When I received my exam details in "GRE Diagnostic Service" I saw that I missed one question in quant (difficulty level 5). Still got a perfect 170. So there's room for error in quantitative section too.

Umm you can't ignore the essay section, even if it's scores aren't included in the 340. Most universities will not accept a candidate with an essay score south of 4. The essay score is just a different part of the GRE.
Ignoring the essay portion is irresponsible at best. If you're taking the GRE, it's likely you're in a field that involves a lot of research/writing. Every humanities major, social science, etc. There are grad programs that require a 5.5 at least. ETS posts every possible prompt on their website. It's wise to practice outlining/writing at least 10 or 15 of these prompts if you want to kill that portion of the exam.
I just love you! Thank you so much for your detailed advice. Regretting the time I spent looking at other videos from other people before coming across this video of yours.
i think some of these comments (or a lot of them) aren't thinking about the fact that getting an almost perfect score also means that either through practice or even before practice, you are extremely academically capable, which means if you know how to comprehend accurately to difficult materials, you must know how to write adequately as well. If you know how to reason logically, even through the quant proportion, it means you know how to reason in a different way in essays too. If you are short of any of these qualities you are not the person getting an almost perfect score. What I get from this video is that it doesn't matter how beautiful your language is in a literature way, it matters as long as you get the logical thinking with complexity right, and you know basic but professional ways to express that. What else do you wanna hear about "how to get a perfect score"? "By magic"?!!! "By talking yourself into I'm so smart so studying 5min a day does the job"?!!! The problem is that how we can analyze our reading comprehension mistakes, because for example I worked on RC240 and there is no available source which utterly analyzed the answers.
Dude, how did you get a 162 in verbal? I can reach 167-168 in quant but I can't cross 155 in verbal. I need those extra marks to boost my score. Well, I have done everything a normal student does to prepare for the verbal section. How do I push it to the next level?
Alpesh Patil you should try to get hard difficulty on the second verbal, which means you can get at most 3 questions wrong on the first verbal section. If your second verbal's difficulty is hard, your score starts from 158 (over the 155 you want). If your second section isn’t hard difficulty, the most you can get is 157. My strategy for verbal is to always mark and skip the time consuming questions and comeback later, my mind sometimes subconsciously run these questions when I’m doing the others. Additionally I think I read somewhere that gre also gives individual questions difficulties, and the higher the difficulty, the fewer point it is worth. I don’t know if it is true, but I am pretty sure got quite a couple (~8) really hard questions wrong and I didn’t get too much punishment for doing so. Nonetheless I’ve only taken the test once, take that with a grain of salt.

hey, I'm no expert but I can tell you how I'm studying for my GRE next month. I recommend getting Princeton's Cracking the GRE, it is one of the best for cracking the verbal section of the test. Some don't recommend it for the maths section but I'm studying it for all sections anyways. Then I'm going to spend around 15 days solving practice tests from the book, online and most importantly example tests provided by ETS! This is very important because these practice tests (from ETS) contain questions that were previously given on GRE tests that no one else is licensed to provide; this way you'd be able to see the exact format and content of GRE questions. I should mention that while I'm completely fluent, English is my third language so I'm telling you my process as a non-native english speaker. Best of luck, and I'd be very thankful if you would offer any piece of advice you've come across while researching the best ways to study for the test.
Siddhesh Thakre sir, I would suggest you first to work on your academic english for about 3-4 months with a good tutor. At the same time start learning gre math. After 4 months of english, you will become much better at verbal, and can start gre verbal, which is quite challenging. Overall it should take about 6-7 months for you to achieve a 320+ score if you study intensively

I recommend that anyone who is interested take a look at the ETS guidelines for writing GRE passages. You'll quickly understand why this is a ridiculous test.

In the future you should work on instilling confidence in the people who are viewing your video. I watched 5 minutes of this and started to feel more anxious about my test on Monday.
What’s the point of having the experimental section on the gre? If it’s not gonna get scored, then what’s the use of it? Why should the test makers keep it unnecessarily stressing test takers?
Why concern yourself with perfection? As long as your score is high enough to get you into the school you want, improvement is probably useless. Most graduate programs don't offer many academic scholarships anyways.
work experience counts make sure your reference letters are superb and related to the field you apply to, also try retaking some of those courses again, for example if you had a C in organic chemistry it be a good idea to take it again and show you can get a B this time around. Also if GPA is low then the standardize test becomes more important, but im not sure what impact a great GRE score has to admission vs say acing the MCAT, if you ace the MCAT you telling the school im smart but was lazy in college give me a shot I have matured
You shouldn't say that the essay portion doesn't count. It is scored and if you're applying for programs that require writing/research skills its super important. This video is very misleading.
Why are Ivy League schools dropping the GRE? Is it a trend? I just started college; could it be when I'm ready to graduate in 2022 the GRE may be obsolete?
@@smilinjoe23 time is money. Majority of applicants take gre in the same year of their application. Important parts of an application are -shortlisting, cv, lor, sop and gre in that order. Spending two or three weeks more to get 10 extra marks in gre can be better utilized by focusing on the other more influential parts which would definitely set you up to win.
How to get a better score!? I am extremely bad at math! And first attempt I got 298 I can’t dare to attempt the exam again because it’s too much pressure
universities know the GRE si a shit test, if your rest of the profile fits their programs you will get in, just don't get a very low score, if you aim average, you be fine, schools that focus more on the GRE tend to be poor graduate school programs anyway. unfortunately you will have to study for it and its a very very very boring test to study I rather study for the MCAT atleast that has science in it lol
Ok ok I get it, but I had a hard time on vocabularies and it's still a pain for me. I have a vocab book that contains the most frequent 3000 words appear in the GRE and I have been spending one year on it. I still can only remember 20% of them. Imagine a 2 blank's text completion question has 5 blanks for me. Not to mention the sophisticated grammar used in readings. What a nightmare
My last Gre exam shows that quant sections is sorta forgiving; I missed the last question of the first quant section yet still got a 170 score; And the second last time I missed 3 in the first quant section and got a 166. So I guess 1 miss is forgivable, and beyond 1 you will lose approx. 2 marks for each mistakes; While for verb sections, I have no accurate opinion because I still struggling around 150 up and down cuz my vocabulary is terrible :
There's no way anyone can get a perfect on the Verbal. Too many ridiculous words to memorize and too little time for the passages. I've never scored anything above a 148 on Verbal no matter how well I studied and how well I tried to take the test.
You just need to be gifted with words and language. Unfortunately I think the same kind of thing exists with the quantitative section, in that there is little hope to get above a 160 on it unless you're naturally gifted in math AND studied math in undergrad for like 4 years.
@DildoSnuggie That's not true. The test doesn't even go as far as even the most basic of Calculus, which is the highest form of HS math. HS math is master-able. It's just this weird quasi-skill of test taking. For example, you gotta know how to approach every type of problem correctly, so as to minimize time. I find it annoying because I feel it doesn't accurately assess the true mathematical ability that someone has (or should be assessed by).
@@lraoux I totally agree. The GRE does not test pure mathematical skill. It tests your knowledge of how to take the GRE. And furthermore this knowledge is often best acquirable through purchasing ETS study materials. The whole thing is a quasi-scam. However, I don't think being very gifted in math hurts either. It can help you solve the problems faster.
@DildoSnuggie Standardized testing can never give a truly accurate measure of a student's potential, ability and/or extent of knowledge; but it can give a blurry indicator. To say that knowing how a student can perform on the GRE is the best knowledge on how to calibrate him/her is like saying the Miami Dolphins are winning the Superbowl next year.
148?! Your language skills are just bad... the non-passage questions can each be answered in under a minute, leaving enough time for the passage questions
Damn, 60% of comments bashing her. As for me, I believe myself to be a strong minded person, I think Erica did wonderful in informing us how the test is laid out and how we can improve. I appreciate it :)
This just stressed me out more... "have no gaps in your knowledge of the content" yikes that's a problem when you haven't taken math since high school.
I'm in a similar boat. I've taken some math, but not much since HS. Although once I started going back through and practicing, I was surprised and how much stuff I actually did remember/came back into my head once I started trying some problems.
Wow, I wish I watched this before I took my GRE (5 years ago...). Still scored almost perfect on the Math, but I'm a failure for missing a few #asian :(

My opinion is that GRE is easier than GMAT, but if you're applying to a business school that accepts GRE, they'll normalize your GRE score to compare it to everyone who is applying with GMAT score so it shouldn't matter all that much. There are two reasons I think GMAT was harder. First was the quantitative section of GMAT requires more logical reasoning, especially with the data sufficiency questions. If you have a STEM background, I'd double down on my statement that GRE quant section is way easier than GMAT just due to the type of routine calculations you need to do and how familiar it will feel. The other reason I think the GMAT was harder was that there exist a few published conversion tables for GRE to GMAT and my GRE (167 Q, 163 V) translated to a higher score (730-740 depending on which chart you look at) than what I actually got on the GMAT (a 720 ... and I'd say I had a pretty good test day for both of them). One caveat to this response is that I didn't study much for either test (about 10 days for each with a Barron's book and exams were separated by about a month). If you're going all out studying for a long time, I have no clue which one is easier to improve your score on with equivalent time investment.
Overall helpful video, but like another commenter said, it’s somewhat anxiety-producing and I left feeling deflated due to the tone and language 😐. Wish it was a bit more inspiring/uplifting with a “can-do” attitude. Will likely not be watching the other videos in this series due to this.

Exactly, you pay to take a test that is stressing and then you are a guinea pig for their research or whatever
Why concern yourself with perfection? As long as your score is high enough to get you into the school you want, improvement is probably useless. Most graduate programs don't offer many academic scholarships anyways.
I have a really low gpa in my undergraduate I’m so worried. Is there any chance to apply if I work hard on other elements?
work experience counts make sure your reference letters are superb and related to the field you apply to, also try retaking some of those courses again, for example if you had a C in organic chemistry it be a good idea to take it again and show you can get a B this time around.
Getting 170Q is way way way easier than 170V.
Just study Algebra 1 and the dictionary
All general and vague. nothing concrete and specific
Agreed! Not useful at all.
Nonsense - her study strategy alone is a gold mine
The study strategy is good
Will a perfect score get you the closest seat to the professor in class, with an apple exemption?🤔😂
Why are Ivy League schools dropping the GRE? Is it a trend? I just started college; could it be when I'm ready to graduate in 2022 the GRE may be obsolete?
Why to score 339? I got 330 which still was more than sufficient. It's really not worth the extra effort. Any score beyond 315 is competitive.
I have horrible acads in undergrad, so i think i may need a higher score lol.
whats wrong with being competitive? anything worth the extra effort unless someone prefer to lose
And first attempt I got 298
I can’t dare to attempt the exam again because it’s too much pressure
@@shrivatsankchari1729 Sorry, whats lor and sop?
Some points are obvious but mostly we forget to use. Excellent video
universities know the GRE si a shit test, if your rest of the profile fits their programs you will get in, just don't get a very low score, if you aim average, you be fine, schools that focus more on the GRE tend to be poor graduate school programs anyway. unfortunately you will have to study for it and its a very very very boring test to study I rather study for the MCAT atleast that has science in it lol
She's reading off the screen. How could she do that? Impressive.
How much did you score? And how the things went for you now compared to 2 years ago? Do you mind sharing it?
.....

I'm scared...
Stephen Warren All we can do is try.
I got V130 Q157. I have no idea how to do reading and fill in the blank. Vocabularies are ridiculous.
Howard Cao
Wow that's sad
what is AWA?
The essay section.
aiming for 340 cant afford loosing 1 mark
How did it go?
Might be tough when you can't spell lose.
Social Biosphere 😂😂😂 Fuck outta here 😂
@@samvan8427 LMAO
Thanks a lot for the video, it was really enlightening :)
She is advising not to stress but she is full of stress. Nothing important from her.
Well you are the major distraction 🙏
Can it be done in 45 days?
so... does the essay section not count or something?
Good thing I read some of these comments. I was under the impression that I could leave the essay portion blank.
what is the score that let us to pass the GRE exam?
I love you, Erika! You are beautiful!!
From where I can get free practice test ?
Damn, 60% of comments bashing her. As for me, I believe myself to be a strong minded person, I think Erica did wonderful in informing us how the test is laid out and how we can improve. I appreciate it :)
Hi. Please volume up, because I couldn't hear well. Besides ad volume as same or similar volume. And I will keep watching for what is GRE does.
I believe a better analysis of where you went wrong will be going through the diagnostic score report. Can you do a video on that?
Can you do a video on how you managed to keep your V card your entire life?
Hmmm??? Did i miss the part where you show proof or your score or is that part in a different video? Hope you are not clickbaiting!
Great, thanks👍
This test is moronic. It has no correlation with actual research potential.
Found the 300
Are you a university/college head? Lmao
Really? LOL
This comments are absolutely perfect 😂😂😂
How to get 169 in Q, easy, write one answer wrong.
Why 1 mark did you miss?
Very beautiful 😄😄😄👍👍👍
You could do better than 339.
I am really nervous thinking about gre and my preparations going on.....this type of videos makes my arm itchy......I am in great turmoil!
scam
thank you
Wow, I wish I watched this before I took my GRE (5 years ago...). Still scored almost perfect on the Math, but I'm a failure for missing a few #asian :(
I passed all GRE exans i had 325 points thanks to Mr Clark who helped me with tutoring. He has good tips and questions for everyone willing to join his group.I was recommended to him by a friend even though it took me time to trust in him but at the end I was happy for the good work.I want to take this opportunity to tell you all to join him in his tutoring and trust him despite the process
What does GRE stand for?
Graduate Record Exam
Thank you for this!

This girl is just reading what is reading on her screen......i highly doubt she scored 339...
is GRE easier than GMAT?
Will likely not be watching the other videos in this series due to this.
so my question is what is this girl doing with her life now? genuinely curious.
Lol
Beauty with brain 💝💝💝💝💝
HEY, she's mine! I'm going to pillage that ass like I'm ALEXANDER THE GREAT! And Just like good ol' Alex, I'm gonna rename it after myself!
No, she's not yours, Tampa.
Terrible video, most schools care about the writing score.
wrong
Most grad schools don't care, if you get a 4 that is sufficient
4 is a really high score lol
