Buy specific winter cycling boots for winter and then still put overshoes over them. This is the best solution I’ve found to stay dryer and warmer. Went two sizes up on the boots too, to allow slightly thinker merino socks but still allowing foot and toe movement to allow effective circulation

Excellent tips! Where do you ride those are some serious accommodations for cold riding.

I love my Velotoze. I don't find them fragile at all, and they are superbly waterproof. The only downside is that they smell absolutely awful.

Will be interesting to hear from you about the experience with these - should you ride in rain again any time soon. ;-) I´ve heard that these do protect well but tend to break easily. You need to be really careful not to scratch the tip of the shoe on the ground, as they will probably rip apart in a short amount of time. I had that problem on all of my covers / overshoes that do not have some kind of protective rubber in that area.
It´s kinda hard to find a good overshoe that is easy to fit, is tight and delivers good protection. I personally use toe covers on longer tours until the temp goes down to 8-10°C which is when I start to switch over to a pair of GripGrab "Flandrien" oversock/shoe things, which also repell some water. (but they also get soaked if it rains for too long)

The pair I got might have been defective, but they had so much extra material around the ankle it looked comical.

I am a huge fan of Velotoze. I am not a bad weather rider but if I have to ride in the wet I will always go for them. However, there are a lot of stories on the internet of people ripping them apart. This probably happens because the overshoes were not stored correctly. The Latex tends to stick to itself and to your shoe when you try to put it on. Because of that I store them in a bag with talcum powder or baby powder. Just the same with my latex tubes.

Thank You for adding how you care for them long term. Yes I consider testing them like Latex Tubes.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad I may have to warn you. The powder will leave a little mess on your shoes so be sure to remove as much of it before putting the Velotoze on.

I rushed out a bought an original pair and they’re still there in their bag. I believe they’re actually on their 3rd gen even though the one you got is called the 2.0. I heard they're super delicate so I've be saving them for some big event. Actually until I saw this video I forgot all about them. For everyday commutes in the rain, I wore regular booties with thin veggie bags underneath. Did the trick for one days commute. I did have riding pants, not tights, so the pant leg went over my booties so no water ran inside.
I'll be really curious to see how durable your Velotoze are.

Hello Ric - I first heard of these years ago. It appears they have expanded their product range rather than 3rd gen. They have a silicone bootie and a latex bootie. Maybe that is what you might be referring to. I have the latex bootie. They seem much more durable than I expected. As I mentioned in the unboxing they were much heavier than I expected.
I wore them yesterday on my 150 mile (243 km) training ride. I will probably wear them a few more times before 2/11 300 km. They’re inexpensive anyway at $20 it’s rare in the cycling industry to have inexpensive gear isn’t it?
