  • The purpose of Data Interpretation questions is right there in the name. These questions require you, the test taker, to interpret data presented in various formats - specifically tables, graphs, and other visual presentations.
    There are 3 Data Interpretation questions in each Quant section on the test. Since there are two scored Quant sections on any given exam, this gives 6 scored Data Interpretation questions on the exam. Out of 40 questions, that's not an insignificant number - about 15% of all Quant questions! This means that mastering our Data Interpretation strategy is critical to your GRE score.
    All three questions in one section are presented together, as they all go with one set of data- this set of data may include multiple tables, graphs, diagrams, etc. We can think of these a lot like multi-question Reading Comprehension passages - a bunch of info given to us up top that is used to answer a series of questions. Now, like we are on Reading Comprehension, we're always going to be told which questions will be based on the data presented in the question.
    The questions in Data Interpretation sets can come in multiple types - they can be multiple choice (select one), multiple choice (select one or more), or numeric entry. The one thing they cannot be is quantitative comparison.
    Now, how can we approach these question sets for the highest likelihood of success?

    For data interpretation, read the questions first. Know what you want to look for in the data. Without that , you are shooting yourself on the foot!

    As we have given the %table, R has 50% i.e 20, and T has 90% i.e 45
    Now use formula for % decrease i.e change/original
    45-20/45*100
    25/45*100 =55.56~~56%

    Store R sold 20 TV sets (50% of 40), while store T sold 45 TV sets (90% of 50). Therefore store R sold 25 TV sets fewer than store T. Expressed as a percentage of the number of TV sets sold by store T, 25 is 56% of 45 and so the correct answer is 56%, or option b)

    56% (a round-up from 55.55...%) is the correct answer. Note that it asks for how much LESS than T, not how much more than R. 125% would be correct if the question were how much more TV's were sold by store T than store R.

    Since we have two numbers here, 45 (90% of tv for store T) and 20 (50% of tv for store R) , now since 20 is lower that means R is some percent lower than T so (45-20)/45 = 56% will be the percentage decrease for R with respect to T , while (45-20)/20=125% will be the percentage increase for T with respect to R. Hope that helps :)

    It's a percentage change question, so 18=(40*.45) of R and 45=(50*.90) of T are the numbers to be considered.
    (45-18/45)*100 = 60% i.e close to option B.
    ***We consider 45 as denominator because they have asked w.r.t. television sets of T.
    hope this helps.

      Calculation is correct just that i think tv sold by R is 50% rather than 45% from the graph

    (“the decrease” / original #) x 100
    = the % decrease

    I only looked at the bar graph and wrote down R= 50% and T= 90%. Then I tried to find the difference in percentage of 50 and 90. I did this quickly by adding 10 to each number so the 90 turns into 100 and the 50 turns into 60 making it an easy ~60% . So option B becomes the closest answer. I’m not sure if this is correct though. Where to I find the answer?

    I think a simple way to calculate this is as follows:
    72 x 119.95 = 8636.4
    8636.4 x 1.07 = $ 9240 in total revenue

    At 20:45, i considered everything but made the stupid mistake of 8.39(sales tax) + $119.95x(.8×90)= 8644 or something which i then "approximated" as answer choice A. Ouch!

    Why 7% sales tax is taken as 107/100 and not 7/100??

    • @prahladsaldanha568
      @prahladsaldanha568 4 роки тому +4

      I think you can do it in two ways. You wanna know what the cost will be including tax. You can find what seven percent of the cost of the product is to know what the tax is alone and then add the price of the product to it (which is simply one hundred percent of the price of product). You eliminate the step where you add by directly calculating what 107% of the price of product is. Let me know if I'm wrong, though.

    125% is that correct ?

    • @johnhena7829
      @johnhena7829 4 роки тому +1

      The right answer is 56%
      Solution:
      # R = 40 * (50/100) = 20
      # T = 50 (90/100) = 45
      Now, T - R = 45-20 = 25
      Let Z = % R < # T
      25 = Z/100 (45)
      Z = 2500/45 = 55.55% = 56%
