You forgot Fort Richmond, South Winnipeg. Car windows smashed every night, break ins, items stolen out of yards, gangs walking around, speeding cars doing 90 down the streets and passing cars in the oncoming lane. I lived here 50 years ago. It was a nice safe area then. Today it is an unsafe hellhole.

Nah, Winnipeg is pretty safe during the day,… do this cruise again at night…. As a mailman who used to deliver Ross/Pacific/Elgin/William (& Isabel) from Sherbrooke to Princess…. 50% of Winnipegs Murders happened on my walk and I never felt unsafe…. Won’t say it wasn’t entertaining as I delivered…. But I never felt my life was at risk…. At night??? Maybe that’s another story….
Just don’t be out late with stupid people at stupid places at stupid times…. ASP ;)

Going over the Salter bridge and passing RB Russel brings back memories from the early 70s, nowhere around there was dangerous as kids (6yro) we walked from Manitoba and Andrews to the movie theaters on Main, never had a problem.

I grew up in the early 70s and there were not that many areas I would call totally off limits. How the city is changed in the years since is....well its unrecognizable.
It's turned into a badly mismanaged crime infested shithole.

@@WinnipegChannel I think they actually planned for bad luck. Winnipeg allowed unrestricted suburban mall building in the 70s that destroyed the downtown retail landscape and then when that became clear they said...'let's build another mall downtown' which was doomed to fail and is now little more than a druggie daycare centre. Meanwhile they paid all the unions way over private sector wages and benefits and let infrastructure go to shite. Then to make ends meet they made the tax rates uncompetitive compared to areas just outside the perimeter and people with money moved out.

@@zanzibarandgrill6484 Very true, and it has a lot to due with the trend of cities mostly consisting of single family detached suburbs and designed for cars as the sole form of transport. It's just too much space and resources required for the least dense form of city planning. A lot of cities in the US and Canada may be going bankrupt because of this.
