Thank you for posting! Now I can appreciate what all it takes to smooth out a problem like this on my Equinox...no wonder they're not so keen to work on it! Yikes! Great job!
I have a 2006 chevy equinox and this video really helped me with some questions I had. My only thought is that they talk a little bit more about the push rods and installation of them. other than that great video.
4.4.24. The Exhaust push rods are longer than the intake pushrods so don’t mix them up⚠️ also for $22 or so pick up the Lisle 48300 rocker arm, lifting tool. If you don’t use the tool, then you should turn the crankshaft to make sure before you unbolt the rocker arms for each cylinder, that the exhaust and intake valves on the cylinder you’re working on, are on their seats, that way you don’t risk stripping out the rocker arm bolt threads in the aluminum head⚠️ UA-cam is replete with videos of people stripping out those threads, and then the engine is knocking afterwards‼️
Getting ready to do a compression test on my gf’s. Overheating and changed thermostat and water pump and have heat cycled and burped it 6 times and still bubbles in reservoir and misfire on cyl 1. I see AllData calls for 10hrs. How long did it take you? How many times did you change oil and burp system. Thanks for the great video!
That all sounds like a head gasket problem to me. It took me about 8 hours to 10 hours. Keep it clean blow off the parts before removing them, and clean them your parts during reassembly. Start the car on the original oil let run for twenty minutes and change the oil and filter. On burping the system! If your car has a bleeder plug loosen it and fill it with the full out. Once coolant comes out replace the plug and top it off. If there is no bleeder. Take the top coolant hose off and fill it until it comes out. Then replace the hose and fill the rest. Once it heat cycles. Check the level again.
I want to take the engine out, to do this and timing chain while I’m at it. Is it really hard that no1 wants to do it. Or why is there no videos on the whole engine coming out
So I have on of these but the problem is, we think the coolant is from the intake. 3:16 that area looks like there was a lot of liquid(Coolent) So we dont think it needs a gasket replacement. But the white smoke is really bad. Any idea?
Do you have to remove or loosen the rocker arms to get to the head gasket? Can you just use the push rod removal tool? In the middle of doing this myself while following this guide.
Hey eddie what was the problem with the equinox? Have the same took it to mechanic they want to teardown the engine to fix it. My engine overheats and drops lots of water after 15minutes of driving. but before that there's not leaks everything works good. Any idea?
@@eddieaustinbex I am in Africa I have Chevy Equinox 2006. The heads were blown and since the spares are unavailable in Cameroon I resorted to grinding them and bought a new gasket and water pump. I bought my 08 Equinox last year for 5k. I’ve spent 5k in repairs, New Wires Spark plugs, New water Pump etc. now I have a bad heater core and my head gasket is going out. It drinks a Full Jug of coolant a day and I can’t run ac unless have goes up and over heats if sitting in traffic for like 10min. Do I get rid of it?
@@eddieaustinbexI got a thermostat installed for $400 and it helped a little but they told me it’s the head gasket. No sense in replacing it because it’s already messed with the engine. It over heated on the highway today 2x🤦🏾♂️ I’m thinking about getting a Infiniti or Acura

Those cooling ports are probably why the head gaskets went bad
Good video
Thank you
I did the same thing with the swapped spark plug wires after I replaced my head gasket on my '06 Equinox.
Easy thing to do
Great vid, thanks! I’m down to head removal and this helps!
You are welcome. Awesome let me know how it goes

That’s sounds like head gaskets or a cracked head

You have to remove the rockers

99% sure its just a head gasket has all the same symptoms as this one did
Thanks for answering i will take it to a different mechanic cuz my regular mechanic wants to change the engine without checking from the inside.
@@forsen6581 your welcome. That's very common unfortunately in there eyes its the easy button to hit

@@eddieaustinbex I did exactly what you said and it came loose. Thanks so much really big help!!
Never mentioned rocker arm torque need to no for a 2007 3400
Should be 32ft pounds
Question. If the heads were somewhat eggshaped, can one still use that same head as long as it's cleaned up? Or does the eggshape need to be repaired?
The head gasket was egg shaped. That was the result of a blown head gasket. You’ll just replace them with new
