Two things are true. Court storming is a player safety concern and they shouldn’t be on the court. But he’s also responsible for his own injury. He tried to trip and shove that fan, so I don’t feel sorry for him. There’s an overhead view that clearly shows it. If he had just tried to avoid contact instead of initiating it, he’d probably be ok.

In your good old days, fans wouldn't have stormed the court for a game like this. And if they did, they would have to wait 10 or 20 seconds depending on the university
It was hard to tell but it looked like if anything that he stepped wrong and his leg buckled, which could’ve happened without contact and it looked like it did before he touched the fan. Wake Forest was FAVORED to win the game and was winning throughout the second half. With several minutes left, you could actually hear the students saying they were going to storm the court on the broadcast. That’s not what storming the court is supposed to be. It’s supposed to be reserved for buzzer beaters and national championships, not favored teams who are already winning. This was classless and dangerous (Edit: I said this out loud with four minutes left, and lo and behold, our star player was injured). In the aerial view they showed on ESPN, you can even see a Wake Forest student going out of his way to push Kyle from behind. At Duke, we are not allowed to storm the court. Where was he supposed to step? There were about 10 fans 3 feet away from him. He has no room to breathe yet it’s his fault for not sprinting off the court in 0.2 seconds?
Overhead video (can be found on UA-cam) shows the situation much better. He lifted up his forearm at very last second in order to try and protect himself, but he just got spun around by fans running at full speed.
I had to find this specific view of the vid with him pushing the fan (the second person that runs past him). I think it's all a sucky situation. "Sure" I'm for don't push/abuse fans, but same protections for the players. Kyle had to be smarter he literally tripped the dude and cost him to sprain his ankle. The fans should have to wait. But Duke should’ve already had him ready to get out of there. They knew they was going to storm game was over.

No fan touched him, he injured himself while pushing a fan. He should be charged with assault
Kyle "Flopowski" took a page out of Caitlin's playbook... I don't agree with storming the field but the poor sportsmanship of those that want to flop and claim injury when they are the ones that shoved a fan and caused their own issues is out of line in my opinion.
as if he didnt have a herd of people sprinting straight at him before the game was even finished and he was able to get off the court. poor sportsmanship was from wake forest fans.

Video footage from above that was angled toward the court shows filipowski shove the fan as he runs by. While shoving, he stuck his leg out and got hit by the fan. Now filipowski’s ego is shattered and he’s trying to make a big deal over it.
@UA-camUserFR. that's what I saw, too. Well said. He was pissed and tried to stick his leg out . All he had to do is steamroller everyone . I was searching for your comment after seeing the overhead. Brilliant. A court storming leading to a completely avoidable injury for a college kid. Court storming a should result in forfeit.

You’re either hung up on how six security guards can control a mob….(and I’m suggesting a shift to a sensible element of the mob controlling the idiot element of the mob) or your hung up on how you prove or enforce punishment. My suggestion is simply to put the onus on the institution to manage and turn up the pain level for non compliance. For example: students of the university who storm the courts are expelled from the school and forced to pay restitution for damages. Non students would face trespassing charges and pay a fine. The school would record the loss. Repeated violations would result in charter restrictions, tournament banning or forfeiture of playing NCAA games. This will only get worse if its not dealt with. Idiots don’t change when they see they light…they change when they feel the heat. Sensible people don’t act this way…uncultured animals do. So…turn up the pain and the animals will cohere. In your good old days, fans wouldn't have stormed the court for a game like this. And if they did, they would have to wait 10 or 20 seconds depending on the university
really, Filipowski hit the fan running across the court. It's obvious. I don't know how he got hurt doing that but he took the fan out.
It was hard to tell but it looked like if anything that he stepped wrong and his leg buckled, which could’ve happened without contact and it looked like it did before he touched the fan. Heck we just saw in the Super Bowl a similar situation with Dre Greenlaw as he was going to get ready on defense for the 49ers and one bad step wound up leading to his Achilles tear.
It looks like he drills a student via shove
Anyone else notice the double forearms Filiflop threw before he was "hurt"?
You mean when he had several hundred people running right at him?
Yep he hit the fan and they fell.
Fr no one is talking about that
Watch the aerial view they are showing on ESPN right now and your description is not what happened.
Who gives a shit, he has the right to be on the court and a mob is running at him. I would defend myself in that situation too.
In my four years, we did it once - when Sean Dockery hit that crazy buzzer beater against Virginia Tech. Coach K later said he wanted to storm the court too, but we aren’t allowed to do it and shouldn’t anymore. And we don’t.
That’s still one of the best buzzer beaters I’ve ever seen. Still fresh in my memory all these years later.

I think it's all a sucky situation. "Sure" I'm for don't push/abuse fans, but same protections for the players. The NCAA Needs To Ban This Once and For All in My Opinion Cause The Players Are Gonna Get Hurt by The Students and It’s Both Ridiculous and Dangerous!
Watch the video. The Wake fan looks at Filopowski and says something to him (probably derogatory). Filopowski trips the Wake fan who winds up on the court. If the jerk injured himself while retaliating to a verbal insult by an idiot, well, too bad. Wimpy, wussy, whiny Duke player. Who would have thought?! However, Wake security was horrible at funneling the fans away from the benches. Ridiculous and preventable on all accounts!
Flip actually trips the first person then shoves a second, & when somebody checks him on it he " gets hurt"...karma?
