Zero waste mouvement became just another consumerism trend. People started buying bamboo spoons when they already had metal spoons at home that will last a lifetime.
One thing I will always remember were discussions on Zero Waste groups. Things like people driving their cars for kilometers to some specific shops instead of buying at their local supermarket, because the market used to much plastic package or things like that. Exactly the thing you started with: thinking that there is no waste if you don't put it in your own personal trash.
Nothing sustainable is as easy as just buying something. This is an unrelated topic, but a while back I wanted solid wood furniture, eventually I reached the conclusion that I have to learn hand tool woodworking to get what I wanted, let's just say it was not easy. It took months of learning, acquiring tools and lots of practice.
There's no individual solution to pollution, only political. And they pander but refuse to act. Plastic is the biggest problem, nobody talks about it anymore.
i think it’s so ironic that the zero waste movement was popularized with Lauren Singer and the mason jar and she turned out to be one of the most fake environmentalists ever lol

So true! And there was pressure to do that even though it probably ended up causing more waste / emissions.

Well done on DIY furniture - that is not for the faint hearted!

People are talking about it, they just aren't doing anything about it.
This video must be for people that don’t understand nuance, because I just kept saying duh every time he stated something
All I could think about as I watched this is my constant struggle to not buy more art supplies
🤣 we all have our vices!
Yes sir!
