      I used to spray Miracle Grow on my grass years ago, and it also turned lush green. I was thinking that the Miracle Grow granules look like epsom salt with blue dye on it. It probably is .. they just added blue dye and are making money off of epsom salts. I'm gonna skip the blue dye, and just use the salt.

    Just a warning, when i add Epsom salt to my apple tree, it had twice as many apples and i was so happy, until it broke into 3 pieces because of a windy weather. Now i just use it for my nut trees.

      The Epsom salt caused that the tree had twice as many apples as normal, and they were bigger and more heavy. So the apples made like a wall against the wind and could not stand the pressure. It is a 60 years old apple tree and i never see this before i use Epsom salt.

    I have bald spots in my pasture in Texas. I spread 50 pound bags of cattle salt on them. It raises the PH. I have glay soil where it will not grow. The clays PH is too low, or too acidic. If you live in Colorado the glay soil is about a 4.5 Ph where grass don't grow and sage brush does.. The city parks in Colorado just use salt to make the grass grow. Agg Lime will also raise the PH. If you use too much salt it kills the grass or plants, because the PH is too high. Over time rain will wash the salt from the soil, and lower the PH so grass will start growing again if you killed it.

      @@loisvreeland7623 trumpet vine is not a tree stump. Don’t conflate the two. You said drill a hole in the tree stump and pour it in. I assure you, that will not kill it. The interior wood of trees is not living so any effect of epsom has no bearing on it. You would have to bury a couple gallons of epsoms all around the tree stump, into the soil, to have any effect on a tree stump. And even then, you have to prevent rain was soaking the soil to counter the effect of epsoms. Good luck with that.

    Epsom Salt: Magnesium sulfate or magnesium sulphate (in English-speaking countries other than the US) is a chemical compound, a salt with the formula MgSO4, consisting of magnesium cations Mg2+ (20.19% by mass) and sulfate anions.
    . It is a white crystalline solid, soluble in water but not in ethanol.
    Don’t confuse this with sodium chloride.

      If you’re new to gardening, hang in there. Gardening is like any other sport, it takes practice. Unfortunately it is an expensive mistake sometimes so start small. The biggest mistakes people make when new to gardening is:
      1. Are you putting plants in their correct location for their sun/shade requirements?
      2. Are you digging a big enough hole to backfill in good soil and compost so the roots can expand and thrive?
      3. Are you watering enough…or too much? Remember, even if a plant’s description says it’s “drought and heat tolerant “, it still needs good consistent watering the first growing season until it is well established (perennials and trees and shrubs need a solid season of good care until it’s established)
      4, Are you purchasing plants that are correctly “zoned”? Be careful when shopping at big box stores, they often sell expensive, eye catching perennials, trees and shrubs that are not appropriate for the zone you are purchasing from. Often, the zone (cold hardiness) isn’t labelled on the plant but a good google search will tell you, it’s not going to survive the winter. Most quality garden centres and nurseries (that only sell plants) bring in products that are zoned specific to the area you are purchasing from. They aren’t sneaky, or at the very least, they’ll be labeled “not cold hardy” so u don’t expect it to survive the winter outdoors.
      Try not to buy or take on too much when you’re new and just start small. Baby steps are far cheaper when gardening and also not as disappointing if one or two small purchases fail. It’s supposed to be fun! I’m almost 60 and I’ve learned that gardening is like golf: every season is a crap shoot and challenge and yet one successful experiment can be sooo rewarding, you forget all the frustrations the following spring and you’re ready to take on another season like a warrior. …….keep at it and have fun!
      I have zero formal horticulture training and went in blind to this rewarding hobby 30 years ago. After many blunders, dead plants and wasted money, I won 2nd place in my city’s horticulture/landscaping contest (population: 1.5M). It’s really not rocket science, just takes practice, diligence, love and patience. And a good dose of humility lol. Cheers!

      Yes but carefull as the salt can't escape as easily and may make the soil too salty

      god - your gullible. ... these are acttually horrible ideas. ...
      1) Racoons & DEER love salt ... putting salt on your plants will ... ATTRACT ... them to eat your precious plants .
      2) Salt water spray on plants will drip off - if you want it to stick & stay ( add 1 teaspoon / per gallon ) of dish soap, makes it sticky & tastes horrible.

    You CANNOT stop feeding chemical fertilizers just by adding Epsom salt to the soil. That advice is dumb. Epsom salt will help the plant absorb the food you give it with the chemical fertilizers. It's clear this guy has never used Epsom salt before. Typical bad advice from UA-cam University.

      Epsom salt is a mineral salt, not a saline salt (sodium chloride). It has different properties than sodium. Epsom salt does not attract deer; it consists of hydrated magnesium sulfate. Not yummy.

      Excess salt is. That’s why he said 1 cup per 100 sq ft and mixed well in the soil. Do you realize how much land that is? Pretty big area for 1 cup of salt.

    • @doloresreynolds8145
      @doloresreynolds8145 2 роки тому

      If your soil is acidic, you should lime it. Test it after applying the Epsom salts and waiting a few days. I suspect you will still need lime.

    • @andybilakshow260
      @andybilakshow260 2 роки тому

      you have to check your current ph level. Then adjust with lime to bring ph up, or acid to bring ph down. Depending on your plant preference. Strawberries & tomatoes like slightly acidic (6-6.5) I gather 6.5 - 7 to be a happy medium?
