I want to say a big "thank you" for this video... in time of quarantine for Coronavirus, your video is one of the best way to learn something new. Stay safe! Ciao from Turin, Italy
Armando, I am so happy that you found this useful! Check out the other solo practice videos, hopefully there is enough to see you through. Take care, my prayers are with you are the people of Italy!
No problem, glad I could help. I have done some other videos as well for solo weapons practise and they may also be useful. Just check out the playlist section on my channel. :)
Thank you for these videos, your Jo looks a bit thicker in diameter than the ones I often see, is this just for training? Or do you prefer the thicker staff for any practical reason? Thanks!
My pleasure you are welcome! Yes you are right. It is a bit thicker than normal. Its 3cm thick. Most standard ones are 2.5cm. There are a couple of reasons for using this thickness. 1. It provides additional weight, meaning you have to work a bit harder to ensure everything is correct. Similar reason to why you may use an Iwama bokken rather than a regular one. This will also mean if you then use anything lighter you can handle it much easier. 2. Secondly, it can withstand more impact. We do a lot of kumijo and have broken a number of regular Jos. Even if they are high quality they can still break or warp very easily. Some martial arts suppliers do provide thicker Jos. Or alternatively you could cut down a Bo.
I've been watching you from Turkey. The best video on youtube is yours. slow and very beautiful. thank you so much
Kaan, many thanks! Thats very nice of you to say, I am glad you enjoy my videos!
