario: Color Splash: Wii U Paper Mario: The Origami King: Nintendo Switch
1) SPM - Best story, great soundtrack. 2) TTYD - Great story, great battle system. 3) CS - Visually and audibly amazing 4) TOK - Visually and audibly amazing, maybe slightly too childish though 5) Paper Jam - Weakest M&L but still fun. Paper Mario is OP, final boss slaps. 6) SS - At least it was unique and had some fun moments. 7) PM64 - I'll die on the hill that PM64 is bland. As soon as TTYD came into existence, this one became obsolete. Whereas every other game is relatively unique, this one is just beta-TTYD with a rather forgettable soundtrack, bosses, a dull final area, a mid final boss, partners that just don't compare to the ones in TTYD, and a pretty basic story not that dissimilar to Sticker Star or Color Splash, as well as looking nowhere near as good as the newer games. Being the first isn't an excuse to be mid. Look at Superstar Saga, the first M&L, which is easily a top contender in the M&L franchise. PM64 was the last PM game I played out of the six so I don't have nostalgia telling me it's amazing.
Honestly, I think Paper Jam not only is more of a Mario and Luigi game, but better than Color Splash anyway. That’s my only nitpick with this list. Otherwise, agreed

1: Paper Mario Origami King
Defienitily Origami King is my all time favourite Paper Mario game ever, but I don't know can TTYD never win Origami King.
Sticker Star was fucking amazing
Its Good
You're joking, right?
Paper Mario 64 will always be my favorite. Got that game the year it came out.
I love all the paper Mario games except sticker star
I like all of them but sticker star and paper jam. A fun narrative is the main thing I want in Paper Mario
I adore color splash 😂 though honestly I agree with this list.
My ranking
6: paper mario sticker star
5: paper mario
4: paper mario color splash
3: paper mario origami king
2: paper mario thousand year door
1: super paper mario aka super PEAK mario
It's very thin, it's about paper!! Thin paper 📃📄
They did Color Splash dirty
Ummm you forgot the best game in the series. Bug Fables: The everlasting sapling.
It’s goated but I’d rank it right behind paper 64 and ttyd
Y’all tonight we FEAST!
The first is amazing. I can replay all the time
We all knew that, the basic paper Mario worst to best that is basically identical to all the others
Thousand year door is my third favorite Mario game (next to sunshine and odyssey)
I never got the hang of paper mario at first.
In 2 days I have my hands on the Thousands Year Door remake and I will play the original Paper Mario 64 also very soon on the Switch emulator.
I don't consider Paper Jam as a Paper Mario game but as a Mario & Luigi game due to the title's order
Good list 🎮
Why don´t u guys put the consoles in which they came in?
Paper Mario: N64
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door: GameCube
Super Paper Mario: Wii
Paper Mario: Sticker Star: 3DS
Paper Mario: Color Splash: Wii U
Paper Mario: The Origami King: Nintendo Switch
@@ramarriblevinsjones5709 Thank you very much! You helped a lot.
sticker star best game of all time
Have you played many video games?
Because of the battle system alone I would put Paper Jam over Color Splash
I’d rank these games in the same order tbh!
I don’t consider paper jam a paper Mario game
1) SPM - Best story, great soundtrack.
2) TTYD - Great story, great battle system.
3) CS - Visually and audibly amazing
4) TOK - Visually and audibly amazing, maybe slightly too childish though
5) Paper Jam - Weakest M&L but still fun.
Let’s be honest. I think if anyone didn’t guess this ranking correctly, it’s only because they forgot about the crossover with Mario and Luigi.
Super Paper Mario should def be ahead of the original.
Bought Thousand Year Door remake because I didn’t want to pay $20 for a new memory card for the GameCube
Two words: Color Splash!
Another two words: sticker star!😊
Pretty much the same order I was thinking. I never played Paper Jam though
I’d switch Super and Origami King but no complaints otherwise
