Hey Jon, thanks for the shout-out! Much appreciated! 🙏
CES has been quite exciting. Lots of great brands showing off some cool HomeKit and Matter products. Hopefully next year we can all meet up in Vegas!
Pleasure as always Shane! Just watched your video and it’s outstanding. Top job
Love the detail you have gone into with Aqara. HomeKit news didn’t have half of this
Thank you
Aqara are going to make a killing. Can't wait for the FP2 presence sensor. Already have so many automation ideas!
That FP2 looks unreal mate! I am desperate for it to launch. It will change automations
BTW this is the best coverage so far of CES - you’re sharing info others don’t have. Great stuff and thanks!
Thank you so much
0:11 CES = Consumer Electronics Show
Well…not really. Traditionally, you are right, and we can call the show whatever we want. But legally, they recently changed the name to “CES”. If you look at the CES Media Kit on the CES website, it says “PLEASE NOTE: The official name of the global technology event is ‘CES®.’ Please do not use ‘Consumer Electronics Show’ or "International CES" to refer to the event.” So, the way he said it took the professional approach, following CES media guidelines.
Like some other shows and companies, they decided to make the trademark exclusively about the initialism, not the original words behind it. If you go to the CES home page or About page, and you search for “Consumer Electronics Show”, that phrase is not found. NAB did the same thing, their show is now officially “the NAB Show” not National Association of Broadcasters Show. Yeah, it’s kinda weird, but it is definitely a thing.
One source says the rebrand is because the show had expanded beyond consumer electronics, now including automotive OEM electronics and such.
Very excited! Great video!
What a great video! Very excited about Aqara in general. It’s awesome
Thanks for watching
I have been waiting for an Aqara doorbell! Thrilled!
Can’t wait too!
Amazing video as always
Thanks for watching as always Jason
Great update of CES MATTER. Also great to watch a tech channel that pronounces router correctly.
Thank you! It’s great to hear someone saying that
Good stuff, you should go next year!!
I will and hopefully see you
Loved the video and the products/vendors you opted to review. I often feel like the CES review videos are presented at a frenetic pace for various reasons. Others go far to into the weeds and make it feel like we’re reading the vendor materials in the video. You’ve nailed the middle ground there. I didn’t once look at the time or sections because I was constantly engaged with the review without feeling like we were too deep in the minutia. Well done.
Thank you so much
Can’t wait to get a G4 doorbell. It is the only solution in the world that provides doorbell HSV recording on battery
12:50. Aqara’s chime Supporting 512 micro SD cards …that’s a lot of SD cards 😂
Missed the GB 😂😂
I’m very excited for Yeelight’s pro line up for business! You gotta ask them for details. This changes the entire light game for home and business, the other brands are dead in water.
Got a follow up with them next week
I'm still somewhat confused.... If I get SwitchBot Hub 2 when it comes out, and SwitchBot Blind Tilt... is that enough to bring those blinds into HomeKit? I don't understand why there's a specific list of devices that goes with the Hub 2 announcement.
Switch will support all support categories in HomeKit. But it’s going to be a phased release starting with the curtain controller
Love the new Aqara G4 doorbell camera. Any thoughts as to whether it would run without a hub? I.e just connect to a HomePod mini?
No hub needed
Nice report but I wish there was more going on outside of RGB lighting which is becoming a tired gimmick for most of us.
Is there any clarity whether the E1 USB hub will be getting Matter?
I bought that one in a pinch recently and have another two weeks I can return it… but Matter is the only reason I’d need the bigger, pricier hub.
Yes they will be updating the E1 for Matter
who else got covid at CES 2023? Me and 4 of my co workers did...
I was pretty excited about the new Nanoleaf essentials lights coming out, but then I realized that since it's Matter only and does not have official HomeKit certification, it won't have HomeKit's adaptive lighting. That kinda puts a damper on the products for me because currently, I don't think there's any way to automate in HomeKit using Nanoleaf's own circadian rhythm feature in their app. Guess I might stick with Philips Hue 🤷♂(I wouldn't really care if it was just a desk lamp but I'm going to be installing recessed lights in my ceiling soon and having adaptive lighting is a big feature for me, so learning Nanoleafs recessed lights won't be able to do it natively kinda sucks)
Tbh I have not really used adaptive lighting. But it’s worth letting users know
COMPUTER Electronics Show?
So I guess Nanoleaf Essentials won’t be upgradeable to Matter? They’re on special at the moment and might still be worth it for Thread…
Yes that’s correct
Did anyone introduce a Matter compatible light switch? I thought there would be lots at CES.
Yes, Nanoleaf. It’s in the video
@@HomeKitAuthority But aren't those specific to controlling Nanoleaf? I'm thinking more products like the Eve Light Switch to control existing lighting.
No, they will control other devices in HomeKit
Google and HomeKit need to work together
I always appreciate a shout-out to a fellow UA-camr. I watch Shane too. Each channel brings different ideas and points of view so there is no real competition between channels. You can watch all the good ones, you don't have to choose one over another.
Agreed! A lot of us creators in the space got together at CES too :)
Shane is a top guy and always supportive. We all offer something different and happy to be part of the community
Who would put that big thing on a curtain? 😮
How safe is the FP2 I’m scared it’ll emit harmful waves for humans.
Not sure tbh, assume it will be
Nothing from Philips Hue?
Nothing in my view worth mentioning
@@HomeKitAuthority got you. Seen some things with Samsung🤢 and Sync… but no Matter info from Philips Hue. Bit disappointing
Sounds like nanoleaf is trying to compete with govee’s tv light setup. No thank you I’ll stick with govee
So nothing new on outdoor cameras #meh
So, no news…
I like your content, but that middle grey "Follow Me" banner is really annoying
Feedback received and I will make it better
And I thought matter would make these hubs obsolete… oh well.
Long term maybe yes
stupid home :D as nothing works together without some kind of server like HOMEBRIGE :D maybe matter will do some tricks
It’s starting to lean towards apple… wait until Amazon start charging a subscription for Alexa…
Aqara taking a step backward with subscription video doorbell and using AA batteries.. jeez run it through iCloud and have a lithium battery. It’s not 1980. There is a lack of HomeKit doorbells and if they got it right they’d clean up, keep it local!!!
It is iCloud supported and local storage
@@HomeKitAuthority ha that’s better, still AA batteries….
